chapter 32

HARLEY SAT IN THE CORNER, HER SWITCHBLADE IN HAND.

She watched as everyone created their own weaposn from what they could find in the nearly empty train car.

Everyone was discussing amongst themselves. It was too dark to read their lips, but since Nora didn't translate for her, she assumed it wasn't important. Daryl came over to make sure she was okay before going to take watch, the light from between the train car door illuminating his face.

She stared at the black eye that stood out on his tanned skin.

It was a miracle that they found each other. A one in million chance, and now, they found more members of their group from the prison.

In the past, Nora and Harley were never able to find members of their old groups. They always assumed they perrished after getting raided by the dead.

"All right, got four of them pricks coming our way." Daryl spoke, and Nora went over to Harley before signing to her to get ready.

The redhead stood, gripping her knife. Daryl shifted to stand in front of her, but Harley wasn't sure if he could protect her if things went down, which would inevitably happen.

"Y'all know what to do." Rick stated, moving over to the door, "Go for their eyes first. Than their throats."

Nora translated it for Harley before raising her fists, ready to throw punches to whoever came for her first.

"Put your backs to the walls on either side of the car now." A voice demanded from outside the train car,

No one listened. They surrounded the door, prepared to attack.

But the people of Terminus have done this many times, and were expecting their resistance. Which is why they sent someone onto the roof.

They people in the train car were not expecting that. A hatch opened, filling the train car with sunlight. Nora blocked the rays from burning her eyes, and she heard a 'clunk'.

On the floor of the container laid a smoke grenade.

Abraham shouted for everyone to move as a flash went off. Daryl grabbed Harley, covering her ears to protect her from the sound.

Her heart raced as smoke filled the train car. Then she felt Daryl get ripped away from her,

"Daryl!" She cried out, hoping it was loud enough for him to hear,

Nora kept her back to the train car, trying to see in front of her. She heard Carl call out for his father, and found him to her right,

"I'm here." She told the teenager before hands grabbed her shoulder.

Nora swung around, fists raised. She connected to what she thinks was a chest, but her strength disappeared as her head was pushed into the metal wall.

She blinked, trying to regain her focus as she was dragged from the train car and shoved onto her stomach on the concrete. They tied her hands behind her back and shoved a rag between her teeth, knotting it at the back of her head to keep her from speaking.

Nora glanced over to her left and saw Rick being dragged to his feet. It wasn't long before she was forced to do the same, along with Glenn, Daryl, and Bob.

She didn't fight them, not wanting to give them a reason to harm her group members.

They dragged the five of them into a room, a draining tub sitting in the middle of it. Of to the side were tables with weapons on them,

On another table was a body, with men standing above it, their aprons stained with blood splatters.

Nora let out a grunt as she was forced onto knees between Rick and Bob. On Rick's other side, Daryl and Glenn were placed. Past them were some other men who must've been in other train cars.

Her heart rate went up as one of the aproned men began to sharpen his knife. The other one stood behind them, swinging his metal bat slowly as if he was warming up.

She made eye contact with Rick, and he gave her a subtle nod.

She was confident that he could get them out of this situation.

The men started on the other side of the basin. Nora's gasp got stuck in her throat as the man at the end of the lineup got hit in the back of the head with the bat, before his throat was slit.

The other men began to scream behind their gags. Nora kept her eyes down, staring at the bottom of the basin that soon filled with red.

But the sound of a familiar voice filled her ears, and she lifted her head to glare at the man who led this tyranny. Gareth was going on about shot counts, and before he could leave, Bob tried to get his attention.

"Hey!" He called out from behind his gag, "Hey, let me talk to you."

"Five from A, four from D?" Gareth asked, writing in his little notebook,

"Yeah."

"Hey, let me talk to you for a minute. Let me talk to you for a minute."

Gareth ripped the gag from his mouth with a sigh, "What?"

"Don't do this." Bob begged, "We can fix this."

"No, you can't." Gareth went to put the gag back on but Bob kept speaking,

"You don't have to do this. We told you there's a way out of all this. You just have to take a chance." Bob tried to persuade him, while Gareth kept writing in his little notebook, "We have a man who knows how to stop it. He has a cure. We just have to get him to Washington." Gareth rolled his eyes, "You don't have to do this, man. We can put the world back to how it was."

"Can't go back, Bob." Gareth stuffed the gag back into his mouth before turning to Rick, kneeling down in front of his and taking his gag out so he could speak, "We saw you go into the woods with a bag and come out without it. Had to pull my spotters back before we could go look for it. What was in it?" Rick didn't answer him at first, just gave him a deadly glare, "You hid it, right? In case things went bad? Smart. Still, we'll find it. But it's too dangerous to go out there right now."

Gareth grabbed a small dagger from his waistband before grabbing Nora by the back of her head, forcing her forward. She tried to pull away, but he grabbed her by the ponytail and tugged on it hard before holding the blade dangerously close to her eye, "What was in it?"

Nora didn't panic. Instead, she stared up at Gareth, staring at his with a hard gaze.

Gareth looked away from her and back to Rick, "I'm curious. And it was a big bag." Rick stayed silent and Gareth rolled his eyes, "You really gonna let me do this?"

"Well, let me take you out there. I'll show you." Rick spoke, a certain calmness to his voice that kept Nora from getting nervous.

He was gonna get them out of this.

"Not gonna happen. This might." Gareth brought the tip of the blade closer to Nora's eye,

"There's gun in it." Rick answered, "AK-47. 44 Magnum. Automatic weapons. Nightscope. There's a compound bow and a machete with a red handle." He listed off, "That's what I'm gonna use to kill you."

Gareth chuckled before letting go of Nora, putting the knife away before moving to put the gag back in Rick's mouth, "Thanks." He patted Rick's shoulders before standing and turning to his fellow community members, "You have two hours to get them on the driers. I'm gonna go back to public face. Now's the time we can get messy, but we need to dial it all in by sundown."

"Yes, sir."

Gareth went to leave but everyone paused at the sound of gunshots. He grabbed his radio and held it up to his lips, "Hey, Chuck?"

An explosion went off and the building shook. Nora got knocked around, bumping into Rick's shoulder before trying to stabilise herself.

Gareth left to figure out what was going on while the two butchers began to panic. More gunshots filled the air as they paced with panic,

"You there, Gareth?" One of them asked into the radio,

"He's busy." The other one responded,

While they were distracted, Nora began tugging at her restraints. The knots were tight, and were rubbing her skin raw, but she knew this was their chance to escape.

Rick had a stake that he had made back in the train car hidden in his boot, which he had taken out to cut through the ropes.

Their backs were turned and Rick took the moment to strike. He stood silently, walking over to the closest man before stabbing him in the neck, taking him out instantly,

The other man watched his friend get slaughtered and began to back away in fear, "No, no, no, no, no!"

Nora watched with wide eyes as Rick backed the man against a table, stabbing his torso over and over until he stopped moving.

He stood, staring at the body on the table before Glenn broke him from his trance, "Rick!"

Rick went to Nora, untying her first before the both of them went to the others, "If they got problems, we got a chance."

"It sounded like a bomb." Glenn stated as he ripped the gag from his neck,

"Sounds like a damn war." They all went over to a table, searching for weapons,

Nora grabbed a kitchen knife from the table and went over to one of the men, planning on stabbing in the head to put them down before they turned,

"What the hell are these people?" Bob questioned,

"They ain't people." Daryl growled,

"Don't." Rick stopped her from stabbing the man in the head, "Let him turn. Cross any of these people, you kill them. Don't hesitate." The two of them made eye contact,

"Because they won't."
