Chapter 49: The Lights Will Take You Home
X • Balz's POV • X
He looked like Devin, had the same cold eyes, but something about the man at the end of the path didn't feel like my old friend. I remembered what Chris said, about tricksters. So I took the liberality of reading his mind, though I rarely would read Devin's thoughts. Luckily my instinict was more than right.
I saw the rage-filled tendencies boiling inside his mind. Instantly, I pushed TJ out of the way, and pulled Ryan to the ground to avoid the impending blow. Seconds after, the imposter landed where we had just been standing. He pulled his hatchet from the ground with a groan.
"That isn't Devin." I told Ryan. "Don't let his exterior get to you. Attack him like the monster he truly is."
TJ didn't hesitate. He jumped on the creature's back like a monkey. The two struggled while Ryan and I gained our footing again. Ryan placed his hand on the copy cat's arm, then he backed up with a look of horror on his face.
"I can't drain him. He has no energy signature." He said. "The only thing that does that is hallucinations. We all three couldn't be imagining him."
"You can't touch a hallucinations either." I replied.
He threw TJ off his back, then started coming for me with his axe. I raised my hands, catching the handle. The blade was literally an inch away from my face. TJ formed an energy dagger, stabbing the creature in the back. The loose energy disappeared as the false phantom fell to the ground. He didn't even bleed.
"What the fuck?" TJ scoffed.
I kneeled down to the body. "There's brain signals but, no life, if that makes sense."
"I purposely stabbed him somewhere that he wouldn't die, so you can figure out what the Hell he is." He added.
"A nightmare." I replied. "My worst fears come to light. Devin's many personalities have manifested their own forms. This means his mind is much further gone than I thought."
"That also means the tranny is around here." TJ joked.
"And... The viking." Ryan shook in his skin as he said that.
I sighed and stood up straight. Then I grabbed the sai from my waistband and quickly plunged it into the heart of the hatchet wielder. His body dissipated, and we saw a small orb of light form. It flew off somewhere.
"TJ, go tell the others." I said. "Let them know to kill the other personalities and follow the lights that come out of them. They'll lead us to Devin."

We were walking and talking, finally getting caught up on what we've been through since our parting five years ago. God, I missed this man. He is truly amazing. I say that in a brotherly way, not a lover way. That life has been put to rest.
TJ suddenly appeared in front of us. We both jumped for a moment, until we realized it was him.
"Did you find Devin?" I asked, hopeful.
"I wish, but this will help us find him. His personalities are manifesting into their own. Balz said to kill them, and a little light thing comes out of the dead bodies. Follow the lights. They'll lead you to the real Devin." He explained.
Angelo pulled on my shoulder, pointing to a shadow around the corner. "I think we just found one."
TJ glanced behind himself, then towards us. "I'll let you deal with that." And then the asshole teleported away... fucker!
That was so TJ though. I know he had to get back to the others. I've seen many of Devin's personalities, and most honestly scare me. Angelo must've been thinking similar to me, because he was just a weary of approaching the shadow we saw.
I could see a very Sweeney Todd looking version of Devin. He wasn't hostile towards us at all. His back was turned towards us as he slowly walked down the path, with his hand dragging along the wall. This was his lost side I assume. Not depressed, that one was different. Lost.
Angelo quietly walked up behind him. He covered the creature's mouth as he pushed a dagger into his back. The entity took in a sharp breath, but it was over quickly. Dust and ash is all the body became, along with that light they had mentioned it.
We tried our best to follow it, but it started going through walls. We don't have that luxury. So, I see we're left to wonder some more until we find either another fragment, or Devin himself. It did seem like this maze went on forever!
It must've been about twenty more minutes of walking until we found another one. Oh for fuck's sake, this one. Sitting on top of the wall, we saw a rather thin version of Devin. The hair was shorter than normal, with blond streaks, and the makeup very girly. Gothic, but girly, along with the skimpy clothes. I'm avoiding using terms like she and he, because I've never known the proper way to address the slut side.
The figure jumped down, landing like a girl, and following the same manor as it walked towards us. It's eyes scanned me like it was a wolf, and I was a piece of meat. In case you can't tell from my dating history, this wasn't my type! Apparently I was... erm, her... his... whatever's type.
"Hello." The creature purred, to me more specificly.
Angelo was getting a kick out of this, so he wasn't doing a fucking thing! I was waiting for him to go grab some popcorn at this point. The fem Devin grabbed me by my shirt and pulled me into a kiss. Of course I didn't kiss back, but I let it happen because it was a distraction. I pulled my dagger from my waistband and pushed it into the creature's stomach.
It stumbled back, giving me a dying look. Then, fell into dust upon the ground. I picked my dagger back up, and looked at Angelo. He was fighting laugher something fierce.
"Don't tell the others about that. Especially Ricky." I stated.
"About what?" He slightly laughed.
"Exactly." I grumbled.
