Small Rewrites: Seeds of the Future/Ghastly
These are things I made after playing The Wind Waker too many times!
Enjoy my unoriginality! This may happen for a while. :P
He had done it.
The Hero had defeated the king of shadows.
Ganon crumpled to his knees, the Master Sword stabbing through his forehead and breaking through skull. He stared at nothing. Stone formed around his feet and before anyone knew else, he began to set in. He drew in one last breath as life began fleeing from him.
But before he fully expired, he let out a faint wheeze, whispering, "the wind is blowing..." then his deadpan stare hardened into rock.
Ganon became nothing more than a giant chunk of grey stone. The Master Sword remained at the top, the blade's glow dimming until it was nothing more than a dull weapon once again.
Saltwater began to gush from the surface of the ocean and down to the ocean floor of Hyrule Castle, pooling around the feet of the princess and young boy known as the Hero of the Wind, who stood and watched.
Fatigued and nearly beaten to a pulp, the Hero felt a heavy weariness wash upon him like the waves of the great sea. The nearly unbeatable fight against Ganon seemed to sap the last of his energy right out of him. A strange numbness took over his body as the ground threatened to pull him in. The princess immediately took notice and rushed over to support him.
Both of them struggled to stay conscious. But now that Hyrule and the land above the ocean have been saved, they could finally stop and breathe for once. Soon, everyone involved in this big quest may go home and forget this series of events as if it were but a nightmare.
A tall figure stood before the two. A figure wearing a red cloak, a silver beard, and golden crown. An old king, ruler of these grounds under the ocean. "Young children..." he spoke, catching their attention.
"...I have lived my life regretting the past," the king began. He glanced at the statue of the dead villain. "You could say, I was essentially the same as Ganondorf. I made many regrets I wish I never had. I dwelled on it for longer than one should."
The Hero had managed to stand again. He struggled to his feet, feeling as if a pair of iron boots had been planted on his back, and he had to fight against the heavy weight of exhaustion.
"Even as I watch the world above the ocean, look at the many islands that have managed to rise from the surface and thrive, my thoughts often drift back to my kingdom of old." The king closed his eyes and sighed. "If only I could go back in time and try again, to fix my mistakes..." he opened his eyes again and looked down at the children. "But you two..."
The king paused. In the eyes of the boy, he could almost see the exact same courage the Hero of Time once posessed, along with the unquenchable thirst for adventure beyond what he has ever seen. This kid proved to be a descendant of the legendary hero. In the eyes of the princess, he saw a strange boldness, and a temper saltier than the ocean. She would likely return to living as a pirate and sailing beyond the great sea, traveling far away to unknown lands. While they had fulfilled their destinies, they were still far too young to end their stories right at this moment. They still had plenty of time to live in this world. They would certainly have the time to do many great things.
"...I want you two to live for the future." His Magesty finally said. "Leave the world underwater, go beyond the edges of this ocean, discover new lands, build communities and kingdoms that live on through many ages!"
He bowed his head. "...and leave me and this ancient field to remain forgotten for the rest of time."
Everyone was silent. The water rose to ankle-level, and it went fsster the higher it got.
"W-wait..." the princess started. "There will be nothing left of this place now..." she fumbled for the right words.
"...You could come with us!" She said, "we can build another Hyrule! I have a ship somewhere. We can go find it and search for new land for the next kingdom!"
The king shook his head, but he couldn't help but give the children a weak grin. "Ah, but it shall not be another Hyrule you will build," he chuckled.
By now the ocean began to crawl up to everyone's knees. The king knew they would return to the world above the ocean and travel far. Very far. And he would remain here.
He smiled. "You will build your own kingdom!"
That was when the flood came pouring down on them. The Hero and princess gathered as much breath as they could to swim back up to the surface of the water. The Hero hesitated, casting one last sorrowful glance at the castle, before drifting higher and higher, until he disappeared.
The king stood and watched, rooted to his castle, as they washed up and away. Despite this strong feeling of deep sadness, he didn't drop his smile. He knew he would never see them again. But now was the time to put the past aside and clear the way to the light ahead of the dark tunnel of the past.
His Magesty began to slowly fade into nothing. He would become nothing more than a lost memory, once again. A fallen leaf in a forgotten pool.
But while all good things do come to an end eventually, it is never too late for a new story to begin.
"I have done it..." the king spoke one last time.
"...I have helped plant the seeds of the future."
Aaaand here's the other one I made after that!
Oh heck it's almost October. Well, it's a little bit early but HEY ALMOST IN TIME TO GET SPOOPY!
The sky was dark and the stars glittered a faint light. The moon only revealed half of itself.
There was no hurry to hoist the sail and travel across the great sea and back.
Riddles are just fun.
"What kind of bank has marble walls, no doors, and a haul of treasure?"
"...a Cucco egg." The talking boat answered.
"What's a Cucco?" Asks Link, leaning over the boat's edge in search of underwater treasure.
"A Cucco is a small, fluffy, almost flightless bird with a frill of red feathers on its head." The King of Red Lions says. "It was a common farm animal and pet among those who lived in Hyrule. Whenever it got scared or provoked, it howled like a rooster."
"Huh... you mean something like this?" Link tried to imitate the extinct bird. "SCREEK! SQUAK!"
"...something similar." His Majesty guessed.
Link tried another riddle. "I watch the world without eyes. I cannot speak. In the day, I linger behind everything, everywhere. At night, I am nowhere to be seen."
"...a shadow. For a young boy such as yourself, you do know some interesting riddles."
At that point, Link couldn't think of anymore riddles. He had told every one he could think of. Sighing, he lay slumped over one side of the boat, watching the surface of the ocean glide past the sailboat's worn red wood.
His Majesty observed distant islands with observant eyes. "I wonder what that could be...?" He mumbled.
Link sat up and pulled out his sea chart, which was wrapped up like a scroll. Along with the map of the entire great sea and its islands, he had other pieces of maps to look at; hidden treasure, where to find Beedle's Shop Ships, the different lookout platforms rising from the surface (in other words, places to raid even more treasure), and these weird maps that were supposed to help the Hero gather up all eight pieces of the Triforce of Courage, but they looked more like old, dusty pages of a torn book, with the most confusing scripted language he had ever seen. Did the great gods Valoo and Jabun speak that language?
But there was one other chart that hadn't been opened yet. It was supposed to be a sort of map that led to more treasure charts. Right now, Link and the King of Red Lions were leaving Diamond Steppe Island, a small island that gets it's name from its rhombus and stair-like shape and the treasure underneath it. From that island, they received that old map.
As soon as Link finally decided to untie the old ribbon and open the parchment, the air suddenly grew chillier. Voices traveled on the wind. Link whipped around, catching a sight of bright blue embers fluttering from a distance. A tiny bit of fog billowed around the small wisps, and before the eyes of the young Hero, a barely visible ship came into view. This ghastly mystery just appeared in the darkest part of night as if it were a ghost. Maybe this was the Ghost Ship those strange fish talked about.
Astonished, Link reached into one of his bags for a camera. He quickly snapped a photo of the mysterious ship. then, pulling out the sail, he drove the boat up to the ship.
While the king couldn't enter, Link phased right through, entering a dark basement. He could barely see through a thick purple haze that covered underneath the deck. He pulled out his bow and shot a fire arrow, sending a stream of orange light to the other side of the room. As the arrow burst into a ball of flames, a silhouette of Keese and a Wiz-Mage became visible. There was also the quiet sloshing of slimy Chuchus, the nearly inaudible chatter of rats, and snorts and grunts from Moblins, who searched through the fog for something.
The Wiz-Mage took notice of Link, then narrowed its eyes, chuckling maliciously. With a wave of its staff, it summoned three fireballs and sent them after the Hero.
The Moblins and Keese heard the small commotion and began to throw themselves into a fray of all against one.
Luckily, Link had crossed the ocean and back, diving deeper and deeper into dungeons to return lost powers to the legenday Master Sword, a weapon once wielded by the original Hero of Time. With a blade that glowed as soon as it slid out of its sheath, what would Ganon's forces have against the next wielder of the powerful weapon?
The Hero charged up energy. Enough to pull off a move not all can copy. Then he unleashed that energy, turning into a hurricane of sharp blade and zooming across the basement floors. He took down enemies in a matter of a few slashes of his sword. Still recovering from dizziness, he grabbed out his bow and blindly shot another arrow, which pierced into the guts of a Moblin. He whacked Keese across their heads with a boomerang. He slammed a giant skull hammer into Chuchus. And to top it off, he threw a bomb at a chain of explosive flowers. The flowers showered sparks before they all exploded, blasting away any enemies still lurking.
The Wiz-Mage vanished. Cowardly rats scattered across the floors and back into the crevices in walls. Keese lay sprawled on the wooden planks, life slowly bleeding from them. Chuchus muttered final words of gibberish until they reduced down to nothing more than blobs of jelly. Bodies of Moblins puffed out of existence in clouds of dark purple dust, leaving behind pockets of rupees and skull necklaces.
The fog lifted, and a ladder appeared. Link saw no other option other than to climb it. As he entered the surprisingly empty arsenal, torches on the wall lit up, revealing a treasure chest.
Eager to figure out what incredible treasure hid inside, the Hero opened the chest and found a sheet of parchment, tied with a shiny purple ribbon. He stared at the paper as he held it in his hands. Was this another treasure chart? What did it lead to?
But before he could open the chart, a mysterious fit of laughter startled him. He glanced around, wondering whose laugh that was, or where it came from. He felt a sudden chill creep up on him, and one by one, the torches blew out until the ship was completely dark.
Unaware of the passage of time, Link began to realize he lay collapsed back on his boat. Quickly, he recollected himself and stood up, confused. He still held the chart he had grabbed from the ghost ship. But how did he get back here? Where was the ship?
The sun began to rise from the east, sending dark reds and purples into the sky, followed by faint oranges and yellows. The stars began fading.
Spooked by that strange night, Link immediately set sail for his next destination: the first piece of the missing Triforce.
