I still had no idea how I was going to get JJ out. Once I reached the station. I saw Peterkin. "If your looking for JJ, he won't be out for a while." She said and I took a seat.

"How long?" I asked her.

"That's up to him." She said and she headed inside of a room. I sat and waited. When I saw Mr. Maybank come in. He went to the desk. I waited for JJ still.

"You his guardian?" The officer behind the desk ask and JJ came out. I stood up and went over to him. Taking his hand.

"Sorry to say, I'm his father." Mr. Maybank said to the officer. I hugged JJ.

"I'm glad you're okay." I said to him and I kissed his cheek.

"I need to tell you something once we're out of here." He whispered to me before we pulled apart. I was worried now.

"Well, hearing will be in two weeks. If you fail to show up, you will forfeit your bail. The restitution will be based on the average of three outside estimates of the cost of the damaged article." She said to JJ's dad.

"Restitution?" Mr. Maybank asked her and I wanted to know more as well.

"Pay for what he broke. It's part of the plea. Yeah, and...sigh right here, please." She said and that's when I saw him sign the paper.

"Get the others together. I'll call you later." JJ whispered to me and I nodded before going. I knew why he wanted me gone.

"Let's go. Go now!" I heard Mr. Maybank say. That's when I started walking to The Wreck. I had my shift to do and not only that. I was hoping Kie was there. She wasn't, I worked my first shift before trying to find the others. I decided to see if JJ was home. When I got there I saw JJ had the gun pointed at his dad.

"JJ, put it down." I said to him and he lowered the gun before hugging me and crying.

"I can't stay here." He said to me and cried.

"Let's go elsewhere. They'll be somewhere." I said to him and he pulled away. I then saw the new bruises and cuts on his face. His dad had beaten him. That's when the two of us headed outside to his bike. He went to the only place he could think of. John B's.

"Who's that?" I asked JJ and I saw a car at the top of the road. He looked and saw it.

"I don't know but they might be looking for John B." He said to me in a whisper. This must be what he needed to tell me. When we saw John B come home. JJ snuck over to him and he ended up getting tackled to the ground. I headed over to them.

"It's me, JJ. Stop, stop, stop, stop." John said to him.

"Fuck." JJ got out.

"What are you doing?" John B asked him.

"John B, quiet." I said to him and he looked at me.

"Shut up." JJ said and we heard the car door close. We then stood up and showed John B the car. "See that? They're watching us, okay?" JJ asked him and we weren't safe at all.

"Who?" John B asked him.

"I don't know. Let's go. Sneak around to the dock. Gotta go this way." JJ said and we started heading around to the dock. We had to go the long way. "Wait, wait, wait, wait. You got the keys to the Pogue?" JJ asked him and I was hoping he did.

"Please say you do." I said to John B.

"Yeah, I do." John B said and we kept walking before we had to take a swim. Our bags on our head. Once we'd made it to the boat. I was glad.

"John, hurry up. Come on, come on, come on." JJ said and we untied the boat from the dock. Whoever was in that car, had no idea we'd gone.

"At least we're gone and away now." I said with a sigh of relief. Once we'd made it to safety. The three of us sat together.

"First, I almost get strangled to death by Kooks, and now I'm on the hook for 30 grand. We should just dip." JJ said to us and I looked at him.

"You say where and I'll definitely go with you." I said with a smile on my face.

"Okay, where do you wanna go? Hm?" John B asked him and I looked at JJ.

"Yucatan." JJ said and I wasn't expecting that.

"Yucatan." John and I repeated.

"No, I'm dead serious right now. Surf all day, and then we can just live off lobsters we catch with our bare hands." JJ said and when he put it that way. It sounded like heaven.

"You just wanna leave 'cause you got your ass beat?" John asked him, and it was a good enough reason to leave. Especially since he'd be away from his dad.

"You didn't see the photos." JJ said and I'm glad that I didn't.

"Think about it. They're willing to kill for the gold, then it's gotta be out there." John said to us and I looked at him.

"It it even worth our lives getting risked for the gold. Especially with what JJ's saying." I said and I looked at John. I was hoping he'd be with us.

"Have you lost your mind? One hundred years, man. One hundred years, people have been tryin' to find this Royal Merchant, and no one succeeded. And you think you are gonna be the one that actually finds it? When will you get it in your thick skull? If you keep goin' down this road, you're gonna end up just like your dad!" JJ shouted at John B and that's when JJ was pushed. I just sat where I was.

"I can't give up, JJ! The last time I saw that dude, we got in an argument, and then he took all of our rent money and dipped for this Royal Merchant. And then I told him he was a shit father, and you know how the rest of the story goes." John said to us and I knew that this was important to him.

"Bro, that wasn't your fault." JJ said to him and he never would be.

"It doesn't matter whose fault it is, JJ! Do you not understand that? I can't give up on the hunt, man. I don't care who's out there, who's gonna try to kill us. Do you understand that? You know that." John B said and he started walking away. I looked at JJ and then at John. "Look, I've got a plan. You both comin' or what?" He asked and looked at JJ. He wasn't moving. "Five hundred million, JJ and Y/n. How much do you owe in restitution?" John asked him and I knew that would be the turning point.

"JJ, you've got no other choice." I said to him and he looked at me. He knew that would be the only way to pay it. The only play we had was to infiltrate the event tonight. Midsummer. Once we got to the club. I was all set to go.

"Ready?" JJ asked us both.

"I think so." I said to him.

"Can you believe this Midsummer shit, man?" John asked us and I did. Just another rich person party.

"Of course I can. Happens every year. No matter how screwed up the rest of us are. So, like, what's the plan, exactly?" JJ said as we stated walking away.

"Okay, look, I need you to get this to Sarah." John said and he passed him a note.

"Ooh! Can I read it?" JJ asked and I looked at the paper.

"So, we're passing notes now?" I asked him, when did him and Sarah get so close.

"No, you can't read it. This is the only note." John said to the two of us.

"Who's Vlad?" JJ asked as he read the note.

"God, do you ever listen?" John asked us and I started reading the note. No we didn't listen.

"Hold up. Are you mackin' Sarah Cameron?" JJ asked and I looked at John.

"Now, that would be a huge plot twist." I said to him and JJ.

"Would you both shut up?" John asked the two of us. That just confirmed it.

"You're macking Sarah Cameron!" JJ and I said at the same time.

"All right, man. I'm doin' it for everybody, all right? What?" John asked us and we didn't say anything.

"Nothin'. Thanks for bein' a team player, bro." JJ said and hopefully he could get the information he needed from her.

"Yeah, well...you know could just hold still." John said to JJ and he did his tie for him.

"So I just give that to Sarah? Huh?" JJ asked, understanding his job.

"Yes, just give it to Sarah. Hold steady." John said to him and I watched the two of them.

"Vlad. Really?" JJ asked and that's when I saw what John had spotted. He'd seen the gun.

"Are you kidding me?" He asked and he picked the gun up.

"No, I'm not kidding you." JJ said and it was for protection.

"If you get caught, you're goin' to jail." John said to him and I was hoping that wouldn't happen.

"Fine, but if I get ambushed, it's on you." JJ said and I looked at him.

"It'll be okay. No one's getting caught." I said to them both. Once JJ was ready. He headed off.

"Are you two mackin'?" John asked and I looked at him.

"What gives you that impression?" I asked him and he looked at me.

"Oh, nothing. I don't know maybe how you went after him when he got arrested." He said to me and I looked at him.

"You mackin' Sarah Cameron." I said to him and he looked away.

"I'm walking away now." He said to me and I stayed at the boat. I was going to be lookout. That's when I saw the whole group come over. We all got on the boat and got the hell out of there.

"Hey, guys. So, like, my dad's already gonna kill me. So what's this mandatory meeting about?" Pope asked us and I looked at JJ.

"Might as well tell him, man, before we're gaffed." JJ said and I looked at John.

"You ready for this?" John asked us all.

"Yeah." Kie said and I looked at John.

"Take it away, John B." I said to him with a smile on my face.

"So, the gold never went down with the Royal Merchant." John said to us all and I looked around at the others.

"Oh, my god. Here we go again with this." Pope said to us all, he thought we were crazy.

"No. All right, wait. Hear him out, all right?" JJ said to him and we all looked back over at JJ.

"It's been here the whole time. It's on the island." John said to us all and I saw Kie's reaction.

"Are you serious? Oh, my god." Kie said to us all.

"I'd like to voice my skepticism." Pope said to us and of course he would.

"I'm sure you would, Pope, but can I please present you with my evidence, sir?" John asked him and Pope looked at him.

"Proceed." Pope said and now it was time for the evidence.

"All right. So, in my backpack, I have a letter from Denmark Tanny." John said to us and I had no idea who that was.

"Who the hell's that?" Kie asked him, at least I wasn't the only one.

"Denmark Tanny was a slave that survived the Royal Merchant wreck. Check this out." John B said to us and he opened up a piece of paper he was holding.

"What?" Kie asked and the paper was handed to her.

"Here you go. Okay, slaves weren't mentioned as crew members on the ship, but my dad, he found the complete manifest. That was his big discovery. So Tanny used the gold from the Merchant to buy his freedom. After that, he bought his farm. Drumroll, please, because that farm is...Tannyhill Plantation." John said and the paper was passed around to us all.

"Tannyhill?" Kie asked us all.

"Yeah. So, after that, he used his money to feee even more slaves, and then he sold a shit-ton of rice, which pisses off all the white planters, and then they decide to lynch him. So on the day they were coming to get him, he writes a letter to his son as a farewell, and in the last line of that letter, he leaves a coded message about where to find the gold." John said to us and it was almost like he was telling us all a story.

"Where?" Kie asked with a smile.

"Harvest the wheat in parcel nine, near the water. Except...there's no wheat. You see, wheat is code for gold. Check this out. The gold is in parcel nine, near the water." John said to us and Kie started to laugh.

"Holy shit." Pope said to us all.

"All we need is an original survey map of the property, and we've found the gold." John said to us all.

Okay, so this might have a small chance of being true." Pope said and that's when JJ went over to John.

"Dude, it's like King Tut." Kie said to us and I looked at us all.

"We are going to be so rich." I said to them with a small laugh.

"I am a genius, hey, whoa! Hello! Fire! You're near the fire. You're gonna burn." John said as JJ picked up before putting him back down again.

"I'm so proud of you right now." JJ said to him and I was as well.

"Thank you. That's really sweet of you." John said and he placed a hand on JJ's face.

"Okay, so, guys. What's the plan?" Pope asked and I looked at John.

"Good question. So, Sarah Cameron's coming tonight. She'll bring an original survey map- -" John said and that's when he was cut off.

"Wait, wait. Hold on. Sarah? Wh-why Sarah?" Kie asked and she wasn't going to like this.

"Um...this is gonna be good." JJ said to us all and it was.

"Sarah, um, she- -she got me into the archives in Chapel Hill yesterday, and that's where I got the letter." John said to her and I looked over at JJ.

"You were in Chapel Hill with Sarah Cameron?" Kie asked him, she was pissed.

"Yeah, um- -" John B started before JJ cut him off.

"He was mackin' on her." JJ said to them and I looked at them.

"And it's so easy to tell as well." I said to them both.

"I wasn't macking." John B said to us but he was.

"You were totally macking Sarah Cameron." JJ said to him, if John B was going to try and tell us anything else. He'd be lying to himself.

"I wasn't macking on her, okay? I was using her for access." John B said to us and he was lying to himself.

"There was access, all right." JJ said and I let out a smile.

"Did you tell her about the treasure?" Kie asked him and he must have.

"I was trying to get into the archives." John said to us and he didn't deny it.

"Is that a yes?" Kie asked him, he definitely told her.

"I- -I left out key details." He said to us, but was the money one of them.

"Yo, what? You let a Kook in on our secret? What about Pogue Lyfe? What about the T-shift company, bro?" Kie asked him and clearly it didn't matter.

"I was just using her for information." John said to us and it wasn't just that.

"Why don't I believe you?" She asked him and I stood up and went to JJ.

"I'm trying to make us filthy rich here. Okay, so that we can pay off a boat, or- -or, uh...send you to autopsy school to study dead bodies. Look, you guys know me. Do I look like the type of person to fall for Sarah Cameron?" He asked us and I started nodding.

"Um, yeah." I said to him.

"Do you want us to answer that, or- -" Pope asked, at least he knew as well.

"Just- -just stop." John said to us and he'd been caught out.

"Look, you don't know her yet. I do! You can't trust her." Kie said to us and I believe her. I wouldn't trust any of the Cameron's.

"Her brother did hit me in the back with a golf club." Pope said to us.

"Rafe and Sarah are different human beings." John said to us. They may be. But both of them weren't trust worthy.

"What did she do to you, exactly?" JJ asked Kie, she'd never actually told us.

"She's like a- -like a spitting cobra. First, she- -she blinds you, and then- -" Kie started and it wasn't working on her favor.

"This is a bad analogy." Pope said and I nodded in agreement.

"Listen to me! Whatever we get, she's gonna try to take." Kie said to us and that wasn't going to happen. I wouldn't let it. We all got to the Twinkie and that's when John B started driving us to where he was meeting up with Sarah.

"All right." John B said to us as he stopped.

"Hit it, boys! We're goin'. Recon mission." JJ said and that's when John looked at him.

'Yo, uh...so, uh, I think I'm gonna do this one by myself...tonight." He said to us and I heard the thunder rumble.

"Really?" JJ asked him and he took his cap off.

"What?" John asked him.

"Nothin'." JJ said to him, and there was something bothering him.

"I don't want to spook Sarah with the peanut gallery." John said to us and that was fair.

"I just don't understand why we're involving her at all." Kie said to him and I didn't.

"I don't understand either." I said to them all.

"Kie, Y/n, we're not involving her, okay? It's- -it's just, uh like a- -a business meeting...thing. Look, once we get what we need, we cut her loose, all right? Plus, we need the map." John said to us and we did need the map.

"Promise me nothings happening between you two." She said to him and he looked at her.

"Nothing is happening, Kie." John said to her and I didn't believe him.

"I'm being serious." Kie said to him.

"Okay!" He said to her.

"This isn't about you, and this isn't about us. This is about her. Dude, she's gonna get inside your head. Just promise me nothings happening between you guys." Kie said to him, thunder still rumbling in the distance.

"I promise." He said to her.

"That's was really believable." JJ said and I looked at him. Then back at John.

"Yeah, I totally believe that." I said to him with a smile and a nod.

"A hundred percent believable." Pope said to us, none of us were believing him.

"Anyway, um...I'm gonna take care of business." John said and that's when he started to leave.

"You're gonna take care of it." JJ said to him and I smiled.

"I tell you. We'll just sit here in the hot-ass car. While it's lightning." Pope said to John as he got out the Twinkie.

"Yeah. Yeah." John kept saying to us. That's when we heard another rumble. Before the crash of thunder.

"Kiara, holding onto your grudge is like drinking poison and thinking Sarah will die." Pope said to us and I looked at nodded.

"Exactly." JJ said and I looked at her.

"Maybe it's time to I don't know. Put it behind. Leave it in the past." I said to her and she gave me a look. That definitely wouldn't be happening. That's when we all started talking.

"Rafe and Kelce followed me- -" JJ started and that's when I heard something.

"Wait, do you guys hear that? Sh." Kie asked and I'm glad I'm not the only one.

"I thought I was the only one that heard that." I said to her. That's when there was another crash of thunder.

"What?" Pope and JJ asked. That's when we heard it again.

"Please, somebody help!" We heard Sarah shout.

"That's Sarah." I said to them all. John B was with her.

"Oh, wait, no, I hear that." JJ said and that's when we all started getting out the Twinkie.

"Shit." Pope said to us all.

"What the fuck?" Kie said and that's when we all got out running. That's when I saw John B on the ground.

"Oh, shit! John B!" I shouted and I ran closer.

"Sarah! What happened?" Pope asked as we got closer.

"I don't know what to do. He needs help. Topper shoved him." Sarah said to us, Topper needed to pay for this.

"Where the hell is he?" JJ asked and he'd be a dead man if we found him.

"Oh, please, please, please get help. I don't care who. Just call someone." Sarah said to us, she cared about John B. I could tell by the tears.

"Go. Go!" JJ shouted at Pope. He then ran back.

"Help, please." Sarah said to us and I looked at her.

"Sarah, we'll get help." I said to her reassuringly. Nothing could happen to John B.

"Pope, hurry!" Kie yelled at him.

"John B, stay with me." Sarah said and she kissed him. "Please don't leave me. John B?" Sarah said and she just held him. He had to be okay.

"Pope! Come on!" JJ shouted at him. I was glad when help came. He was taken to St. Olives. Sarah was with him. It didn't surprise me at all.
