I couldn't help but create a comic for this question. :v

If you can't tell, Nixxon is being transported into the Flowerfell timeline from our original timeline. This FF timeline is where it would seem Layla basically took Frisk's place. I haven't fleshed out the entire AU placements, but Flowey is helping Layla right now because she's blind from the flowers.

Nixxon, although very confused, understood that Layla needed assistance even though he just met her. Many thoughts were running through his head but the only thing that broke the train was Layla and her hug. She looked tired, wounded, blinded, and not to mention terrified. He wouldn't have accepted the fact that he was in a different timeline (especially the Underfell line) without Layla there as a grounding point. He knows Layla, but not the timeline itself. If anything, she's a good place to start in understanding the timeline along with Flowey.
