Chapter 19- The End Of Stain

The Alleyway was completely silent following Naoko's proclamation, not only were Naoko's peer's stunned into silence by this new information, but it seemed that the Hero Killer himself had been taken aback by this. The two heroes in training were sending frantic glances not only to Naoko, but also to each other, silently asking if whether of them had known about the whole, 'dead parents' thing.

Stain was the first to react, "Well ain't that interesting," He drawled, the malice in his voice so intense that it had a shiver crawling down everyone's backs, "I'm impressed kid, it seems that you're one of the only good heroes around, I approve of you."

It seemed that he was genuinely complementing her, not that Naoko cared... well, she really couldn't even tell that he had asked her a question as she was using her quirk more or less in place of her eyes, "You know, I think I felt you say something, but I really don't care."

The third presence was quickly approaching, but Naoko had already made her move by the time the heterochromatic teenager reached the scene. She could still feel Chris' words burning through her, she knew she wasn't skilled enough to do anything nor was she licensed to do anything, but that didn't stop her from acting... She would be damned if she let her classmates die because of a rule.

Naoko didn't even have a second to retaliate when she felt Stain move, her quirk alerted her off that fact right before she was hit in the midsection with one of Stain's daggers that was left in it's sheath. Unfortunately for him, Naoko was so immersed in her quirk that when he hit her she didn't even flinch, but a sinkhole opened up right below where he was going to land as Naoko's body rag dolled away.

This wasn't what anyone expected to happen, it almost seemed like she had disconnected her body from her mind as she and stain began to engage in a rather odd battle where he bounced around the alley way and she melted where he had just barely stepped. The whole thing was moving so fast that no one on scene could keep up with what was happening.

As soon as Todoroki stepped foot into the area affected by Naoko's quirk, the madness stopped for half a moment as Naoko disconnected herself from her quirk, "Why the hell did you come!" She practically screamed, her eyes were rather unfocused as she attempted to sit up, but her quirk still had some amount of control, which meant she had no strength in her limbs.

"You need to get everyone out of her," Her voice held an urgency that no one had ever heard from her before, not even at the USJ, "I can't hold him off for long, go, please!"

Todoroki's eyes flashed between Iida, Midoriya, the wounded hero, and Naoko, all of whom were lying on the ground helplessly, "I won't leave you Fujimura-san," He said quietly, but Naoko cut him off before he could say anything else,

"I can't see you; I have no idea what you're saying, you idiot! Just go! The heroes know I'm here; I wasn't an idiot who ran off without telling people where I was going, unlike a few other people here!"

Stain made to leap forward but was stopped by yet another pit hole that he dodged easily enough. He was beginning to understand her quirk, which made it easier for him to avoid her attacks. Naoko was aware of the fact that he was learning from her, which made her even more desperate to get them out of there.

"Do none of you guys understand how outmatched we are? The city is being attacked by those freaks from the USJ and all the heroes who could help us are currently trying not to die. We are no match for him. You need to go now!"

Todoroki, far from listening to Naoko, took a step forward as he narrowed his eyes, "Sorry Fujimura-san, I don't believe in leaving my comrades behind."

Sonar and Chris were currently running through the city at breakneck speeds, dodging fire that seemed to be raining down from the heavens as they chased an opportunistic idiot that had decided to take advantage of the chaos surrounding them. Already he had been leading the duo on for far longer than they liked, especially since Naoko's emergency signal had been cut off abruptly several minutes ago.

Both of the men had been more than ready to run to Naoko the moment her panic button had been activated, but they were stopped by this idiot stabbing someone right in front of them which led them to the ridiculous chase they were currently in.

It was unfortunate, but this wasn't their first time dealing with this kind of situation, so they simply grit their teeth and got to work, hoping that the young girl would be alright for a little bit longer.

Sonar quickly wrapped his hand around Chris' elbow as he nodded to an electrical sign up ahead before he let go and veered off towards the nearest wall as he left Chris to follow the direct pursuit of the criminal.

This was a dance that they had joined in many times, so of course they moved as one, it was incredible... the feeling of being so in sync with someone was a heady feeling, and as Chris' quirk activated a cruel smile climbed onto his lips. The poor bastard didn't even know what was about to hit him.

It barely took a thought to make the connections within the neon sign explode, sending a shower of debris and sparks down directly in the path of the target. This, understandably, caused the man to flinch away as he tried to change direction, but before he could get more than a step out of his way, he was cut off by Sonar, who had used the shadows to his advantage as he flanked the man.

Sonar's fist hit the man at just the right angle where a spurt of blood erupted from a small contusion. Before the man even began to register his pain, he was brought to the ground as both Chris and Sonar kicked out the man's knees.

The fight didn't last too long after that, due to the man passing out from shock.

It was almost disappointing.

After that it was a simple matter to handcuff him to a nearby pipe and add an alarm to his coat that would alert the police to his whereabouts. "Do you remember where she was?" Chris finally signed after they finished with the unconscious man.

Sonar grimaced but nodded, "Yes, but this idiot took us pretty far away from her, if she's still there, she could be dead by now... Or worse."

They maintained eye contact for a moment before Chris rubbed his temple, "Do you think she'll fight?"

It was obvious that he was rather stressed out about that idea, but it seemed that Sonar really didn't care, in fact, his lips edged up into a rather excited smile at the question, "Well, let me put it this way, would you have put up a fight in her place?"

Naoko was about ready to join Stain just so she could beat some sense into these idiotic teenagers. This was the third or fourth time she had given them a chance to get away, but they still refused to take it. Honestly, none of this would be happening if Iida had just done as she told him to, and now Todoroki and Midoriya were here with their suicidal attitudes and lack of any form of common sense to ruin her day so much more.

She could have gotten away from Stain on her own, it was pretty obvious that his beef was with the pro hero, but nooo.... Everyone just loved the spotlight, didn't they...?

A boot smashed into Naoko's thigh, sending her careening across the pavement away from her classmates, Stain was still formidable, and he hadn't exactly been napping while she yelled at Todoroki to leave, so this was her reward.

Todoroki was now facing off against Stain and Naoko could see Midoriya slowly standing up again, which meant that they were both going to be the first to die... If Naoko wasn't such a nice person, she would be tempted to just leave them there and them get what was coming to them. Unfortunately for her, she did generally consider herself to be pretty nice.

As Naoko attempted to stand, her leg gave out from under her which sent her right back to the hard ground, well this wonderful day just kept getting better. It seemed as though her body was at the end of what she could do physically, and she already knew that her brain was about done with what it could do. If she pushed her quirk much further, she would likely give herself some major internal damage.

Or she would induce another panic attack or seizure, both of which could end up with her killing everyone in the alley way... In other words, she had been backed into a corner and the only way to keep helping and make sure that she didn't actually kill anyone would be to take a major risk.

She watched helplessly as all three parties threw themselves forward to engage in battle, if she tried to use her quirk while they were moving so quickly, she could end up hurting them instead of helping them.

Her hands were shaking... Heck, her whole body was shaking, but it wasn't like she could sit by and do nothing, now was it? Instead, she did the only thing she could think to do and she crawled to the pro hero who was still leaning against the wall, unable to move, "How're you holding up?" She murmured, hoping to avoid attention.

Not that she really needed to worry, the boys were far too concerned with not getting chopped in half... Maybe she would try to help them out once she was done with this guy.

Speaking of, the pro hero was slumped on the ground in front of her with a pool of blood under him that was still spreading, "I've been better," He said, highlighting that fact with a wet sounding cough that showed a small dribble of blood running down his chin.

Naoko grimaced slightly at that, but nodded before reaching forward and touching his wound, "Normally I would just let medical people do this, but I can't carry you out of here and those idiots are to preoccupied to get you out. I need you to close your eyes, okay?" The man shot her a rather concerned look, but she ignored it and tried to concentrate on his wound.

Earlier in the week, Chris had given Naoko an idea about how she could use her ability to help seal wounds. Perhaps the idea of solidifying a few layers of blood to stop them from bleeding out was an obvious one with her quirk, but Naoko really hadn't wanted to use her quirk around others at all, so when Chris originally mentioned it she brushed the idea off.

Now though? It was far more needed, so Naoko just had to get over her concerns and do it.

Naoko tentatively extended her quirk, just enough to touch the gaping stab wound in the man's chest as she commanded it to solidify the smallest amount of his blood, which caused him to wince away from her as best he could while paralyzed

"Sorry, sorry," She muttered, but that was one problem gone, they didn't have to worry about the poor man bleeding out, so now it was time to do the same to Iida. His wound didn't seem to be quite as bad, but it would be stupid to let it sit and continue to bleed, it was slow, but Naoko was able to reach Iida eventually, "You happy with this?" she asked...

So perhaps she was a little irritable, this whole thing was his fault.

Naoko activated her quirk without waiting for his response, which obviously made him flinch away from her in pain, he may have even cried out, but Naoko was done with caring... There were more important things to worry about.

A homicidal maniac for example.

The whole night really had just been a shit show of one problem appearing as soon as another was finished, which was getting old really quick for Sonar and Chris. They just wanted to get to Naoko, but every time they were able to make any headway in getting to the alleyway she had been in, someone else came along who needed their asses kicked.

Currently it was some asshole who attempted to mug an old lady while they were passing by. It didn't even take two minutes to take them out, but it was still getting ridiculous.

"You know, it's not too late to go back to being vigilantes," Sonar signed as he watched Chris slap his last pair of handcuffs onto the guy, "Then we wouldn't have to worry about all these idiots."

Normally, Chris would have just brushed this off and continued on, but it was a testimony to how trying the night had been that he actually stopped in his tracks and stared at his partner thoughtfully, "Hm..."

If Sonar had been willing to push, he probably would have been able to convince Chris, but instead he simply sighed and shook his head, "Don't. I was joking. If you do it, then tomorrow I'll have to deal with your sulky ass and that sounds terrible for me. Get done with him so we can get to the kid."

And that was that, he turned away and effectively cut off all conversation forcing Chris to hurry up. It was true that Chris was tempted by the idea of returning to vigilantism just so they could get to Naoko and save her, but Sonar had been spot-on when he said that Chris would sulk for the next several days if he did that. Unlike Sonar, he truly enjoyed the life of a hero and he had enjoyed the connections he had made.

Giving it up at this point would feel like a failure on his part.

So he would grin and bear the interruptions that came with his job and keep pressing forward till he saved the girl that he had become surprisingly close to in the course of a week and a half.

As soon as they began to run once more, Chris turned to Levi ever so slightly with a grim smile, "Let's go save our girl."

Now, Sonar agreed with this wholeheartedly, but he had been hardwired to sass Chris at every opportunity, so he sighed heavily as he ran, "You do realize she's not actually our daughter, right? She has a mother figure already."

It was almost comical, the look of pure depression that Chris shot Sonar, "Well you didn't have to remind me!"

.

.

.

Several minutes later as they were getting stopped once more, Sonar watched in amusement as Chris' face lit up like a Christmas tree and he turned to Sonar with a look of joy in his eyes, "That's it! She has two mother figures, which leaves room for two fathers to jump in! Levi, this is our chance!"

Blood spattered the alley way, a mixture of everyone who had been fighting, which included some from Stain, much to the boy's credit. They had surprisingly been able to hold their own against the hero killer, and while it was obvious that he was gaining the upper hand, he hadn't won yet.

Naoko had been able to force herself into a kneeling position, as was currently spreading her quirk out through the alley way, looking for any instance when she could use her quirk without inconveniencing Todoroki and Midoriya. She could feel the tension in her veins, and as she melted another small part of the alley way right as Stain put his foot down, she felt a sudden shift.

It was small, but as Midoriya went down a second time Naoko could see what the shift was. Stain was beginning to take this seriously now. The adrenaline that was coursing through Naoko's veins tripled in half a second as tried to force her beaten body to stand, to try... To do anything.

Needless to say, it didn't work.

Naoko had barely risen to her feet before her knees gave out and she was sent crashing to the ground in a painful heap.

"Midoriya!" She screamed desperately, her voice was haggard and even she could feel it grating against the walls of her throat as she screamed. Sure, Todoroki was still in the game, but he could only do so much, and when there was now four people to protect, he had the worst handicap possible.

She needed to do something...

She had to help...

Letting them die here, it would all be her fault.

Naoko had no idea what to do, but she did what she could and slowly the tremors in her body stopped as her consciousness flooded into her quirk. It was just like before, Naoko was now more a part of the alley than she was human, the world around her had been reduced to nothing more than vibrations and a mass of liquids and solids as she felt every movement that was made, it seemed that Iida was struggling to his feet, but that wasn't what she was focused on.

Stain was pressing into Todoroki at such a pace that in a matter of moments the teenager had a cut on his cheek. Naoko... Well, no, the swirling mass that was Naoko's quirk took great offense to that, and almost as soon as the line of red began to roll down Todoroki's cheek, Stain's blade had been liquified right out of his hand.

Before she had been hesitant to go through a person with her quirk, because that meant that she could melt their body, but now everything was different. There was no consciousness, there was no empathy...

The only thing left of Naoko in that moment was a feeling of protectiveness towards the boys who had ignored her warnings so many times.

Stain paused for a moment as he looked at where his blade had been before, now it was a mess of silver and red liquid that was rolling down his arm, the flat of his palm had been liquified as well, and there was an undoubtable sting that would have disable any normal human for quite some time.

That moment of pause was one moment to many as the quirk struck again, this time liquifying about half of the spare blades he had been carrying on him as well as his scarf and a portion of his inner leg.

Stain jumped back as quickly as he could, until he was a good thirty feet away from the girl who he was guessing had caused the chaos... This girl's quirk was strong and completely untamed, no wonder the idiot in charge of the League was looking into her, it seemed that none of the stories had been exaggerated.

Despite all that, Stain couldn't help but look at the girl in approval, sure, she lost control, but it was in a far more... organized way than the other child had, she had come after him with the intention of protecting her comrades, and she went so far as to lose herself so they would have a chance to escape. She was an interesting one.

Before he had a chance to try and counteract her quirk, the dual haired boy was already attacking, and this time he was joined by the boy who had started this whole thing in the first place.

The fight was vicious, and throughout it, he could see the others looking back towards where their fallen classmate was with worry, which he used to his advantage to get in a few good strikes.

It seemed as though only moments later, the green haired child joined the fight and Stain was put on the defensive. He was still able to get a few hits in, but every time he turned around he was met by another hit... These children were young and inexperienced, but they were powerful still... They were too much for him.

Stain flew through the air as three fists connected with his midriff at the same time, ending the fight with one decisive blow.

The three teenagers all slumped to the ground as they tried to absorb the fact that they had won... Finally, they had beat Stain and none of them had died.

Todoroki was the first to move as he stood up and walked over to the bad guy, "Does anyone have any rope?" He asked, before looking over at Naoko, who was still on the ground, there were no signs of life, to be honest, he had no idea what happened.

Midoriya pulled a small length of rope from his pocket and weakly stood to tie up the villain, though he was looking at their fallen classmate in concern as well, "What do you suppose happened to her?" He asked in concern, Naoko's words earlier were still echoing in his ears as he finished tying the knot.

Though his question seemed to have stumped all three of them as they continued to look towards Naoko, not saying a word.

"Um, kids?" The pro hero, who was still leaning up against a wall, mere feet from the unresponsive Naoko, "I think you might have another thing to worry about."

They followed his eyes to the man's hero suit, which was slowly melting in multiple spots. The swirling mass of Naoko's quirk was still active, and while it didn't see a threat, it had no real reason to retreat, so it was beginning to affect everything around it.

Time seemed to freeze for the boys as they stared at this... This was not something they were expecting... nor were they prepared to handle it.

Just as they began to freak out (Midoriya and Iida especially), a voice cut in over them casually as two people walked into the light, "Ah Native, there you are, you look like shit, don't you?"

Chris strolled over to the pro hero and slung him over his shoulder as he walked towards the boys, "I take it none of you decided to follow Naoko's instructions? She said that she would get you to retreat but now the amount of young people in trouble has doubled. This is quite strange."

He was a tall guy, far taller than any of them, so Chris absolutely towered over everyone in the alley way, and the way he was looking at them made them feel incredibly subpar, "And you guys have Stain the Hero Killer with you? Man, I knew shit was going down, but I had no idea it was this bad."

Native murmured a few words into Chris' ear that the boys couldn't hear before he was set gently on the ground, "That's what I thought would happen. Okay boys, I'm going to talk to Sonar here, and then we're going to head back to the station so you can drop off this idiot and get some treatment for your injuries. After that, you and I are going to have a long chat about what went down here, am I understood?"

Everyone nodded mutely as Chris turned back around to look at Sonar, whose eyes were fixed solidly on Naoko, his goggles on his face and a rather determined aura that seeped into his posture as he used his quirk to analyze the young girl.

Chris laid his had as gently as he could on Sonar's shoulders, pulling him out of his focus and bringing him so that he would be able to talk to Chris, "Sorry to interrupt you, but I need to take these boys to the police station, are we good to move her?"

Sonar sighed heavily as he shook his head, "I don't think so Chris, it's weird, she's alive, but I don't really see any movement in her brain. Moving her right now could kill her, or cause issues that I really don't want to deal with."

The two men were aware of the boy's eyes fixed solidly on them, but they were more then used to ignoring them as Chris responded, "I'll ask around... Maybe we should call in Eraser Head to cancel her quirk, that might do the trick." Sonar nodded and Chris looked behind him at the boys before turning back to Sonar, "Native said that she gave them several opportunities to leave, but the boys ignored her each time."

A disgusted look crossed Sonar's face as he glared viciously at the boys, who all shrank back several steps, "They're idiots," He signed finally, his fingers harsh with irritation.

"Yes, but I think all teenage boys are,"" There was the smallest amount of amusement in Chris' eyes as he responded, but worry was still the predominate emotion, "Will you stay with her until I get back? I don't want to leave her alone like this... I'll fill you in on everything I learn when I get back?"

Sonar nodded and immediately turned to sit down as close to Naoko as her quirk would let him, completely cutting himself off from the others, who walked out of the alley way hesitantly.

"Come on kid," He signed as he let himself frown, the stress of the day finally catching up to him, "I owe you lunch, you can't leave us now."
