On Our Own
Melanie, Belle, Liam and Mason slowly walked towards Melissa who was standing at the nurses station, filling out a patient's file. "Melissa?" Melanie called and Melissa closed the file, turning her head and immediately smiling at Melanie and Belle
"Hey!" She cheered before noticing the paper bag in Belles hands and her mouth quickly made an 'o' shape. "Oh, my gosh. You four brought me dinner? That's really nice." Melissa said happily, going to take the bag out of Belles hands but the blonde pulled the bag away from Melissa's reach just before she could grab it. "No. It's not dinner."
Melissa's brows raised, her arms crossing as she gave Belle a warning look. "It's not dinner?" She asked and Melanie shook her head. "No, it's not." She said, making Melissa turned to her. As soon as the woman's eyes were on her, Melanie smiled, pulling a bag out from behind her back and handing it to Melissa. "This is dinner."
Melissa let out a grateful laugh, taking the bag from Melanie and wrapping an arm around the girls shoulders, kissing her head. "Thank you, sweetheart." She mumbled, making Melanie smile.
Melissa looked down at her bag with her dinner before turning to the bag in Belles hands, her brows creasing. "Then what's in that?"
"Definitely not dinner." Liam muttered only confusing and worrying Melissa more. Quickly, she snatched the bag out of Belles hand as she handed Melanie her bag of food. The woman peaked inside the bag with the rat and let out a small gasp, closing the bag back up and handing it to Belle.
"We were hoping you could take a look at it for us." Mason said and Melissa tilted her head in annoyance at him. "Well, I was hoping that I could eat some dinner. Now is not the time for a rat autopsy, so get this and yourselves out of here." She said, removing her arm from around Melanie's shoulders and instead pushing her and the rest of the teens towards the exit of the hospital.
Belles eyes went wide at Melissa's urgency to get them all out of the hospital. "No, but we really—" "No. Out." Melissa interrupted Belle before turning to Melanie, sending her another thankful smile. "Thank you for the dinner!"
Melanie smiled at Melissa as the four of them walked towards the elevator. As they walked towards the doors, they noticed two men standing in front of the elevator start to fight. "You started it!" One of the men yelled, pointing at the other man as he walked towards him.
The man being pointed at looked at the other angrily, pushing him back. "Back off!" He yelled as the other man's eyes widened, looking around the room to look for "witnesses", yelling, "Hey, now, that's called assault! Can I get security over here?"
Melanie turned to Liam with wide but amused eyes and Liam scoffed, tapping Mason's arm to get his attention. "Let's just walk behind that one." Liam said, pointing at the man that pushed the other guy. Mason looked at Liam and nodded. The four started to walk closer to the fight, trying to walk passed them.
The man that pushed him back laughed, running a hand through his hair. "Oh, really? Assault? Assault?" He asked as the other man looked away from the other people in the hospital, turning to him and nodding. "Yeah."
The man that had pushed the other guy immediately went to punch the other, but the man ducked, dodging it. The guy throwing the punch kept his throw going, punching Liam in the face since Liam was walking behind him.
Liam hit the floor and groaned, Melanie's eyes widened as she bent down, grabbing his arm to help him up. Once Liam was standing, he looked up at the two men fighting and only then did Melanie realize Liams eyes were yellow and his fangs were out.
The man that had blocked the punch looked at Liam with wide, scared eyes. "What the..." He muttered when security started to run over. The man that threw the punch immediately turned to security, pointing at the man he had tried to hit. "He's the one who started it!" He yelled, catching the other man's attention.
When the two men started to argue again, Melanie turned to Liam. "Come on. Let's go." Melanie whispered, grabbing Liams hand and pulling him down the hallway. Mel could hear Liams growls and she tired to go faster the louder he got. When they got to the elevator, she hit the button as much as she could and as soon as the doors were open enough for Liams to fit, she pushed him inside before running in herself.
Liam fell against the wall as Melanie hit the button floor button before continued hit the close door button until the elevator doors closed. When the doors closed and the elevator started to go down, Melanie sighed, turning around to Liam. He had already started to calm down, no longer growling but she could see him still in wolf form. Melanie slid down the wall next to him, grabbing his hand closest to her in both of her hands as she traced circles across it.
"Repeat after me. The sun, the moon, the truth." Melanie whispered, knowing Liam hated it but knew he had to do it. Liam rolled his eyes, resting his head on Melanie's shoulder. "The sun, the moon... the truth." He started and Melanie nodded as he continued. "The sun, the moon, the truth."
...
When Melanie and Liam pulled up to the school campus for study hall, Melanie thought about the hours prior at the hospital and her brows furrowed. As she got out of the car, she looked at Liam from over the car.
"Hey, do you know do what Mason and Belle did with that rat?" Melanie asked and Liam's eyes widened, looking away from Melanie as they walked towards the school. "Belle uh... lost it in the fight." Liam muttered and Mel's eyes practically popped out of her head, looking at Liam as if he was crazy. "She lost it? Oh my God. Melissa's gonna kill us." She mumbled, shaking her head as she looked to the ground in worry.
Liam nodded in agreement with Melanie, shrugging. "I don't think we can ever go back there again." He said and Melanie turned to him, with a small glare. "I live with her!" Melanie whisper yelled.
A dopey smile grew on Liams face as he reached for Melanie's hand, squeezing it. "Stay with me." Liam shrugged out and Melanie rolled her eyes, holding back a smile as they walked into the school.
Melanie and Liam took turns left and right down the hallways, trying to get to their lockers and when they did their last turn down the hallway, they skidded to a stop, watching Parrish and another Hellhound fight in the school hallway. "That's a..." Liam muttered and Melanie pulled her lips into a line, nodding her head. "Hellhound. Yep." She said, making the other Hellhound turn to Melanie and Liam, his eyes turning an even brighter orange than before.
The Hellhound fighting Parrish grew angry at the sight of Melanie and Liam. He roamed as he picked Parrish up by his neck before throwing him into the doors on the opposite side of the hallway, the deputy flying through them and hitting the wall outside.
Melanie's eyes widened in shock and fear, not knowing if Parrish was still alive.
"Something you let out. It must be stopped." The Hellhound growled at the two teens, making Melanie whip her head back to him, her and Liams brows furrowing. Liam leaned towards Melanie in confusion, keeping his eyes on the Hellhound. "Is he talking to you?" Liam whispered and Melanie pursed her lips. "I hope not."
The Hellhound roared at them, the flames around him getting bigger. Liam's eyes widened, sticking his arm out to push Melanie back behind him. "Get behind me." Liam whispered and Melanie turned to him as if he were crazy, shaking her head. "Hell no!"
The Hellhound roared at the teens and ran for them. Instead of letting Liam protect her, Melanie pushed passed him, making her katana appear in her hands as she ran towards the Hellhound.
She raised her katana as she and the Hellhound both jumped towards each other. Melanie slammed her arm down, the sword hitting the man on his shoulder blade. The Hellhound roared in pain, hitting the round, slowly losing the flames around him.
Melanie landed, her hand falling as she looked down at the tired man. He slowly looked up at Melanie before his eyes turned back to orange and he snarled. Before Melanie could defend herself, the Hellhound grabbed the blade of her katana, her weapon melting at his touch.
"Shit!" Melanie yelled, dropping her sword, backing up slightly as she tried to think of something she can make a appear that wouldn't melt. The Hellhound growled at her, taking slow strides towards her. "If the wild hunt couldn't keep you, nothing can."
Melanies eyes widened and her heart dropped at his words, her hand opening and closing in a fist as she tried to think of a weapon. Liam growled from behind Melanie, running passed her and towards the Hellhound. Liam slashed the Hellhounds stomach and Melanie, still not thinking of anything, just let another katana appear.
She ran towards Liam and the Hellhound, stabbing him just a little bit higher than where Liam slashed him. The Hellhound roared, glaring at Melanie and Liam. In one quick and swift movement, he used both hands to slash Melanie and Liam in their stomachs.
Melanie groaned in pain, some of her shirt in flames. She backed up quickly, whacking her shirt to get rid of the flames when her back hit the lockers. She turned her head and saw the Hellhound running towards Liam who was bent over in pain.
Melanie had a spear appear from her hands and quickly, she threw her arm back before throwing it towards the Hellhound.
The Hellhound roared in pain, giving Liam enough time to stumble away, falling back into the lockers beside Melanie. The Hellhound slowly walked backwards too, and when his back hit the lockers, he looked to Melanie and Liam shaking his head. "No. No, it's not you."
He pushed himself off the lockers as Melanie's brows furrowed, watching as the orange in his eyes and the fire he was engulfed in disappeared. "It won't stay hidden. It must be stopped. Nothing else matters." He said before pushing himself off the lockers, running out of the school.
Melanie watched the man go with a "what the hell" look on her face and when he was out of her sight, she groaned in pain, leaning her head back and hitting it on the lockers. "What... the hell was that?" Melanie asked out of breath, lazily turning her head to Liam, her hands holding the burns and slashes on her stomach to quicken the healing process.
Liam let out an equally tired breath, shaking his head. "I have no clue."
...
"I got you. I got you." Melanie whispered to Liam as she helped carry him into the boys locker room, Liam putting almost all his weight on Melanie.
When Melanie helped him down onto the floor, she got right in front of him, carefully grabbing the top button his shirt and unbuttoning the shirt, gently taking it off so she could look at his wounds. "Okay. Okay. Easy..." She whispered when she heard Liams hisses in pain from Melanie taking off his shirt.
Melanie winced just at the sight of all of the burns on Liams chest, making Liam, who was watching Melanie, look down at his chest, his eyes widening at all the burns. "It should be healing faster than this." He grunted out and Melanie shook her head, her hands just above the burns as she started to heal them. "It's Hellfire. I mean, all things considered, you're doing great."
Liam scoffed, looking down at the burns on his chest. "Well, great isn't supposed to look like this." He grumbled and Melanie gave him a reassuring smile as she helped heal him faster. "Give it a minute." She whispered, giving Liam a reassuring smile.
When he started to heal a little faster with the help of Melanie, Melanie sighed, moving to sit beside Liam against the lockers. It was quiet for a few seconds, Melanie still trying to catch her breath from her fight with the Hellhound before she started laughing, turning to look up at the ceiling. "We fought a Hellhound on our own, without Scott."
Liam let out a tired and breathy laugh at Melanie's words. He turned to look at her, a faint smile on his face. "I don't know when I'll get used to that." He said and Melanie shook her head, laughing slightly. "Me neither." She muttered. Liam looked at Melanie, smiling at the small smile on her face before slowly resting his head on her shoulder.
Melanie blushes at the action, scoffed out a laugh before she rested her head a top Liams.
