Chapter 14

"We only have two choices:
Do nothing or
Do something."
~ Tony Kirwan

"You see Kabe, I knew you were a bit crazy - in the nice way - but I didn't think you were insane," Lizzy responded to Kabe's offer after having a seat.

"Okay, that sounded really wrong. I should have phrased that question differently," Kabe replied.

He walked back and forth in front of the couch where both Lizzy and Chantal were seated. He sighed a couple of times and at infrequent moments tapped his index finger on his bottom lip while he paced.

Suddenly without a hint he stopped directly in front of Lizzy.

"Lizzy, I want you to know that I trust you for all the time that I have known you but first I want to know, do you trust me?" Kabe asked as he looked straight into her eyes.

Lizzy sensed that this was very important but something made her stop and think really hard. Did she really trust this guy? Did she trust the guy that she has known all her life that she now heard was in human trafficking. Who should she even believe? Kabe or her brother Ryan?

Something in the way that he spoke and the look in his eyes made her know, he was not lying. It made her know he wanted her unwavering trust.

Looking directly into his eyes she replied, "I trust you Kabe."

"Then I want your promise, to keep everything that I'm about to tell you confidential. You cannot tell Ryan either," Kabe said firmly.

Kabe was not ever the one who went around speaking so seriously but as Lizzy sat and watched him and listened to him, it was as if watching a new born growing old but in fast forward. He was not his light, easy going personality anymore but someone more rigid as if life had thrown him every curve ball that it knew. She also sensed that her answer, her agreement was going to change everything.

She took a deep breathe in and then breathed it out, "I promise."

Kabe knew she meant it and knew she was ready for it but he allowed only two seconds and nothing more of what she knew about him to last. Then...

"I am an undercover FBI agent."

Lizzy hands that were laying flat on her lap before slowly moved, inching closer together until her fingers interlocked tightly. Silence ensued for only a short while. Then slowly her lip curved into a small challenging smile.

"Oh yeah? Well prove it Mr. Slater," Lizzy said folding her arms tightly in front of her.

Kabe looked to Chantal then to Lizzy. He then pushed his hand into his pocket and pulled it back out producing his wallet which was a bit thicker than a regular wallet.

He unzipped it producing another smaller wallet which could be flipped open. Kabe tossed it to Lizzy who caught it skillfully.

"Open it," he demanded.

"You know that me opening this will change everything, right? It will change the way I look at you, how I interact with you. You won't just be my friend, you will become the friend I fear and the friend that had to omit a big portion of his life from the people that mattered most in his life," she sighed, "I can't say I want to murder my film professor again, right?" Lizzy joked.

Kabe smiled a little, "I guess so."

Lizzy then looked down at the supposed wallet and flipped it open. Looking back up at her was Kabe's FBI badge.

"Makes sense why you could never afford that bucket of ice cream for me because this was never really a wallet in the first place," Lizzy said smiling down at the badge.

Kabe remained silent knowing she really didn't want an answer.

After a few moments of silence a small sob erupted from Chantal. Lizzy quickly slid to her side hugging her.

"Hey, everything will be okay. We'll get you out of this even if I don't get to go back to college anytime soon."

Chantal sobbed even more.

"This... this is just not right," Chantal began, "Both of you are sacrificing waaaay too much to help me and the other girls. We don't deserve it at all. It's our fault that we got into this in the first place so we should try and get out of it ourselves. Just send me back. I'm causing you guys too much. Your friendship, your life and your dreams. It's too much sacrifice, just too much," Chantal sobbed, "I don't want to be the cause of a broken friendship."

"Oh gosh no it's not and you won't be," Lizzy tried to console Chantal, "This is what I want to do. Save helpless girls like you and it's not your fault but the persons who lied to you and mistreated you, sell you and kill you slowly each day. I want to help you get free. I want to help girls like you to wake each morning and not worry about who will come and rip your dignity into shreds. I want you to wake each morning and smile because you have something in life you just have to fulfill," Lizzy smiled as she envisioned the freedom that she prayed so badly for, for the girls, "I want you to wake up free every morning Chantal."

"But why me? Why us?" Chantal cried, "Why save us when you have your life to live?"

Kabe sat beside her and hugged her other side.

"We want to save you because you are worth saving."

I just feel like I'm back writing the way I used to. The previous chapter felt so wrong as I wrote especially since I'm not really writing stories or essays anymore during school time since I'm focusing on the subjects I need for my career, so I didn't even bother with the author's note at the end. I wasn't even going to write another chapter so soon but, hey I did!

I'm dedicating this chapter to Hannahdoom . Her comment on the last chapter just made me realize just how much the next chapter was being anticipated (after MONTHS of not updating) without me even noticing it! And that's encouragement enough for me to continue! So thank You Hannahdoom for your continued support it means a lot!

Well have an awesome rest of the day guys and please do drop a vote, comment and share this !
