26-High Highs to Low Lows
"Fake gold on my hoops, real rips on my pants
They think it's all gucci but it's 99 cents
I swear, I swear
Ooh you wanna help me
Ooh you wanna fly me out to LA
Dreams you wanna sell me
I took a bite that's a gold plate"
High Highs to Low lows-Lolo Zouai
Jin had been feeling uneasy lately.
When everything around him was perfect.
He and Namjoon were thriving.
Celine had made it as an artist.
All of his other friends were living seemingly happy lives.
Even the weather wasn't too bad, with the existential crisis of climate change.
And yet something didn't feel quite right to the man.
He laid awake in bed the night before, unable to sleep. Not even the stuffed panda that brought him comfort at night could lull away the apprehensive tightening in his chest. He felt like prey, waiting to be pounced on by the predator called life.
It led him to be in a very grumpy mood in the morning. He'd woken up, completely ignoring his boyfriend as he made his way to the kitchen.
He always fancied the way his white curtains drifted in and out of his French double doors, which led to the backyard. But today, with the wind blowing wildly, it seemed like another haunting omen, as he drank his coffee wide eyed and alone.
The broad shouldered man jumped a little, when he felt arms wrap around his waist.
"Good morning babe." Said Namjoon, planting a soft kiss on his neck.
Jin patted the man's arm, still staring wide eyed into the distance. His dimples boyfriend must have sensed the tense environment, for he carefully prodded the man for an answer.
"Are you okay? You seem stressed."
The brown haired man shook his head, watching the lilting curtains that started to look like a phantom.
"I don't know, do you ever get a feeling that something bad is going to happen. And you don't know what or how, but you know it's certain?"
The purple haired man bent his head down, low enough so that the other man could see him out of his peripheral vision. The colorful man took a deep intake of breath, before speaking with a questioning tone.
"Are you going to break up with me?"
Jin felt a moment of panic jolt him. He immediately turned around, laying his hands affectionately on his boyfriend's shoulders. He took in the tan dimpled man before him, falling more and more for the cute expression everyday.
"Of course not. I love you. I'm just worried, that's all."
The taller man planted a small kiss on Jin's forehead. He knew the man often worried, even about the small things. He often hid it with bitchy remarks and slander, but the younger man knew the truth.
"Well don't. You're much more handsome when you smile."
"Take that back. I'm a model, even my brooding face is hot." Jin spat back. Namjoon laughed, loving how quickly his boyfriend clapped back at him.
"I didn't say it wasn't hot."
Jin rolled his eyes, pulling away from the equally attractive man. If he didn't, breakfast would not have been made.
"Whatever you pervert. We didn't even have breakfast yet. Keep your paws off of me."
The dimples came back, as the man backpedaled out of the kitchen.
"Okay babe, I'm going to take a shower."
Jin nodded his head, already getting out the necessary items to cook an omelette.
"Alright." He answered back absentmindedly.
He almost regretted sending Namjoon away, when he was left with his own thoughts.
That feeling of trepidation just wouldn't leave his body.
Jin had known luxury his entire life. Forever well off with money. His parents had given him everything he'd ever wanted. Of course he was a bit spoiled, but overall, he thought of himself as a good person.
And especially a good friend. But lately, he felt like that was becoming less and less true.
Maybe he had it to easy in life. That's why fate was testing his limits now, as an adult.
Maybe his life was so easy, so that he had the courage to help others.
Maybe that's why it felt like his time to go through something terrible, was overdue.
The hardest thing he'd ever experienced, was Jeongguk's mistake.
That one god awful mistake.
Even though that situation wasn't due to any of his actions, he still felt like he could have prevented. Jeongguk's parents, they liked to sit on the sidelines.
They "loved" their son so much, they let him do whatever he wanted. Bought him a Lamborghini before he could even drive. Made a new school when the boy complained about his teacher. They even changed the time his favorite show came on so he could watch it when he was done his sports.
The boy had raised thinking the world was his.
And when he didn't get what he wanted, god help everyone else.
It was this, that always kept Jin on his toes. Jin met Jeongguk after he became friends with Hoseok. The man said he'd met a guy who could dance really well and introduced the two. He came off as a goofy, confident kid. Of course anyone from the Jeon family would be a little arrogant. They practically ran the business world. It was to be expected, and the man became like an older brother to Jeongguk anyways. But there was something in his gaze that worried Jin.
It was like the boy was a ticking time bomb.
"Hey Jin." Said a voice from the side of the room.
"Hello, wait Jeongguk?!" Yelled Jin, after looking up and recognizing the young man before him. The broad shouldered man placed a hand over his rapidly beating heart.
The younger man just cocked his head to the side, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah?" He said, sitting at the kitchen island where Jin continued to cut chives. The dark haired man grabbed an apple from his fruit bowl, and took a large bite of it.
As it were normal to just show up in his kitchen, without making any noises.
"What are you doing here? Not that I don't want you to be. I'm just curious."
More like annoyed. The dark haired male had started a bad habit of showing up announced. And it was usually when he was pissed off, or wanted something from the older male.
"I don't know Jin. I just have something on my mind that I can't quite figure out."
Great, which still didn't explain why he neglected to text or call first. It's like he had planned to catch the older man off guard. Jin had no clue why, but he gripped the kitchen knife he was holding tighter.
"Well, you know I'm here to talk." Jin said, finally calming down after he slowed his breathing.
Jeongguk sighed, letting out a deep breath as he looked off to the side. His eyes were wide, letting Jin know he was deep in thought.
"Yeah. You're actually the first person I thought of. Since you're dating Namjoon and all."
"What does that have to do with anything?" Jin asked, getting a bit defensive as he continued to fix up breakfast.
"Well, it's not about you guys in particular. It's more about relationships in general. And you know, what people should be comfortable with or not."
Jin held his breath, already dreading this conversation. Anything that had to do with relationships, he tried to avoid with the young boy.
"Keep talking."
"What is your opinion on Sugar Daddies?" Jeongguk rushes out, basically flinching as the words left his mouth.
Jin was lucky that he was a trained actor, as well as model.
If not, he would have made a horrified expression. Broken down and told the man everything, without even saying the words. Just with a knowing look on his face.
But no, he started to chop red peppers. Giving the younger boy an amused side eye. Like the older man found the idea funny, and unfamiliar.
Because why the fuck else would Jeongguk be asking about a Sugar Daddy? If he didn't suspect it about his beloved girlfriend.
"Why? Want me to be yours? Because I don't have the money or patience for that. You're very high maintenance."
"No, that's not what I'm asking. Like what's your opinion on it? Weird? Trashy? Interesting?" The younger man pushed, leaning closer to Jin on the counter.
"I don't know, I don't really think about it often." The brown haired man replied, barely giving the man eye contact. He was lucky that he had distractions around him, to make his lack of connection less shady.
"Yeah, but would you like if Namjoon did it?"
That's what stopped Jin, finally. The knife dropped from his hand, as he looked up at his younger friend. Jeongguk smiled, knowing he'd finally gotten a reaction from the man.
"If there was a good reason." Said the elder male, placing his hands on his hips with frustration. He was increasingly getting pissed off at being grilled, and especially over something as suspicious as this. For Celine's sake, he wanted this conversation to end as soon as possible.
He tried investigating, seeing if there were any clues to Jeongguk seemed calm. Maybe a little more tense than usual, but nothing like he would be if he found out about Celine's job.
Or at least Jin thought.
But Jeongguk, didn't like his answer. He wanted something more violent, more emotion driven. And he was going to get it.
"Cut the bullshit Jin. The honest truth if you found out that Namjoon was plowing into other older man's assholes every night." He said, spitting the words out like venom.
Jin threw his hands down on the counter, accidentally knocking over a glass of water. Neither paid attention as they stared each other down. The elder filled with anger and disgust, and the younger knowing he had Jin right where he wanted him.
"Jeongguk!"
The boy's name rung in the air between them. The brown haired man was visibly upset by the question, but the younger was out to prove a point.
Because people often have opinions, without stepping into another person's shoes.
It's easy to sit on a sideline, and say that something is okay or alright when it's not affecting you.
But just watch.
As soon as the same situation effects the same person, it becomes wrong in their eyes.
People just don't care as much, when something doesn't directly target them.
"Give me an answer!" The 19 year old said, raising his voice at friend.
Jin threw his hands up in the air, face getting increasingly more red. The truth running out of his mouth like molten lava. Burning his tongue with regret and insecurities.
"Fine! I'd fucking hate it. I would cry myself to sleep every night. I would lie and say that I'm fine, but inside be slowly dying. Telling Namjoon that everything is okay, and smile every time. Along the way, I'd doubt our love and connection. Constantly wonder if the people he was having sex with were better than me. Is that what you want to hear?!"
Jin was breathing heavily, his chest caving in and out. He slowly unclenched his hands, realizing he said something he shouldn't have. If the boy hadn't egged him on, he would have never said something like that. So stupid and untrusting of his own boyfriend. He felt guilt wrack his body.
He'd inadvertently insulted Celine and Namjoon.
Jeongguk was smiling, genuinely at him.
Oh fuck.
"That's exactly what I wanted to hear." The man slid easily off the kitchen stool, taking another bite of the apple. Winking at the man like he hadn't severely pissed him off. He was calm, cool, and collected while Jin was having a hard time even breathing.
Not giving the slightest fuck.
"What does that even mean?"
The younger male turned to smile at him one more time.
"Nothing important. Thanks Jin."
And then he was gone. As quick as he had came.
"Was Jeongguk just here? I swear he heard his voice." Said Namjoon, as he ran down the steps. He walked up beside Jin, surprised he hadn't finished making the food by now. The steam from the shower still rolled off of him in waves.
Jin clenched his jaw, teeth biting harshly into his lip as he turned to look at his boyfriend.
"Namjoon, you know what I said about earlier with something bad happening?"
The man sighed, moving to hug the model into his chest.
"Babe, I told you not to-Oh my god you're bleeding!"
"No I'm not what are you-" Jin's words cut off as he looked down, and saw his pointer finger covered in blood. Some of it was crusted and browning, but the cut was still deep enough to keep oozing.
Jeongguk must have been there when it happened, and hadn't said anything. While they were fighting. While Jin was talking to him and cutting with the knife.
Namjoon dressed his wound, finding a hello kitty bandaid for the man to wear.
Jin didn't care.
He needed to call someone.
As soon as he got the bandage on, he called the person who's understand the problem at hand. He was wracked with anxiety, finally relieved as Hoseok picked up the call.
"Hey, um we have a big problem." Said Jin, hiding away in his bedroom.
Even though Namjoon knew everything about the situation, he didn't want his boyfriend to hear him getting upset. He thought it would be better to talk in private.
He proceeded to tell the man what transpired between him and Jeongguk. Hoseok who never usually curses, let out a string of expletives during the entire story.
"This is not good." Said the orange haired man, sounding worried over the phone.
"Hoseok, this is bad. Should I call Celine? Should I just jump off a bridge and avoid it all?"
Of course the man was joking. But the joke still worried Hoseok. He felt that Jin often took on a lot of stress that he didn't need. It worried him sometime.
"Well don't do that. You could just be overthinking it."
"I'm pretty sure Jeongguk knows Celine is a sugar baby." Jin said aloud again, his eyes widening. He felt a cross between shock and just pure emotion.
He knew the day would come, but he didn't think it would be now. All of it felt like a dream. They were all living in a glass bubble, and just waiting for it to crack.
They'd all gotten too comfortable in their lies. In their secrets.
"Are you positive?"
"Yeah, our whole "plan" of making sure he didn't find out obviously didn't work. He must have paid a lot of money to get through the security I put on her records. But why is he searching so hard? What made him doubt her?"
"Do you think he knows about Jimin?" Questioned Hoseok, bringing up another good point.
But Jin immediately shot that down. If that were the truth, Jeongguk wouldn't be coming to Jin first. There wouldn't be a house that could contain him.
"No, he can't. He wouldn't be this calm if he did."
"That's true. I'm not sure if we should tell Celine though." Hoseok said, quietly and slowly. Like he was afraid of Jin's reaction.
"Why not?!" The older man yelled out, knowing it probably made the orange haired man jump.
This seemed like something he had to tell her. No matter how much he didn't want to.
The younger male began to speak, sounding certain.
"Because at this point, he doesn't seem too outraged. I think if we tell her, it might just make the situation worse. She could be freaking out over nothing. I say we just keep a close eye on him as of now."
"Okay, I guess that makes sense." Jin said, finally letting out a breath. That was the call he was dreading to make. And Hoseok made the easier route look like the best option, so he decided to take the advice.
He wrapped it in a pretty bow, and sent it to the back of his mind.
"Do you think love is worth it?" Hoseok wasn't specific, but they both knew he was referring to Jimin and Celine.
Jin smiled, thinking of the purple haired man downstairs who was probably burning coffee as he spoke.
"It's worth every tear."
*********
Mr. Song had been sitting at his computer all day, stressed beyond recognition.
Working for Jeongguk was already hard enough, but prying through people's personal information? It was sickening to the man. But he needed to pay the bills. He needed to be able to give the hospital money.
His wife had stage three breast cancer. And this was the only job he could get. He'd always been good with computer hacking. So of course a business who loved messing with other people's stocks would hire him.
So why did he feel so guilty? Searching through 18 year old Kim Celine's life?
A girl he'd never met before, or spoken to. Only ever heard the tales of her love with Jeongguk. And how she managed to ruin all of that with her infidelity.
Because she knew the pain of losing a loved one, who left this earth way too early. A prospect that would most likely greet Mr. Song in the next few years.
That's why sweat dropped down the heavy man's forehead. Into his eyes, stinging with tears and now salt as he looked at the file before him.
KIM MIA: 19 years old, black hair, brown eyes, 5'4"
DEATH: AUGUST 12th 2015
REASON: Car crash with drunk driver. Smashed directly into passenger side at traffic light. On impact, neck was broken and spinal cord crushed. Not killed on impact, but died at the hospital because of explicitly stated injuries.
The poor girl had been driving when he sister was murdered.
By Mr. Song's boss.
He almost quit then, after realizing it. He was one of the few people that knew Jeongguk had drunk driven, and murdered someone. He'd actually developed a relationship with the man. The older male thought he was a good kid. Hardworking and confident. He became like an uncle to the boy, telling him that mistakes were made in his life.
But after reading what happened, he didn't know what exactly to think or believe anymore. Because of who he killed. It wasn't someone random.
Jeon Jeongguk would not be okay with this information. The boy would more than likely have a freak out.
Who he was reported to call, within the next five minutes.
Fate seemed to have a noose already tied around his neck, when he received an incoming call from the devil himself.
"Hello Song, what do you have for me?" Spoke a cheery Jeongguk from the other line.
Song gulped, knowing that he wouldn't sound so jubilee within the next few minutes. The man was fearful of two things.
Being jobless, and facing the wrath of the Jeon family. They ruled the city. And ruled whether his wife would survive or not.
But he had to be honest, or else he'd definitely be in trouble.
"Well, a whole fucking lot of information. You might want to take a seat for this boss."
The man on the other line laughed. It was surprisingly arrogant, for the information that the older man now was privy to. It unsettled him deeply.
"I'm pretty sure it's nothing I can't handle. After finding out the love of your life is cheating on you, nothing seems to crazy right?"
Jesus Christ, you have no fucking idea.
"Right...well this might be the icing on the cake. I found out something about her siblings. Well, one of them."
The man grumbled on the other line, seemingly frustrated. His voice came out strained, as if the older man was lying about the information he found. Because Celine wouldn't possibly lie about that, right?
"Her siblings? What do you mean she only has a brother."
Was this kid messing with him? If this man was Celine's boyfriend, why had she not told him this? It was almost creepy at this point. How much this girl lied to him.
She was living a double life, that Jeongguk was never apart of on either side.
"What? I'm talking about Celine's sister, Mia Kim."
Again, the young man scoffed. Song heard the sound of a chair falling over through the other side of the phone.
This, was what he was worried about. The dark haired man's temper.
"Celine has a sister? What the fuck! Why didn't she tell me?"
"Had a sister. She died in a car crash about 2 years ago. Almost three now." The man's voice was quieter now, more grave. He was getting closer and closer to the truth that felt like an exploding bomb.
"What?! That's insane. There's no fucking way she wouldn't tell me that."
"It's true. After all my research though, the whole thing is kind of shady. The parents went through a lot of trouble to keep things quiet. Apparently they iced Celine out of the family, and cut her off as well."
The young male had calmed down a bit, sighing into the phone. Song knew the relief wouldn't last for too long though. The man kept playing with the pen he found on his desk. Clicking the top up and down, to relieve the anxiety that wracked his old and fatigued body.
"Jesus Christ. That's terrible. And explains why she took up such a disgusting job. I can't hate her for that anymore."
The elderly man shook his head, disappointed in the younger. If he hated the woman at all, it shouldn't be for that. She had to do what she had to do after being put on the streets at 16. The younger man would never understand what it was like to not have money.
"Well there's something else I found out. I'm not sure if you'll want to hear it. It could make you upset."
Mr. Song was not ready to tell him. If this information got out, it could ruin the young business man. It's not like the police could do anymore with the closed case, but his reputation could be soiled. He did not want to be the one to cause that.
"I don't care. Tell me, I want to know everything."
You will care. You'll be devastated.
Maybe even hate yourself after.
I don't want to do that to you.
It's another situation, where ignorance is bliss.
"Mia Kim died in a car crash, a drunk driver hit her. Celine was the one driving. And-"
"And what? Just spit it out already?"
"It was the same day and time you crashed into a car, and killed a woman inside. The same place, and with the same cars. Everything adds up. It was you who killed Celine's sister Jeongguk."
He waited for the man to hung up. To start crying. But there was silence. Only the sound of heavy breathing.
Mr. Song felt like he was going to pass out.
"I didn't kill her."
The young man was in denial. His voice was stable, not a hint of emotion in it. It was expected to be in shock, after finding out you killed someone so important.
But it was still shocking to hear the words leave the man's lips. He had to know the truth. He had to know that the elderly man wasn't lying to him.
"What are you saying Jeon? That's the same night you were out drunk driving. The same vehicle you reportedly hit. Your parents gave a large chunk of money to the Kim's to keep them quiet, they knew you did it. It's probably another reason why your mom didn't want Celine around. She didn't want the young girl to find out the truth. It was you."
There was silence on both ends. Not another word spoken between the two. Mr. Song was afraid of being fired, or worse because of the information he now knew. He expected the man to blow up. To start crying. To scream at him. To blame himself with guilt.
But that would be a normal reaction.
And what Jeon Jeongguk said next, shook the man to the core with utter disgust, unlike any he had ever felt before.
"I didn't kill her, if my name isn't written on the police report."

(A/N): 😏😏😏 dah dah dunnnn
I can't wait to see people's reactions to this. This was actually supposed to happen later in the book, but a lot of smart people were catching on.
But I hope this still surprised most of you guys.
Don't worry though, the book will still be 50 chapters. I haven't changed the plot at all, just the place and some scene sequences. I will never change anything just to confuse the readers even more. I feel like that's cheating 😛There is still so much left to the plot that is undiscovered.
