Chapter 24: Break the Cycle

X • Ryan's POV • X

It's been a long time since I've seen the color white. And to see it so glorious, coating the walls with a shine now, is hard for my nocturnal eyes to handle. Nothing like this has ever been known to happen, but we are known for firsts. The walls, which previously were darker than the night, now had been stripped of their coal paint. They had become white, with a glowing gold design. The rest of the room had magically turned colors as well, moving this from a vampire king's dwellings, to that of an angel.

When we had reached the last hour of healing Ricky, the room started to come apart. Devin insisted we kept going, no matter how much the rest of us feared the floor under us was going to cave in. We may have feared our lives, but he seemed to know we were going to be fine. I'm not sure how Chris is going to feel about his room getting redecorated. I'm not even sure how it happened. Devin said the tension of his powers caused the room to de-age all at once, but that would mean the room once looked like this. Maybe there's more to Chris than I ever will know.

He, however, won't be as concerned with the room as he will what laid in his bed. Speaking of white... You've never seen white in a more glorious form. I know we were told to expect this, but... I honestly didn't think Devin's predictions would be right.

I stared at Ricky's small body. Devin held himself up on one of the bed posts, obviously tired. "We're finally done."

"Yeah." I spoke through astonishment. "Ashley, you and Nikki help Devin to his room. Nick, go find Chris and tell him we're done. Jeremy and Tyler, I need you two to help me. I'm going to wake Ricky from his coma now, but I need you to hold him down."

"Why?" Tyler asked with concern.

"He might have an anxiety attack when he wakes up." I replied. "Trust me, I know him all too well."

"Alrighty, I'll be back." Nick waved as he headed out the door.

Eventually I gave in and decided to sleep. I couldn't sleep in Ricky's room though, and I didn't want to sleep in one of the guest floors upstairs. So I went into the reading room and fell asleep on the couch. I'm not sure how much time had passed. I believe, maybe four hours or so. Somehow, I wasn't tired when I woke up. Well, was woken.

Nick came into the study and shook me awake. I groaned, and wasn't happy anyone was bothering me, but when he told me why, I changed my mind easily.

"Chris, they're done. You can see Ricky now." He said.

I instantly woke up fully and started to get up. Then I stopped myself halfway to the door. "Is he... okay? Did it work?"

"You could say that..." He muttered as he stared off at the floor.

I narrowed my eyes. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"He's healthy again Chris, but... Just go see for yourself."

I was suspicious as to what he meant. What could I possibly find? I know Devin ran over a lot of possibilities of what could happen. He said he wasn't completely sure on the outcome, seeing as he's never done this before. At least, not to this extent. Four years is a lot of time to completely erase. A million things could happen.

Nick walked me to my bedroom. He opened the door slowly for me, and immediately concern washed over me when I just barely saw what was inside. I could see my walls were white again. How? They haven't been since I had them painted over after Angelo passed. He liked them being white and gold like that, but it was a constant reminder to me that he wasn't alive anymore. The second concerning thing... I saw people standing over my bed, making me worry about Ricky's condition. Nick said he was okay...

I slowly walked around, looking at my surroundings. Somehow, my room was reversed four years as well. It was strange, like I had just walked into a portal to the past. I remember this exact scene once, when Angelo got sick, and there were always people at his bedside, taking care of him. Now, I walk in to see this with Ricky.

As I walked in, Ryan was in the midst of doing something. He suddenly jumped back, and Jeremy and Tyler had to hold on to Ricky as he quickly shot up in bed, gasping for air. The other two held his arms to keep him from going anywhere else. At first, I was focused on seeing his face. Then everything else fell into my sights... Oh, that's what Nick meant... And I, I was a fool to think Devin was insane for saying his wings might regenerate from this. I owe him an apology for thinking that...

Now, every thought of Balz's and I's conversation from earlier was swimming in the back of my mind, but currently, I was too focused on the amazing sight in front of me. I can't believe he actually had his wings back. It felt like some kind of weird dream, but I knew it was real. Even he seemed blown away by this. Ricky raised his wings, looking at them in complete awe. He made a squeky-chocking noise and coverd his mouth with his hands. To seem his actually have tears of joy was such a rare and incredable sight.

"Oh my God." He muttered.

"Wow." I gasped.

"I can't believe..."

I examined his wings with my eyes, saying, "Neither can I."

"You have Devin to thank." Ryan said. He kept running his eyes along Ricky's wings as well. "Despite any complications, he insisted we kept going. And like that, the room was covered in a blinding light for a few minutes, and when it died down, your wings had returned, and the room was white like this."

"I believe I owe him more than I could ever give him, now." I stated. "He's resting?"

"Yeah, I should get some sleep too. We all should."

"Go head. I'll take care of the angel." I said as I sat down on the edge of the bed, setting my eyes to Ricky's. "I truly can call you an angel now."

The others excused themselves from the room. I sat there, and didn't say a word. He looked so damn beautiful. The color had returned to his face. Angels are supposed to have white or blond hair. His had remained black, but now had streaks of blond running through it. He looked so beautiful. A glowing gold ring lined his blue irises. The same gold was also on the outer edge of every feather on his wings. I still was in utter shock that he had his wings back, and he hadn't forgotten how to use them one bit. They still flexed and twitched with his emotions.

Ricky leaned and suddenly hugged me. He wrapped his arms around my neck tightly, burying his face against my shoulder. His wings mimicked the motion of hugging me, without actually toughing me. I delicately snaked my hands around his small waist.

"I love you." He whispered.

"I love you too, my beautiful fallen angel." I replied.

I pet his hair a few times as I held him. Then I traced my fingertips down his jawline, making him lean back to look at me. Both his hands still rested on my neck, as he stared deep into my eyes. With a blissful breath, I kissed him. Our first kiss that wasn't in danger of being our last. That is, for now. When the guardians catch wind of this, I'm sure it will be a much different story.

Right now, I didn't care much. I ran my hand down his arms, giving him a chill as we parted our lips. "Come on, let's get you off this bed. It's covered in blood."

I stood up as he looked around himself to realize the sheets were soaking in blood; his blood. I then offered him a hand, and he delicately stepped off the bed. Ricky gave me a weak smile as he adjusted to standing once again with angel wings.

"We'll get a servant to change the sheets. Why don't we take a walk? I'm sure you're dying to stretch your wings for the first time in four years." I said.

His smile grew. "You have no idea! I still can't believe it." Ricky looked at his wings again. His smile was so genuine and beautiful.

"You and me both." I grinned.

His happiness made me happy. I just felt this amazing amount of joy that came from his simple little smile. Everything about this incredible creature made me beyond happy. I will do whatever it takes to keep that priceless smile on his beautiful, flawless face. I'd do anything for him, period.
