Sunlight streamed into the camp, warming the stones around the clearing. Stormstreak was stretched contentedly out on one of the rocks. The kits tumbled out of the nursery, batting at each other in a play fight.

Little did WildClan know that a murderer would strike that day.

The murderer crept silently towards Darkflare, who was hunting alone. They padded closer, then lunged. Their claws slashed at his throat and opened a wound, but they had not delivered a fatal blow. Darkflare staggered and collapsed to the ground as the murderer bolted into the forest. 

Darkflare coughed, blood streaming out of his wound. Then he sensed a cat bending over him. Hissing, he lashed out with a forepaw.

"No, wait, I'm the medicine cat apprentice. I'm here to help you, don't tell anyone who I am." Darkflare watched the cat out of his clouded vision. Cobwebs were pressed to the wound, and after a while, the blood stopped flowing.

"Can you walk?" the medicine cat apprentice asked.

Darkflare dragged himself to his paws and winced. "Yeah," he rasped.

The medicine cat apprentice dipped their head and disappeared into the forest.

Darkflare staggered into the camp at sunhigh just after the last patrol returned.

Dapplelight let out a yowl of fright at the sight of the gash on his throat, and Kestrelpaw gasped in horror.

"I was attacked," Darkflare rasped. "It was a cat from our Clan."

Silentripple's eyes widened in shock, then narrowed into dark blue slits. "We must vote. I accuse Sagestrike!"
