It came from that time  Melody kissed Ash, right?

Of course it did.

Uh, so I find this ship kind of cute? I can see where it came from and I can't help but want to support it, but at the same time, I don't really see how this ship could work.

I just find it one of those one off shippings which never really come into your mind when you think - Hmm, who should we ship Ash with? *Ahem. Serena? Dawn? May? Misty? Iris?*

But, hey, this is my opinion.
