Flashback:

The medical camp was abuzz with activity as usual. Macey moved through the ward with practiced efficiency, attending to the needs of the soldiers.

Among the patients were Lieutenant Quinn and Lieutenant Grayson, who had become regular faces in her daily routine.

Lieutenant Grayson had quickly established a friendly rapport with Macey.

Despite his injuries, his cheerful demeanor and light-hearted banter made the harsh environment of the camp slightly more bearable.

Lieutenant Quinn, on the other hand, was more reserved but no less appreciative of Macey’s care.

One afternoon, Macey was attending Lieutenant Quinn, changing his bandages and checking his vitals.

Quinn, who had been unusually quiet, looked up at her with a thoughtful expression.

“Lieutenant Quinn,” Macey said, breaking the silence,

“how are you feeling today?”

He gave a small, appreciative smile.

“Better, thanks to you.

You’ve been doing a great job, Nurse Jones.”

Macey blushed slightly at the compliment.

“Just doing my part.”

Lieutenant Grayson, who was in the bed across from Quinn, chimed in.

“You know, Quinn’s been talking about you a lot. He says you’re the best nurse he’s ever had.”

Quinn gave a small laugh.

“I suppose I have been rather vocal about my appreciation. You’ve made this place a bit more bearable.”

Macey continued her work, her professional demeanor intact despite the warmth of their conversations.

She was determined to maintain a clear boundary between her personal and professional life, but she couldn’t deny the growing sense of camaraderie.

As the days passed and their wounds began to heal, Quinn and Grayson were preparing for their discharge.

Macey was busy with her duties but found herself drawn to their company more often.

The three of them shared moments of laughter and conversation, creating a bond that went beyond the typical patient-nurse relationship.

One evening, just before their departure, Lieutenant Quinn approached Macey with a serious expression. “Nurse Jones,” he began,

“I have a small favor to ask.”

Macey raised an eyebrow. “What is it, Lieutenant?”

Quinn hesitated for a moment before continuing.

“I’d like to keep in touch, if that’s alright. I know it might seem odd, but I would really appreciate receiving letters from you.

It would mean a lot to me.”

Macey was taken aback by the request.

“Letters? But why?”

Quinn’s gaze softened. “You’ve been a constant source of comfort and strength for me during my recovery.

I think having a way to stay connected would be nice.”

Macey considered his request, feeling a mixture of surprise and intrigue. “I suppose I could do that,” she said with a smile.

“It’s not something I usually do, but I’ll make an exception.”

The day of their departure arrived, and the camp was filled with a bittersweet atmosphere.

Macey stood by the entrance, watching as Lieutenant Quinn and Lieutenant Grayson prepared to leave.

The sense of camaraderie and shared experience lingered in the air.

Before he left, Lieutenant Quinn approached Macey.

“Thank you for everything, Macey,” he said softly. “It’s been a pleasure getting to know you.”

Macey smiled, feeling a tinge of sadness at their parting.

“Take care, Lieutenant. I wish you all the best.”

As a final gesture, Quinn gently cupped her face and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.

The brief touch was filled with warmth and gratitude, a fleeting moment that Macey would cherish.

Lieutenant Grayson, standing beside Quinn, offered a friendly wave. “We’ll keep in touch, won’t we?”

Macey nodded. “Yes, of course.”

As they walked away, Macey watched them go, her heart a mix of emotions.

The connection they had formed was significant, and the kiss from Quinn was a poignant reminder of the brief but meaningful bond they had shared.
