Work with the Enemy

Melanie watched as the Beast sliced Liams side, she tried to push through Stiles' grip but he kept a tight hold on her.

The Beast roared before running towards the school. Once the Beast was far away, Stiles' grip around Melanie loosened, making Melanie run towards Liam. She skidded on her knees to get to him, not caring about her knees getting scraped from the cement as she looked over Liams injuries.

"Okay. Okay we need to get you up." Melanie said, using one hand to cup Liams cheek as the other barely laid over his injuries, both hands trying to heal him as best as she could.

Hearing people run over from behind her, Melanie turned her head as she wrapped one of Liams arms around her shoulders to get him up. She nodded her head at Liam as she looked at Belle, Hayden and Stiles. "Help me get him up!"

Stiles instantly nodded, running over to Melanie and Liam to help him up as Belle and Hayden ran ahead of them to make way in the crowd for them.

"Come on, come on." Melanie whispered to Liam as Belle and Hayden pushed passed groups of screaming people.

The five ran into Mrs. Finch's room and Stiles instantly turned to Melanie from over Liam. "The desk, the desk!" Melanie nodded, carrying him to the desk, Liam screaming in pain as Stiles and Melanie maneuvered him around to put him on the table.

"Okay, okay." Stiles mumbled and Liam shook his head, looking between Mel and Stiles. "I'm okay. I'm fine." Belle and Hayden slowly walked up to the table, standing in the same side as Stiles. Melanie slowly grabbed Liams jersey and peeled it off of his skin, revealing his torn and bloody stomach.

Melanie let out a small gasp at the sight, worrying Liam slightly as he lifted his head to look at the injury before hissing in pain and dropping his head. He let out a tired breath as he turned to Melanie. "What? Is it bad?"

Melanie gulped, shaking her head. "No." Melanie and Hayden said, trying to keep Liam calm as Belle and Stiles aggressively nodded their heads. "Very."

Melanie gave an angry glare to Belle and Stiles as Hayden whacked Belle's arm. Stiles mouthed 'sorry' to the girl before looking back down at Liams injuries. Stiles' eyes went wide at the sight and Melanie noticed his eyes starting to roll to the back of his head.

"We got a fainter!" Melanie yelled and Belle and Hayden instantly went behind Stiles, catching him just before he hit the ground. "We got him!" Belle yelled.

Melanie nodded before looking back down at Liam, she noticed him starting to grow unconscious and quickly put one hand over his injuries, Liam screamed in pain and Mel immediately leaned in to give him a kiss, using the hand that wasn't on his stomach to cup his face, trying to heal him from her hands and her lips.

She slowly pulled away and opened her eyes to look at Liam. The Dunbar boys eyes were still closed as he let out a small, almost relieved exhale. Melanie looked down at Liam's injuries and smiled at the fact that it was starting to heal.

...

"Scott, wait." Liam muttered out, still slightly sore as he chased after the alpha, Melanie right behind him. "Scott, you're hurt." Melanie said as she reached out from Scott's shoulder but he just shook himself out of her grasp, making her groan. "You gotta slow down."

Scott continued to ignore Liam and Melanie, trying to find the car he come smell the shoe coming from. He suddenly stopped at a black car Melanie immediately recognized. She turned to Liam, sending him a worried look that he instantly returned as Scott ripped open the trunk.

All that sat inside the car was a single pair of sneakers, Scott slowly picked up one of the shoes and revealed the bloody bottom, making Melanie's heart drop.

Scott turned around to Melanie and Liam, showing them the shoe as he closed the trunk, making Mason finally appear in the line of eyesight, the Hewitt boys eyes wide. "Scott? What are you doing to my car?"

Scott's once relieved smile faltered as he looked at Mason with wide eyes. "It's you."

Mason looked at Scott with a scrunched face. "What?" He turned to Melanie and Liam beside Scott; Liam looking at him sadly as Melanie looked at him with big eyes. "Liam, what's he talking about? Mel?"

Suddenly, Corey reappeared from beside Mason, he grabbed onto the boys shoulders and Melanie instantly straightened up at the action. "Corey, wait!"

Corey turned to Melanie, tilting his head before he disappeared with Mason. Scott ran down the walkway they were on in hopes he'd catch them. "Corey, wait!"

...

"My dad's got an APB out." Stiles said as he, Kira, Malia, Melanie and Liam stood around Scott's kitchen table. Kira nodded, looking up at Stiles. "For a 5'8" 16-year-old?"

Stiles turned to Kira before clearing his throat and look between the other three people in the group. "I recommended nine-foot tall rampaging werewolf." Melanie sighed, rubbing her forehead as she rested her elbows on the table. Liam looked between the three seniors with wide eyes, shaking his head. "It still might not be him."

Mel didn't even have to look at Stiles, Kira and Malia to know they were giving Liam 'the look' making her lift her head to look at all of them. "But, Belle and Hayden are at the school looking."

Malia gave Melanie a grateful nod before she turned to Stiles. "I can keep checking the woods." Scott finally came down and joined the group with a sigh. "My mom can check all the hospitals in the county. We can find him."

"What happens then?" Liam asked and Scott gave him a reassuring smile. "We figure out a way to save him." Melanie nodded before looking down at the table where the map of Beacon Hills Stiles had brought over laid. "Okay. Where else could we look?"

After a few seconds of not getting her answer, Melanie looked up and locked eyes with a smirking Scott as he tilted his head. "Let's ask Corey." Suddenly, Scott reached out behind him and grabbed onto something. A small shriek escaped from that direction and Corey became visible.

Melanie looked at Corey with wide eyes and when Scott started turning his eyes red, Corey shook his head in fear. "Wait. Wait. It's not my fault. They took him and I couldn't do anything. They took him..." Corey stammered out. Melanie squinted, leaning over the table slightly. "Who?"

Corey turned to Melanie and sighed in defeat. "The Dread Doctors."

...

After talking with the group a little more, they had set up their plans. Stiles would check the station with his dad, Malia would continue to check the woods, Kira would go back to the hotel she was staying at with her parents to fix her sword, asking if Melanie wanted to go with her but the girl immediately declined the offer, not wanting to see her mom and dad, leaving her to go with Scott and Liam to talk to Theo.

The three walked towards the locker rooms where they were supposed to meet Theo as Liam groaned, looking at Scott with a slight glare. "How stupid are we to be doing this?"

Scott turned to Liam, slightly offended as he shook his head. "We're not stupid. We're desperate." Melanie scoffed at his words, opening the door for the two boys. "Incredibly desperate apparently."

As soon as they walked in, they locked eyes with Theo and Tracy, Theo having a big smirk on his face as he crossed his arms while Tracy looked annoyed with the groups presence.

"I told you we'd end up on the same side." Theo said and Melanie rolled her eyes as Liam took a small step towards him. "How about I punch you in the balls to remind you we're not?"

"I have my sword, I can chop them off." Melanie said, making Liams eyes go wide as he hit her shoulder and nodded. "Oh... I like that idea better."

A laugh from Theo made Melanie and Liam stop their side conversation and look at him with furrowed brows. His laugh turned into a sigh as it started to die down and he pointed at the two. "I love these two."

"I don't." Tracy muttered, Melanie turned to the girl, giving her a slight glare before turning back to Theo as Scott spoke. "We know you're not on our side, Theo. You said you wanted to help Lydia, but you left Eichen with something else, didn't you?"

Theo raised his brows at Scott, shrugging. "You mean the mask? Are you worried about that?" Melanie crossed her arms, looking at Theo with an annoyed look. "Did you put it on? Who did you see?"

Theo turned to Melanie and shook his head. "Not Mason." Liam glared at Theo, his jaw clenched as he shook his head. "What's that mean? It's not him?" Tracy rolled her eyes at the constant questions, looking at Liam in annoyance. "It probably means he's a lost cause."

"We all want the same thing. We want Mason back." Theo said and Scott glared at him. Okay, but the difference is that we want him back alive." Theo smiled slightly, shrugging as a small laugh passed through his lips. "Well, I'm open to compromise. You still got the map with telluric currents on it?"

Scott turned to Melanie, the girl slowly nodding her head since she was the one left with the map. Theo saw the silent exchange between the two and nodded. "Bring it to the operating theater in two hours."

Liam looked at Theo with angry eyes, stomping out of the room. Melanie looked at him with wide eyes, quickly following after him, when she got up to him, she grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze, making him sigh. "How desperate are we?"

Melanie frowned at his words, their steps finally starting to slow as Melanie rested her head on Liams shoulder. "Incredibly."

...

Just like they had planned, the three met Theo at the operating theater with the map. They saw him standing in front of a human-sized tube, a body floating in green liquid inside. Theo, hearing the three walk in, started to speak. "They called him Der Soldat. That's German for 'The Soldier.' I'm pretty sure he fought in World War II. And he was a Nazi. And an Alpha werewolf. The Dread Doctors were using him to prolong their lives. They've been doing it for decades. Actually, probably longer."

Melanie's brows furrowed at his words, looking around the room she had only been in when the Dread Doctors took her, Liam, Belle and Hayden. "How old are these guys?" Theo finally turned around to face the three, shrugging. "Who knows. But wherever they go, he goes, too."

Liam sighed, tilting his head at Theo. "So how do we find him?" Theo used his thumb to point at the tube behind him, gesturing his head to it slightly as he did so. "Keeping him alive requires a pretty unique set of conditions. There's got to be a power source. It has to be underground..." "And on a telluric current." Scott finished, passing the map to Theo. The Raeken boy looked down at the map before he smirked, looking back up at the three. "Looks like we're going for a hike."

...

The walk through the woods was mostly quiet beside Melanie asking Liam every once and a while if he caught any scent considering she didn't have the power of enhanced smell. No one had really talked for about 10 minutes until Scott spoke up "Where is he?"

Melanie looked up at Scott when he spoke before noticing he was talking to Theo, making her turn to the chimera who was rolling his eyes. "I thought we were looking for him." Scott's jaw clenched, stopping his steps, making Theo stop as well. "You know who I'm talking about."

Theo let out a small chuckle, smirking as he tilted his head at Scott. "Deucalion?"

"You shouldn't trust him." Scott warned, walking towards Theo but he just squinted at Scott. "And you're the one who let him live." Scott rolled his eyes, starting to walk again. "I'm not a murderer."

Melanie went to follow after the two boys but Liam stuck his arm out, stopping her. The couple watched as Theo wiped the corner of his mouth, smirking. "You still think you're gonna get through all this without killing anyone?"

"I didn't say that." Scott said. Liam rolled his eyes at the fact that neither Scott or Theo noticed he and Mel stop walking, making him speak up. "We're close."

Scott and Theo finally stopped, turning around to Liam with wide eyes. "You get his scent?" Scott asked and Liam nodded, making Theo straighten up. "Which way?"

Liam ignored Theo's question, looking back and forth between Scott and Melanie, silent telling them they should ditch Theo and get Mason themselves. Mel, catching onto Liams plan, slowly put her hand behind her back and made a knife appear in her hand but kept it behind her so Theo wouldn't see it.

"You think you're going to leave me behind?" Theo asked and Scott sighed, turning to Liam. "Liam..." He started but the boy glared at him. "Look, he wants to kill him."

"I just want his power. You want to fight someone that actually wants to kill Mason? Go fight Parrish. Stop trying to fight me." Theo yelled and Melanie scoffed, growing impatient with the boys arguing and just wanting to find her friend. "We're not trying to fight you."

Theo turned to Melanie, raising his brows as if to say 'really?'. "You're not trying to fight me? Really? I can see the knife you're holding behind your back, don't play dumb." Melanie's eyes went wide, stuffing the knife into the waistband of the back of her jeans and throwing her hands in her pockets as Liam turned to Theo defensively. "Who did you see when you put on the mask?"

"I already told you. It wasn't Mason." Theo said and Melanie took a small step towards him. "Who was it?" Theo looked back and forth between the three before gulping, his eyes falling to the ground. "I saw a man dying in the snow. He was impaled on a spear."

"It's called a pike. Lydia told us the story." Scott said, looking to Melanie and Liam as Theo nodded. "Then the three of you know what it means. Time's running out."

Scott looked at Theo for a few seconds before sighing, realizing he was right. "Where is he, Liam? What direction?" Liam still kept his mouth shut and Melanie lightly nudged his elbow with hers. Liam turned to her and she nodded, telling him to say where he could smell Mason, making Liam roll his eyes in defeat, grabbing her hand and stomping passed Scott and Theo. "This way." He muttered angrily.

They reached a big brown door, hidden as if to look like a big boulder. Before anyone could walk in, Scott stuck his arm out, turning to Liam and gesturing his head to the door. "Listen."

Liams face scrunched, looking down to listen for a heartbeat before his head shot up, looking at the door with a small smile. "It's him." Liam said, a small breath of relief passing his lips. Melanie let out a small victory laugh as Scott ripped the lock off the door, opening it as they all slowly walked in.

"Mason?" Liam called out but got no reply. The four walked around the room before Melanie heard a small clattering noise from the back of the room, towards a dark corner. Her brows furrowed as she made a flashlight appear in her hands.

She quickly turned it on and pointed it towards the noise, her eyes instantly going wide at Mason slumped against one of the big green body tubes. The three werewolves turned their heads to see what Melanie was looking at and froze.

"Oh my God." Melanie whispered, her hand going to her mouth in shock as Liam shook his head in denial. "It's connected to him." Melanie didn't hesitate to crouch down next to Masons left side, Scott going next to her with Liam and Theo on the other side of Mason. Her eyes went wider at the syringe lodged in Masons neck.

"What is this thing?" She whispered and Scott shook his head. "I don't know."

Mason let out a small cry, turning to Liam with pleading eyes. "Liam, I can feel it. It's in my skull." Mason mumbled, moving his hand to touch the syringe, making Melanie quickly shake her head no. "Hey. Hey. Don't move. Don't touch it. Careful." Melanie said quietly, putting a hand on Masons shoulder to stop him from moving.

"What are they doing to him?" Liam asked Theo angrily, making the boy whip his head to Liam. "I don't know." Theo snapped, making Melanie roll her eyes.

"Guys, let's focus." Melanie huffed, not wanting the two boys to argue again before turning back to the Hewitt boy. "Mason, we're gonna get you out of here."

Scott nodded, turning to Theo and Liam. "Hold him still." The two boys nodded, holding the boy down as Scott looked down at Mason. "Okay. All right. I'm going to try to pull it out. Let me know if it hurts..."

"Mel, try healing him while I do it." Scott said, looking at the girl squatted beside him. Melanie slowly nodded, not taking her eyes off the syringe in Masons neck as she grabbed his hands. Once Scott knew she was ready, he started pulling on the syringe.

A blood-curdling scream escaped Mason and Scott instantly let go. "It hurts! It definitely hurts." Mason yelled and Melanie nodded weakly from trying to heal him. "Me too." She groaned before Scott finally let go, making Mason and Melanie let out relieved breaths, glad the pain was gone.

"I barely moved it." Scott whispered before the sound of chirping started to replace the loud whirring noise of the machines. Melanie's eyes went wide, recognizing that noise as she turned to Scott beside her. "They're here."

Scotts eyes went wide in realization as he turned to Theo across from them. Theo sighed, looking around the room to spot the Doctors. "They wanted us here." He whispered, faintly hearing their footsteps get louder and louder.

"Liam, Mel, try to get that thing out of Mason's neck." Scott said and the two sophomores nodded. The chirping only got louder, making Melanie look around worriedly before turning back to Mason to help him.

"Theo... Theo Raeken." The Dread Doctors voice bounced off the walls.

"He's coming with us." Theo demanded, making the Dread Doctors tilt their heads at him. "Failure... Theo Raeken." The Dread Doctor in the middle said, making Theo glare at them. "I'm not a failure."

"Mel... Liam... Get out of here. Just go." Mason whispered in pain and Liam instantly shook his head as Melanie leaned closer to the Hewitt boy.

"We're not leaving you here." Melanie said before turning to Liam, silently nodding as if to ask of he was ready and when he nodded in return, Melanie grabbed each of Masons hands to heal him as Liam grabbed the syringe from the back of Masons neck, ready to pull it out.

"Not a complete failure. We learned from you." The Dread Doctor said and Theo's face fell slightly, worrying Scott. "Theo, he's trying to get to you. This is what they want, don't give it to them. We can't beat them." Scott yelled, trying to knock some sense into the boy as the Doctors kept going.

"The mark of a true failure. Repeating the same mistake again and again."

"We're taking Mason. Let him go." Scott said and the Dread Doctors turned to him. "You have the entitlement and narcissism typical of your generation." The Dread Doctor said before turning to Theo. "In that, you are a profound success." The Dread Doctor told Theo as Masons screams echoed through the room.

"God!" Liam groaned, letting go of the needle in Masons neck, tired of hearing Masons screams in pain. Melanie could barely keep her eyes open from trying to heal. Sighing at the fact it didn't work, she turned to the two older boys.

"Scott! Scott, We can't get it out. I don't know what to do." Melanie yelled, making Scott and Theo look back at her for a few seconds before they turned back to the Dread Doctors.

"But your failure taught us one thing. The banality of evil. That you were and would always be an ordinary evil." The doctor in the middle said and Theo squinted at them, a small smirk on his face as he tilted his head at them. "You think I'm ordinary?"

"We believed that to resurrect the perfect killer we had to start with the perfect evil. From you we learned true evil only comes by corrupting something truly good." The Dread Doctor in the middle said and Scott's eyes went wide, turning back around to the three sophomores, locking eyes with Melanie.

"Not something." Scott whispered to Melanie who caught onto Scott's words and looked down at Mason with worried eyes. "Someone."

A low groan escaped from Mason, making Liam fill with anger towards the Dread Doctors. He ran towards them, claw and fangs out. Melanie's eyes went wide as Mason tried to catch his breath, worrying about his friend. "Liam!"

Liam continued to fight the doctors and noticing he was was the opposite of winning, Melanie, Scott and Theo joined in. Melanie made a katana appear in her hand as she ran towards the one holding Liam off the ground by his throat. She screamed as she took a leap towards the doctor, slashing the little space by his ribs where the metal armor stopped.

The doctor dropped Liam, the boy trying to catch his breath as the doctor turned to Melanie. The doctor rose its arm, going to hit the girl but Melanie block the hit with her sword. "Mel!" She could hear Mason weakly scream but she ignored him as the doctor tried to send another hit towards her.

Suddenly, a loud roar shook through the room, some debris coming off the ceiling as the wall shook. Everyone in the room stopped fighting, turning to the direction of the roar and their eyes landed on Mason as he slowly got up "Transformation." The Dread Doctor that was once fighting Melanie said.

"Transformation... Transformation without frequency." A different doctor said as Mason finally ripped the plug from the back of his neck. "Mason!" Liam screamed, going to run towards his best friend but Scott stuck his hand out, stopping him. Mason's eyes turned fully blue as he growled. "That is not my name!"

A cloud of dust started to circle the Hewitt boy as he roared. The cloud overtaking him before growing bigger and disappearing, revealing the 10 foot tall Beast Melanie had only heard of from the pack.

She took a small step back as the Beast ran towards the closest Dread Doctor, slashing his stomach making him fall to the floor. He turned to the next one who was a few feet away from Melanie and Theo. The Beast roared, running to the doctor and throwing him into the wall. Once the doctor hit the wall, he fell to the ground and the Beast towered over it, slicing him over and over again, some of his slices getting a little too close to Melanie and Theo for the kitsunes liking.

"Get back, you dumbass!" Melanie yelled, sticking her hand out in front of Theo and pushing him back as the beast blindly sent strikes towards the Dread Doctors, some of his swipes falling close to Melanie and Theo.

The Beast walk towards the last standing Dread Doctor who just stood still as he stared at the Beast. "Success." He whispered before the Beast grabbed ahold of its head, twisting it until it ripped off completely.

Melanie stared with wide eyes as the Beast dropped the Dread Doctors head. "Holy shit." She whispered, as the Beast turned to her and Theo. She tightened her grip on her katana but instead of jumping at them, the Beast ran passed them, breaking through the wall and running into the woods where Parrish, burning waited for him.

Parrish sent a fist to the Beast's face, it screamed in pain at the blow before Parrish grabbed its shoulders, trying to knock it to the ground. As the Hellhound and the Beast continued to fight, loud gunshots made Melanie, Liam, Scott and Theo run out of the hole the Beast had made in the wall to get outside.

They watched as Chris and Gerard shot at the Beast, making it roar angrily, shaking the ground at its intensity. With one more punch from Parrish, the Beast roared in pain, running towards the dock just a few feet away from them and it was as if with every step he took, the smoke around him would disappear and he'd become more human.

Only it wasn't Mason.

The Beast turned into a tall, tan-skinned man that sat crouched on the dock, trying to catch his breath.

Gerard took loud steps towards the man, his gun firmly in his hands but not pointed at the man. "La Bête Du Gévaudan! I know your name. Do you remember mine?" The man slowly stood up, looking over Gerard for a few seconds before he smirked.

"Argent." The man whispered before he was surrounded in a cloud of smoke. He roared, the sound shaking the ground beneath the group as he disappeared into the forest. Melanie looked at where the Beast once was with wide eyes as Parrish turned to Gerard and Chris with wide eyes. "Who the hell was that?"

Gerard turned to Parrish, lifting his chin as he tightened his grip on his gun. "You've seen the Beast of Gévaudan. That was the Man. Sebastien Valet."
