Part of a story

If you happen to read this, howdy! Sorry I'm hardly ever inactive on my account anymore (you can find me on the other sites I have listed by my old stories.)

This is a preview of the story I'm writing for my cartoon.  I just thought I'd share it here because I want y'all to know I kinda miss being on here and chatting with people (I looked through all my art books I've posted and OH MAN what a nostalgia trip.)

Anyways, let's get to it!

The neat stacks of envelopes lay on the desk. They were simple white envelopes, with a golden insignia of a flaming bird at one corner. And they each had individual names printed on them in red ink.
Two white paws slammed into the envelope towers, scattering them. A curly, white-dappled tail wagged as a pale shiba inu dog scoured through the now cluttered piles of mail.
She fished out three envelopes in her search. One of them had the printed name 'Illusion,' another one read 'Flare,' and the third one, 'Lightning.' The pup grinned. She picked up the envelopes in her mouth and began to walk out of the office.
"Aileron!" A loud, irritated yowl startled her. She dropped the mail on the floor. Looming over her was a tall, pale gray cat with some greying hairs on her muzzle, and wearing a thin, dark orange jacket, with a name tag on it, reading, "Headmistress Lyfe." (Pronounced as "Leaf" )
Aileron cleared her throat and tried her best to keep her cool voice. "What's up, Mom?" She sighed.
Lyfe pointed at the scattered mail all over the desk. "Look at what a mess you've made!" She snapped. "You'd better have a good excuse for mixing up all those letters, after I've had to go through the trouble of organizing them in alphabetical order!"
Aileron flattened her ears. "I was only looking for some things."
"And what exactly are you doing with those three letters you have?"
Aileron pushed the letters into a tiny pile at her paws. "I'm going to mail them."
"We already have a scedule for mailing all these letters, Aileron." Lyfe said. "You don't need to."
"But I want to give these to my friends by myself." Aileron said. "To wish them good luck. It's the least I can do for them since they're moving out of middle school while I still have one more year."
Lyfe snorted. "Well, if you want to mail them, you should help me clean up this pile first!" She sniffed at the mess of letters on the floor before gathering them up in her paws. "I don't understand why you always mess up the work I put my time into! You'll be asking for trouble, sooner or later!"
Aileron rolled her eyes before stepping in to help her mother pick up the letters. "Sorry, Mom." She grunted. "Don't got cat paws like yours."
Lyfe snorted. "Well, you can mess up these letters, can't you? You can gather them back up."
"You don't know that I whacked them with my own paws. I coulda cannonballed into them."
Lyfe gasped. "Tell me you didn't!"
"Calm down, I didn't." Aileron chuckled.
They continied reorganizing the letters, sorting the names of different enrolled students by alphabetical order. Among the scattered letters, Aileron saw the names, 'Leo,' 'Jackson,' 'Amelia,' and 'Wesley.' Aileron tensed and gritted her teeth. Some of the middle school cronies were enrolling?! Oh, boy...
"Question," Aileron said, holding up the envelopes. "Why are THESE guys enrolling?"
Lyfe looked to her daughter in confusion. "Why, they passed the enrollment test, so they've been accepted."
"These guys have been total scumbags to me and my friends!" Aileron said. "How can guys dumber than rocks have the mental capacity to get into the academy?"
"You can't talk about your soon-to-be classmates like that?!" Lyfe snapped. "You don't get to dictate their decisions!"
Aileron blinked. "'Soon-to-be?'" She repeated. "...Mom, you know I still have one more year of middle school, right?" She smirked. "Or are you so old that you're forgetting?"
Of course, Lyfe swatted her over the ears. "Don't even go there!" She shouted, fuming but obviously trying not to crack a smile.
Aileron let out a short laugh. She loved to tease; back at middle school, everyone considered it her trademark.
"You see, Aileron... I wanted to discuss." Lyfe started. "You've done so well in middle school, and I can tell you're getting restless. And with your friends going off to the academy... What if you..."
Aileron's eyes widened. "Wait, WHAT?" She gaped. "Hold on, you're saying you think I can enroll at the academy early?!"
Lyfe smiled. "Well, wouldn't that be nice?" She said. "If you're lucky, you might share some classes with your friends!"
Aileron stared in disbelief. " ...No." She said. "I can't be ready for that."
"But then you won't have to wake up two hours early just to get to the school anymore, right?" Lyfe pressed. "And your friends will always be close by! And you won't have to go to that apology of a school, 'Silver Stars.' I think you will find much greater opportunities here!"
Aileron frowned. She knew Lyfe took great pride in her school, and sometimes degraded other schools she didn't like.
"Mom, this is a stupid idea!" Aileron said. "The academy is basically a mini-college! It's like sending a 7-year-old to find a retail job!" She remembered how anxious her friends had been over the enrollment test. "And I haven't even taken the test! How will we even know I'm any worth at the academy?"
Lyfe thought for a moment. "Just think about a decision for a little bit." She said. "You still have time to decide. And I can come up with an alternate test to get in."
"Why don't YOU think about YOUR decision?" Aileron retorted. "You still have time to realize how stupid all this is!"
Lyfe looked to the ceiling and sighed in exasperation. "Aileron, I give you a great opportunity, and you just shout at me!"
"Well, what can I tell ya?! I wasn't expecting any of this!" Aileron barked. "This wasn't my idea!"
"Aileron, my SWEET CHILD." Lyfe hissed before taking a deep breath. "I'm just trying to help you out. Middle school was a tough one on you..."
Aileron glared at the silver cat. "You want me to skip a whole year of school to go to another school full of pretentious masterminds and brats who think they can get away with anything they want. THAT'S going to help me."
"Golden Phoenix Academy has room only for academic and elective opportunities for students to take." Lyfe said. "No room for stirring up trouble."
Like you say I always do, thought Aileron.
But then Aileron started thinking. She knew the academy had many different classes for studies of magic, fine arts, music-making, biology and genetics of arcane animals. And with middle school having been the death of her, even with her friends around, she didn't know how'd she survive another year there.
Right. Another year of middle school and she would probably want to hide in a corner and never exist.
But she didn't know how much harder the classes at the academy would be. They could be just as difficult, or even more. And the middle school cronies would likely still be as mature as nine-year-olds.
She sighed. "...I'll... think about it." She said. "But if I say yes, I'll only go on one condition."
Lyfe opened her mouth to snap at Aileron, but then closed it and thought for a moment. "Alright," she said. "Your condition being..."
Aileron looked into her mother's eyes.
"I get to stay with my friends when they move into their dorms."

That's all I got so far. Now I should get some sleep as by the time I post this it's pretty late and I've been sick. Goodnight!
