Ten

I sat in the corner of the exam room as Melissa checked up on Jeremy. My head was rested on my hand and my leg was currently bouncing up and down nervously.

"Okay so it looks like you do have an infection in this cut but nothing a little medicine can't fix. These bruises should heal in a few days. Your hand does seem to be sprained so I'll get a splint and wrap you up." Melissa turned to me and smiled, and I raised my brows as a gesture, watching her walk out as Jeremy rubbed his wrist.

"So why won't you tell me what else they did to you?" I asked, leaning forward and knitting my fingers together as my little brother looked down in shame.

"Why won't you tell me how you could take down those two men? You wouldn't have been able to do that last month." Jeremy retorted as I sighed through my nose.

"Adrenaline, Jeremy. Makes you stronger in the heat of the moment. Now how bad did they harm you? Or any of the other kids?" I asked, but before he could finish, Melissa walked back in with a small smile.

"Okay, I got the splint. I'll wrap you up then I can take you two to your mom."

"You... boys. So brave." My mom smiled as Melissa gave the two of us solemn looks. I turned to her as she sucked in a breath.

"The after effects of the stroke have been setting in for a few days. She's... having a tougher time speaking and processing a lot of words. I'll give you three some time alone." Melissa shut the door quietly behind her as Jeremy jumped up onto the bed.

"I'm... happy, you're okay... Jeremy." My mom smiled down at Jeremy, slowly kissing the top of his head.

I didn't say much. I mainly stared out the window, deep in thought about how I could save my mom. I knew that if I hit her it wouldn't do anything. Derek had told me only Alpha's could change humans to werewolves.

Maybe if I got Derek to bite my mom... he could save her.

I turned to see Jeremy and my mom smiling at one another, which brought a smile to my face before I frowned, realizing we had to go.

"Jeremy.., we gotta get home, Buddy." I forced a smile as he sighed in disappointment.

"Goodbye, mom." Jeremy and I said in unison as she gave us a small wave.

I waited until Jeremy was asleep to go to Derek's house. Well... what was left of it.

He had sensed I was coming, now waiting on the porch of his old home. "You want something, don't you?" He asked with a sly smirk as I nodded.

"I want you to save my mom." I said as Derek chuckled.

"You're putting everyone before you, Dean. Why not do something for yourself? Become more confident or—or make a friend. Hell, get a girlfriend." He said, arms now shoved dee in the pockets of his leather jacket.

"I don't want a girlfriend." I glared at him as Derek hummed, leaning forward slightly.

"Then a boyfriend." He whispered and I rolled my eyes.

"Look Derek. I already have everything I want. I just want to do something for my family. To keep it together. I—If my mom were to die this year, I wouldn't be old enough to become Jeremy's legal guardian and— and he'll be taken from me. Then I'll be all alone. I can't be alone."

"And you won't. Because you got me now. You're apart of a pack." Derek said, jumping off the porch. I dropped my head, shaking it slightly.

"I just want my mom to be okay, why can't you just give her the bite?" I asked as Derek scoffed, sucking his teeth.

"Because, Dean. I don't know if she'll survive it or not." I held his gaze for a long time, confusion most definitely written on my face.

"W-What?" I asked, raising a brow as Derek shrugged.

"There's two ways the bite can go. 1: You get bitten and you successfully transform into a werewolf or 2: you get bitten... and you die." The way he had paused made it feel like he learned it from experience.

And if I was being honest... I wanted to know more, but I knew he wouldn't open up so soon.

"So you can't save her?" I asked, sadness and disappointment dripping out of my mouth. Derek gave me a solemn look before nodding slowly.

"Look, I wish there was a way I could save your mom, but she's weak. There's no way the bite would work on her." When I looked up, Derek was gone, leaving me alone in the woods.

I clenched my fists then ran a hand through my hair, tears glistening in my eyes as the almost full-moon shined down on my face.

I huffed with pure anger before running back home, locking the door tightly and going to my bedroom, forcing myself to sleep.

Blood dripped down my hands as I stared down at a girl with strawberry blonde hair. Her eyes were wide open with horror, silver dress covered in her own blood.

"Lydia...." I whispered.

I remember this night. It was the Winter Formal.

I was dancing with Casandra when I saw Lydia walk out, leaving her date Stiles alone in the gym. It wasn't really like her, Lydia was a party person. She loved throwing parties whenever she could, why leave a gym full of people who were having a good time?

Watching Stiles, I realized he had a worried look on his face. I left Casandra to go follow Stiles, and suddenly my point of view was changing.

I was chasing after Lydia, but she had no clue I was running for her u til it was too late. I watched her fall to the ground, my point of view changing back to my own self.

I heard Stiles screaming Lydia's name, everyone piling out of the gym to see the girl covered in red. She looked dead.

And maybe she was.

I gasped awake, looking around in confusion. I was in the middle of the Beacon Hills lacrosse field, the only thing I was wearing would be my plaid pajama pants.

I stumbled to stand up, spinning around. I wasn't ever known to sleep walk. And if I did, how the hell did I get this far?

Maybe it was a werewolf thing.
