Once at the farm the three men went in the barn. Dr Hess kept the space pod they found years ago when they were in Antartica dealing with some aliens.

"Here it is," Dr Hess said. "And the government never showed up since we brought this baby in." He turned to Gold that held a box. It contained a piece for Amber when she was ready to know the truth of her powers.

"You sure you want to keep it here?" Mac asked Gold.

Gold nodded, "I think Amber needs to see this when the time comes. She'll want to know about where she comes from."

Mac and Dr Hess nodded. Mr Gold put the box inside the pod and they closed up the floor.

Amber was with her mother Belle meeting Mrs Hess, Graham and Merrill. Amber was feeling shy meeting them. Belle felt a little more at ease now she was meeting the family. She was talking to Mrs Hess about her 2 sons.

"Graham is the sweetest boy, everyone at church says so. For his age, he's not really interested in girls, he says he wants to be a priest," Mrs Hess smiled proudly, "and Merrill only cares about baseball. He dreams of becoming a famous player when he grows up."

Belle smiled, "they seem like such fine boys, Mrs Hess."

Just then Merrill came in from outside. "Who's this?" he asked his mom as he looked at Amber.

"Oh, this is Amber, honey, who's coming to live with us."

Merrill looked at his mom, "did you want another baby?"

Mrs Hess laughed, "well it will be nice having a little girl around the place."

Amber hid behind Belle and cried softly. Merrill seemed mean (to her that is).

"Come on, sweetie, there's nothing to be afraid of," Belle said as she gently took hold of Amber and set her in front of her.

Merrill didn't like the crying. He wanted to stop her, but he didn't know how, "Hey uh, you wanna see my baseball cards? I have the full set for the Pittsburgh pirates."

"...," Amber turned to him. She stopped crying. But hugged her mother.

"You can bring them down, if you want, honey," his mother said sweetly.

Belle hugged Amber back and set her on her knee. Merrill ran to fetch his baseball cards which he was very proud of. Once he returned he sat on the floor and began laying them all out.

"This is the complete set of the pirates.... these others are of my idols, Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth-"

"Merrill, she's 2," Graham reminded him, coming in the room, "she's not going to know anything about baseball."

Merrill shrugged, "I can teach her."

Amber looked down watching. "Big...bird?"

Merrill was confused, "big bird?"

Graham laughed.

"Big Bird." Amber said again, clapping her hands.

"Oh she wants her bird." Belle reached in her bag and pulled out a yellow bird. It was Woodstock from Peanuts comic.

"Big Bird!" She hugged her bird.

"He's nice. I like big bird," Graham said to her, smiling.

Merrill smiled slightly, ".....yeah. He's...great."

"Well this is Woodstock," Belle smiled, "we couldn't afford a Big Bird so we bought him and she calls him Big Bird."

"Oh I get it, she likes Sesame Street? I used to like watching Snoopy," Merrill said.

"You still do!" Graham teased.

"Puppy," Amber smiled at Merrill.

"Awe you guys have something in common, Merrill," his mother smiled.

"Uh, yeah I guess..."

"I know, why don't you go watch snoopy with her," Graham suggested, "it'll make her feel less afraid of us."

Merrill looked at Amber, "do you want to watch Snoo-I mean, puppy? I have a VHS."

Amber nodded at him, shyly.

Merrill reached out and took her hand. He led her over to the tv, "you can sit on the couch if you want to. I just lay here on the floor," he then put the tape in for her.

"Awe look at them getting along," Mrs Hess smiled at Belle.

He helped Amber up onto the couch and then lay on the floor, watching the TV.

Belle smiled, "Yes it's very reassuring to see."

After awhile Mr Gold and Belle were getting ready to leave (Mac had already left). Amber knew they were leaving without her, so she ran outside to them even though they wouldn't leave without a goodbye. Amber ran to her mother and hugged her legs. "Mama. Dada. Don't go..."

Belle began to cry as she hugged her, "we have to sweetie, I'm sorry."

"You'll be fine here, Amber. This is a nice family,"Gold said as he bent to kiss her cheek.

"But me want my family," the little girl cried.

"I'm sorry, my little Angel." Mr Gold picked her up and held her. "But I promise, your mother and I will always be with you. Even if you can't see us. We will be in here." He pointed her heart. Amber looked at her chest and back up at her father. She teared up and hugged him. Mr Gold held her as he teared up, but he held in his tears. He then held her face and kissed her forehead. "I love you, honey."

"Love, Mama and Dada too." She said.

Mr and Mrs Hess then came outside to bid the Golds goodbye. Mrs Hess took hold of Amber to comfort her.

"It'll be alright, little one. You will see mama and daddy again. Until then we will take good care of you because you're so precious. Your mama and daddy love you very much, and I promise we will love you too." Mrs Hess said.

Amber wiped her tears away. She noticed Merrill and Graham by the doorway. They felt bad now for her. Mrs Hess walked her to the door. That's when Merrill had an idea.

"Hey, big bird...," Merrill said to get her attention because he didn't know her name yet, "Wanna come see my room. I have lots of cool stuff."

"Amber," Mrs Hess whispered to him.

Amber turned to him rubbing her eyes and nodded. She held her hand to him.

"sorry, Amber..." Merrill took her hand and led her through the hall and up the stairs of the farmhouse. When they reached his bedroom he proudly began to show her everything, "Here's my collection of comic books, and my microscope... you're too young right now but when you're older you'll think it's cool. You can look at bugs up close....," he pointed to his bunk bed, "I have this for when my friends stay over. When you're big enough, I can show you my tree house.."

"Tree house?" She asked. She seemed interested.

"Merrill," Mrs Hess came in with Amber's bags, "Amber is going to sleep in your room. She will be your roommate." She smiled.

Merrill's eyes widened, "Roommate? Mom! She's...a girl!"

"Well yes, but we don't have another bedroom for her."

Merrill pointed up.

"There's the attic! Shoot, even I'd rather sleep up there than share my room with a girl! All my friends will laugh at me."

"Upstairs cold," Amber said.

"Now, Merrill, just because she's a girl doesn't mean anything. And she has a point, the attic is too cold for both of you."

"Why not Graham? Can't I bunk with him?"

"Uh, no!" Graham folded his arms.

Merrill scowled at Graham, "Why not? is it because you won't be able to touch yourself anymore?"

"Merril Hess!?" Mrs Hess gasped.

"What the heck!? No! Bro, don't say that stuff infront of Amber. Besides I need my own room! I want to be a priest you know and I am studying to be one."

"See this is exactly what I mean, when my friends come over we won't be able to say hardly nothing in front of a girl!"

"Alright, Merrill, I see your point," Dr Hess said, "but we're all going to have to adapt. It's like having a little sister, so think of how much fun it will be."

Merrill wasn't convinced, "yeah, loads of fun. But Graham doesn't have to adapt. I'm the one sharing my room."

"And that's why you'll have a really strong bond with Amber as she grows up. She'll become your best friend."

"Best fwiend." She hugged him.

Merrill was now confused. He didn't know what came over him. Everyone now was looking at him he looked down seeing Amber smile up at him. His heart beating. He shook his head and pushed down. She fell on her bottom. She was so confused why he did that that she broke down.

"I already have a best friend, and that's Rory. Plus my second best friend is Isabelle, I don't need anymore friends," Merrill then ran from the house and into the barn. Graham was now mad. He went to Amber and picked her up.

"People hate me." Amber cried hugging him.

"Nobody hates you, little one. Merrill is just acting up," Dr Hess said.

Mrs Hess sighed, "thank you, Graham. You're a good boy. Your brother just needs more time to come around to the idea. But he will."

Years passed. Merrill was being quiet around Amber but was being protective of her. He was now a teenager and Amber was close. Graham was in studies for being a priest. As he always wanted. Dr Hess had retired as a scientist and spend more time with his family. His wife, well she was still working at the vet.

One day the whole family were driving home from the city, but Amber was arguing with Dr Hess.

"I don't have to listen to you! Your not my father."

"Amber!" Mrs Hess cried.

"No, No, Rose. She's right."

Rose looked down sadly, "Amber honey, Frank isn't your father but he loves you like one, just like I love you. We're doing the best we can for you."

"Well maybe our best isn't good enough for her...," Dr Hess added.

Amber sighed feeling guilty for what she said. Merrill was even looking at her but Graham kicked his foot.

"Look. I'm-"

"Woe, hold on," Dr Hess then stopped the truck. Something was wrong now. He stepped out of the truck. Amber looked and saw everyone outside were also getting out of their vehicles. What was going on? Amber then got out.

"Wait, hang on!" Merrill jumped out and grabbed her arm. He knew something wasn't right. It felt as if there was danger coming.

They stood beside Dr Hess, seeing lighting flash in the sky.

"Quickly, run, take cover!" he said to them both.

Graham then got out of the car, and Rose "Frank!"

"Graham, take your mother, Merrill, go with your brother! And don't let go of Amber!"

Graham pulled Merrill back, who was holding on to Amber. They began to run for shelter as a huge tornado was forming and headed their way.

Amber looked back, she noticed Dr Hess was helping people run for shelter in the overpass, where the boys and Amber were heading to. But a little boy caught Amber by surprise. He was crying and just stood there. Amber let go of Merrill and ran to him. "Hey it's ok. You gotta come with me ok?" She held her arms out once she knelt down. The little boy then let her lift him into her arms.

"Amber, hurry!" Merrill yelled as he ran toward her. He had promised his dad he wouldn't let her go, or even leave her.

Just then his father appeared beside them with their mother, "come on we have to go..."

They ran toward the underpass but when they got there, Merrill panicked, "Isabelle is still in the truck!!" He ran to go get her but Frank stopped him
"You stay here with your mother. I'll get her!"

Rose shook her head and ran with him.

"MOM!" Graham screamed.

Amber looked back after she gave the boy to his mother. She looked worried as Dr Hess and Mrs Hess ran back to the truck. Once they opened the truck they tried to get Isabelle to jump to them, but she was afraid to.

Suddenly, the twister was close that it caused a large truck hit them luckily Dr Hess grabbed his wife and they jumped in the truck. Amber ran, but Graham grabbed her. "No!"

As Dr Hess managed to open the door, Isabelle finally jumped out and she ran to Merrill who ran a little ways past Graham and Amber, so he could scoop the dog up in his arms.

Merrill then ran back. But once he came to the overpass. Amber tried to run to them seeing they were trying to get out of the truck. Once they did, Dr Hess shook his head to Amber sadly. He knew she wanted to try to save them, but she couldn't risk it. Graham still held her back. Once they were swept by the storm, Amber then broke down, "Dad!!!! Mom!!!" She cried.

Graham held her tightly as she cried. He fought to hold back his tears. Merrill cried silently and hugged Isabelle. Amber hugged Graham as she sobbed. She could've saved them, why wouldn't they let her?
