I raised my eyebrows to act surprised.

"I can't let you out, Violet. They won't tell me where the key is."

"Then I guess I can starve," I reply, pushing the still-full tray under the door.

He looks at me sadly. "Vi-"

"Don't bother. I wasn't worth the effort before, and I'm obviously not worth the effort now. So just go."
