Shay watched her parents and her brother as they walked out the door. They were fixing their truck, and then they were going to go out to eat. The master mechanic, her father, rolled under the vehicle, searching for the rattling noise that had bothered the ears of the family for at least a month, possibly a few days longer.

Shay ducked away from the window, searching for the oreos in the pantry. The radio clock screamed the time in bright red letters, a solid 6:23. She studied her colorful cookie options, then went for the ones bursting with sweet peanut butter. Shay then receded to her room to continue playing the mindless racing game she had been playing the whole week.

A few minutes later, Shay noticed that the wind outside had begun to blow incredibly fast and loud. She rushed to close the window, then watched as her father stood to enter the truck. Her mother was struggling to put Shay's brother in his car seat.

Then two seconds later, they were gone.
