THIRTY FIVE
'You don't understand, we can't wait another month!' Gemma roared. 'We need to go now!'
'We cannot simply go and storm the Hargreaves' manor without reason,' Dumbledore said calmly.
'There is a reason!'
'What is it?' Sturgis said sceptically.
'I just said I can't fucking tell you!' She yelled.
'Gemma!' Her mother said, surprised. 'Please, watch your tone!'
As soon as she'd heard what had taken place from Snyde, and promised Gage she wouldn't tell anyone about the mark, she'd immediately sent a letter to Dumbledore saying they needed to meet urgently, the only thing on her mind was Regulus' safety. Less than an hour later, here she was, in the Order's headquarters.
She willed herself to be calm, and sucked in a deep breath. She hadn't wanted to use what she was about to say, but in that moment she was willing to do anything if it meant seeing that Regulus was okay and safe.
'I have... news,' she said carefully. 'That Voldemort has recently recruited someone... special. An occlumens.' It was like flipping a switch. Genevieve gasped and Sturgis dropped the pen he was flipping around. Dumbledore remained as passive as ever, but a hint of concern was evident on his face.
'And where did you find this information?' He asked darkly.
'I won't tell you,' she said bluntly.
'Then how can we trust you?' Genevieve pointed out. Really, mother?
'Your the one who wanted me to join because of my Slytherinness, a.k.a knowing what's going on on the other side. So I guess you'll just have to.'
Genevieve and Dumbledore exchanged a glance. They seemed to be silently discussing their options.
'There's a way to get in,' Sturgis said suddenly. 'But only tonight, so we have to decide quickly.
'Proceed,' Dumbledore said impatiently.
'A ball is taking place. Goddamn show- offs those purebloods, its absolutely pointless, but it could be a good excuse for us to search the manor.'
'We could find out who the occlumens is,' Genevieve realised. 'And eliminate him.'
'Eliminate?' Gemma repeated. 'What do you mean eliminate?'
'An occlumens is a threat to everything we have,' her mother told her. 'If he knows occlumency, it won't be long before he learns legilimency. What then? Nothing would be a secret from the Dark Lord anymore, Gemma.'
'But- but Voldemort is a legilimens.'
'And we are very unlikely to come into contact with him. His Death Eaters, however...'
'That doesn't mean we have to kill her!'
'Her?' Dumbledore said suspiciously. 'You are aware of who it is?'
'No,' Gemma lied. 'I just- how do you know its a him? Bit presumptuous, no?'
'Very well,' Dumbledore said, still looking at her, clearly not convinced, 'Sturgis and Gemma, you shall go tomorrow night and accomplish what you can. Dorcas is currently busy, so she will not be accompanying you.' His blue eyes seemed to pierce through Gemma. 'I hope you find what you are truly looking for.'
He stood and left the room, and Sturgis left too. Gemma was about to follow when Genevieve grabbed her arm.
'Gemme, attends. Comment ça va?' Her mother tried.
'I'm grand,' Gemma replied in English. 'But I need to go and plan this mission with Sturgis.'
'Je sui- I am proud of you,' Genevieve said, emotion evident in her voice. 'I'm proud of everything you are, the person you have become.'
'Thanks,' Gemma replied hollowly.
'I- we- we've barely spent any of your life together-'
'And who's fault is that?' Gemma said harshly. Genevieve flinched, and Gemma ran a hand through her hair. She did not have time for this. 'Listen, mum, we can play catch-up-I'm-sorry-I-love-you later, okay? I have a lot on my mind right now.' Genevieve looked like she was about to say something, but just nodded, and Gemma went to find Sturgis. He was sitting at his desk, writing notes on a piece of paper.
'Hi,' She said rather sullenly. He looked up and flashed her a dazzling smile.
'You sound happy,' he said cheerily.
'So do you,' she replied wearily. 'Why?'
'I haven't been anywhere in weeks,' he said, grinning. 'All paperwork and recruiting. This though... we're going into the belly of the goddamn beast!'
'I wish I was as excited as you,' she sighed.
'Yeah, but I'm shit at this planning stuff,' he said, scratching his head. 'This is why we need Dorco.'
'Where is she anyway? I swear she left for Christmas too.'
'Researching something big,' he replied darkly. 'Some sort of breakout, from Azkaban.'
'Break out?' She questioned. 'I thought we were the good guys.'
'In black and white. If you start looking into it, things get a bit more complicated.' Sturgis turned back to the paper he was scribbling on, and she was about to leave when he gave an exasperated sigh.
'What's wrong?'
'I can't figure out how we'll get in to the manor,' he grumbled. 'The Hargreaves have all sorts of wards up for the likes of us.' His narrowed eyes at her as he thought of an idea, 'how familiar are you with the Hargreaves girl?' She blinked.
'What?'
'They have a daughter, right? She's in your year?'
'She's in the year above me, actually, but-'
'Well? Have you spoken to her before?'
'Nope,' Gemma said, staring at the ceiling. Sturgis narrowed his eyes.
'We better hope you never get caught, because god you are an awful liar.'
'Wait,' she said, a sudden idea hitting her. 'What- what about polyjuice potion?'
'I thought of that,' Sturgis admitted. 'But it takes at least a month to make, and we don't exactly have that much time.'
'My friend has some,' she said excitedly. 'From when we brewed it at the beginning of the year.'
'Why were you brewing polyjuice potion?' He asked suspiciously. She rolled her eyes.
'You just worry about getting hair from some rich people, okay? Getting some hair and looking pretty.'

Gemma stared at herself in the mirror. She was twenty- two year old Rosa Kelderman now, and she had to admit, the name fit the look. She'd done her ebony hair in a long braid, and she'd stolen a corset and dress from Iz's mother. Her eyes were a shade of hazel, and Gemma sighed longingly. She never thought much about her looks, but she seriously wished she was this beautiful.
Sturgis walked in as some guy around the same age as her, but his nose was far too big for his face and his hair was gelled back displeasingly.
'Why do you get an upgrade and I get a downgrade?' He complained when he saw her. She laughed.
'Who said you got a downgrade? I think you look much better,' she teased. He rolled his eyes.
'What did you tell your friends?' He asked. She shrugged.
'Told them I was visiting my mum. They were surprised, but fine when I said I'd be back for my birthday.'
Dumbledore walked into the room, and inspecting them.
'I hope you both realise the risks accompanying this,' he said darkly. 'I don't want to send you... especially with what's been going on...'
'What's been going on?' Gemma asked curiously.
'Attacks on muggles,' he said, shaking his head. 'They're becoming more and more active.'
'Which is why we need to take 'em down quickly,' Sturgis concluded. 'Relax, Albus, we'll be back in a jiffy.'
'Which reminds me,' Dumbledore said. He handed Gemma a galleon. 'This is to send a distress call to the other member of your group, if you are in trouble.'
'Nice,' she said, eyeing it with awe.
'Don't go spending it,' Sturgis said. He looked at Dumbledore. 'She's broke,' he explained.
'Ah, shut up.'
