Chapter 18
Third person's pov
The morning light filtered softly through the sheer curtains, tinging the room with a warm golden hue.
Taehyung awoke to the comforting quiet, glancing over to find Jungkook still asleep, his chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm.
With a cautious tenderness not to wake him, Taehyung slid out of bed and stretched lightly, tiptoeing out to the balcony to welcome the day.
The air was crisp, Taehyung leaned against the railing,
Suddenly, the sound of the door creaking open turned Taehyung around. Jungkook stood there, his hair tousled from sleep,
"You're up early today," Taehyung said, his voice a soft melody in the quiet morning air.
Jungkook just nodded,
"Do you want me to make breakfast?" Taehyung asked softly.
Jungkook hesitated before shaking his head slightly. "No, I don't feel like eating."
Instantly, Taehyung was at his side, his hand against Jungkook's forehead.
"Do you have a fever? Stomach ache? Are you alright?" Taehyung’s voice was laced with concern,
Jungkook’s cheeks flushed a shade pinker under Taehyung’s touch; he looked away momentarily, a "I-I a-am fine," he stuttered softly,
Taehyung, sensed the retreat and withdrew his hand,
"Go get freshened up, then," he said with a gentle smile. "Let's go for a long drive, what do you say?"
Jungkook nodded, his movements slow, almost thankful for the distraction.
He disappeared into the bathroom, and Taehyung heard the faint sound of water running. As he waited, Taehyung prepared a light bag with essentials and two bottles of water.
Moments later, Jungkook emerged, looking a shade fresher but with eyes still clouded. Taehyung offered a reassuring smile.
Then they both made their outside the house and Taehyung locked the door.
As they both sat in the car, Taehyung started the engine, the soft purr of the car resonating in the air. Jungkook, gazed out of the window at the changing scenery. The clouds above hinted at an impending downpour, their shades casting a muted palette across the sky.
Taehyung sensed a need to lighten the mood. "Do you want to do something?" Taehyung asked, glancing at Jungkook, who remained silent.
Suddenly, raindrops began to fall on the car's windshield, Taehyung, realizing that the weather might be a dampener on their plans, suggested, "Looks like we have to go back now. The weather might get worse. I should have checked the forecast."
Jungkook, his gaze fixated on the droplets racing down the window, looked up at Taehyung with doe eyes. "T-ta-aehy-yung," he said,
"Hmm?" Taehyung responded, navigating the rain-slicked road.
"C-ca-an w-we pla-ay i-in t-the r-rain?" Jungkook's request hung in the air,
Taehyung, surprised by the unexpected suggestion, turned to Jungkook. "You want to play in the rain?" he repeated, eyebrows raised.
Jungkook, expecting a possible scolding, looked down. However, Taehyung's face broke into a warm smile. "It will be so much fun; let's do it," he declared.
Jungkook's eyes lit up, and a wide smile adorned his face. Taehyung's heart skipped a beat at the sight. "Really?" Jungkook asked, seeking confirmation.
"Absolutely," Taehyung affirmed, his own excitement mirrored in Jungkook's joy. He pulled the car to the side of the road, and both of them stepped out into the rain-drenched world.
Jungkook, without a moment's hesitation, opened his arms wide, welcoming the rain like an old friend. Laughter and the sound of raindrops colliding with leaves filled the air.
His giggles echoed in the open space,
Time seemed to stand still for Taehyung as he watched Jungkook, whose soaked shirt clung to him, painting him as a creature made wholly of rain. Taehyung didn’t realize he'd been staring until Jungkook caught his eye, cheeks aflame.
"I-Is something wr-wrong?" Jungkook’s words stumbled out, nervousness crept within.
Shaken from his reverie, Taehyung stepped closer, rain trailing down his own cheeks like tears of mirth. "No, nothing’s wrong. It’s just... this is really beautiful, you know? The rain, this moment… you."
Taehyung’s gaze was steady, his eyes holding a twinkling mirth as he regarded Jungkook, who was still recovering from what Taehyung said moments ago, so casually yet so honestly, sending a surge of warmth through Jungkook's veins.
Flustered, Jungkook's cheeks flared with a rosy tint. He was unaccustomed to such direct praise, and from Taehyung it felt like a jolt to his heart. "I, umm..." he stumbled over the words.
"Let's play a game," Taehyung broke into his stuttering, his voice light.
Jungkook’s eyes widened inquisitively. “W-wha-at ga-ame?”
Taehyung leaned in. "A chase game. One where we can run free, with no rules but to catch or be caught. I think it’d be fun, wouldn't it?"
Confusion wavered in Jungkook’s gaze before melting into a hesitant smile. “Okay,” he surrendered with a nod,
Moments later, they were darting between the trees, laughter spilling from their lips. Taehyung would reach out, fingers brushing against Jungkook's arm before he'd dash away with nimble feet, challenging Jungkook to catch him.
The leaves rustled with their movement, the air was full of their joy.
Amidst hearty giggles and playful shouts, they forgot the world, existing only in the endless loop of chase and escape. "You can't catch me!" Taehyung teased, his voice musical amongst their footsteps.
“I'l-ll g-get yo-ou, Taeh-hyu-ung!” Jungkook said back, his voice breathless.
After their playful time had waned, Taehyung felt the chill seeping into his bones, he said to Jungkook, "Let's head back to the car now, it's getting colder."
Jungkook, his cheeks tinged red from the frigid air and excitement, simply nodded. Inside the car, the cold leather of the seats greeted them with a shiver.
With a soft thud, Taehyung placed a bag between them. His fingers, slightly numb, fumbled through the contents before pulling out a towel and handing it to Jungkook. “D-Do y-you bri-ing tow-wels w-wit-th yo-ou?” Jungkook asked, a mixture of amusement and awe lacing his voice.
"Sometimes," Taehyung said, a lopsided smile on his lips. "Now hurry and dry your hair, or you'll catch a cold."
Jungkook obeyed, rubbing the terrycloth through his dark locks vigorously. Taehyung, meanwhile, couldn't help but stare shamelessly,
There was something raw and serene about Jungkook, his head bent forward, droplets scattering like stars fallen too close to Earth.
"Don't you have to dry yours?" Jungkook's voice pulled Taehyung from his reverie.
"I will," Taehyung replied casually, "after you."
A moment later, Jungkook handed back the towel, his hair still damp and tousled. Taehyung leaned in closer. "Your hair isn’t properly dried, wait—let me do them."
Without waiting for a response, Taehyung gently took hold of Jungkook's shoulders, angling him just right. The towel was soft in his hands as he dabbed and massaged Jungkook's scalp, moving expertly.
"Is this okay?" Taehyung murmured, his breath warm against Jungkook's ear.
"Mmhmm," Jungkook hummed, his eyes fluttering closed under the tender ministrations.
Taehyung's fingers brushed through Jungkook's hair, gently untangling the knots. The towel moved away, and now his fingers alone, warm and firm, traced paths over Jungkook's scalp, pressing here, circling there.
Jungkook leaned back, the sensation engulfing him.
The damp hair now fluffed and framing Jungkook's face in a way that felt intimate and right.
"There," Taehyung spoke softly, "Perfect."
Taehyung leaned forward, his gaze unwavering as he placed a long, comforting kiss on Jungkook's forehead. His lips lingered for a moment, the unspoken tenderness bridging the distance between them.
"Let's go," Taehyung said softly, his voice a gentle reassurance. "We should head back."
Jungkook's eyes widened slightly, a tinge of red painting his cheeks as he froze in place, his heart racing. It seemed as though time slowed around them.
