Author's Note

One doesn't see many successful marching band stories. I wrote my first extended one back in 2015 (Two and Three: A mystery/thriller centered around five marching band students. Completed and found on my profile.) It's even harder to find ones that aren't pure teen fiction.

With this story I'm more subtle with the marching band references, but they are all still there, eventually, once this book is closed and the sequel is out on Wattpad, this will a full blown band story.

So tell your band friends, your orchestra buddies, your colorguard family, and the Drumline folk. Tell the music theorists, the epic score fanatics, the silence gurus, and those wished they were part of something bigger. And even those who are just looking for a good fantasy story, for a tale of magic, friendship, discrimination, and loss. You tell them too.

This is a story for those of you who ever wondered if there was magic in music, and those who know that there is. This is a story of beauty among the silence and freedom on the wind.

And there's also the occasional elf, dwarf, dragon and dragonrider thrown in there to keep things interesting.

What are you doing just sitting there? Keep scrolling! The story is that way! *points toward the prologue* It's just one day's journey over the mountains and past the cover contest, you can't miss it!

Are you daunted by the amount of chapters? Well then don't be, I make the chapters relatively short on purpose so you a) have regular updates and b) don't have to sit through madly long chapters (see how some of them are split into parts? Yeah.)

*pulls out a clarinet and starts playing the theme from Lord of the Rings* *looks up* You're still here. This is my author's note, my spot. Kindly, get out. Go stand over there, in the story.

Okay, okay, welcome to the North Cardinal.

Authors Note #2

Hola, JustCompetitions! This is me tagging you in the story. All good? Okay bye!

*looks at readers* I said get out of the author's note and start reading! There are adventures to be had!

Also, first draft, the story is sound but it is unedited in places. I do my best to proofread to make it as polished as possible for you guys. I hope you all make it past chapter six.

Just a thought, I'm not here trying to be perfect. Writing is a hobby although it is a pretty big one. I'm not trying to be the next big thing, I'm just trying to tell a story. So yes there will be plot holes, and I always have the problem of dragging out my beginnings too long.

That's okay, because I'm fine with this story. Sure I want to improve and will take any feedback you have, but it's my story and I just want to get it finished.

Author's Note #3

I'm taking this down from the Wattys running, (I'll take down the more later). My main focus with this book is to get it finished. We're about two thirds to halfway there as of now (10.2.16).

So though I know this book really needs it, I'll either leave the mass editing for after, or when I rewrite, or when I find myself a good and dedicated editor.
