New Kid
Melanie ran out of her house for the school day. Belle lived a few houses down so they always walked together. Just as she was about to turn away from her house and towards Belle's, she stopped at the big red and white sign in her front yard. Melanie ran to the sign, pulling it out of the grass and ran back towards the house. "Mom! Kira!"
Kira ran into the living room from her room just as Melanie got back into the house. "What is this?" Melanie asked her mom as Kira's eyes went wide at what was in her little sisters hands.
"A 'For Sale' sign. It lets people know your house is for sale." Their mother said with a smile as their father sipped his coffee from the table. "I thought you were going to talk to them."
Noshiko sighed. "Mel, Kira, we told you two this was temporary." "That was after you told us we were kitsunes, and were going to have to destroy a dark spirit by stabbing and killing one of the few friends we've made in this town." Kira rambled and their mother smiled. "And you didn't have to. I call that a win."
"We're not going back to New York." Melanie announced and Noshiko raised her brows. "And why would we stay?" Melanie pursed her lips, looking around the house. "Because... Well..." "Dad's a very important teacher at the high school." Kira helped Melanie think of something, making the younger one of the two nod wildly.
"In New York, I was a professor at Columbia." Their dad said and Melanie quickly turned to glare at him. "You two will make new friends." "Not like these." Melanie whispered, shaking her head as she bit her lip.
"You don't know them like we do." She continued and Kira nodded. "Lydia, Stiles, Malia..." "Belle." "And Scott?" Noshiko asked Kira with raised brows.
"Who?" Kira asked and Melanie groaned, pulling her hand to her face. "He wasn't your first boyfriend and he won't be your last." Noshiko told her before turning to Melanie. "And you'll make new friends."
Melanie's jaw dropped at her mothers words as her and their father walked out of the house. "But Belle's my best friend." Melanie whispered as Kira let out a sad sigh. "And Scott's not my boyfriend."
...
"And that is how you do it Beacon Hills!" Belle cheered, spinning around in front of the goal after she caught the ball Melanie threw. Melanie smirked, picking up the ball with her lacrosse stick and throwing it towards the goal, the ball whizzing passed Belle, making her shriek at how close the ball got to her.
Melanie laughed, turning to Belle, expecting a glare but instead, Belle's jaw dropped, confusing Mel when she realized Belle was looking just passed her at something. She turned around and her eyes fell on a boy at the net across the field, catching every single ball being thrown at him.
"Way to go, Liam!" Garret screamed and Melanie's jaw dropped at Liam when she suddenly felt two people run up beside her.
She turned to see who it was and saw Stiles and Scott worriedly gripping their lacrosse sticks. "What are you two doing?" Belle asked, tipping the helmet up and off her head so they could see her face. "Practicing." Stiles muttered and Melanie shrugged, throwing another ball to Belle.
...
"What are they doing?" Melanie whispered as Belle pressed her ear against the door of the boys locker room to hear Scott and Stiles.
Belle didn't answer, instead, groaning. "They're interrogating the kid like he's some murderer." Melanie raised her eyebrows, letting out a dry chuckle as she leaned against the wall, crossing her arms. "Oh, delightful." Belle squinted her eyes as she listened before her eyes widened and she grabbed Melanie's arm. "Someone's coming. Come on." Belle whispered, trying to pull Melanie down the hall but just as the Yukimura girl got in front of the locker room door, it opened, hitting her in the head. Belle quickly let go as she hid behind a wall.
Melanie groaned as she stumbled a bit but felt a pair of hands land on her waist, steadying her. "Woah. Oh my God. I'm so sorry." The voice of a boy rambled and Melanie opened her eyes, Liam standing right in front of her.
Melanie shook her head, straightening up as Liam let go of her waist but watched her careful just in case. "It's okay. I'm fine." Melanie mumbled, rubbing her head as Liam sighed. "Well, um... I'm Liam." Melanie let a small smile grow on her lips. "Melanie. But everyone calls me Mel."
Liam nodded, looking down for a moment before looking back up at her. "I saw you playing on the field. You're good. You trying out?" Melanie nodded again as she moved her hand from her head and looked to Liam. "You?" Liam nodded as well and Melanie let out a small hum, the awkward silence starting to take over.
"Well, if you ever need anything. I kinda owe you one now for hitting your face with a door but I'll see you later, Mel." Liam said going to walk away. Melanie turned, watching him walk away and waved even though his back was to her. "See ya."
As soon as Liam turned the corner out of the hall, Melanie shut her eyes in embarrassment, shaking her head.
She heard a cackle from behind the girls locker room doors and Mel's head shot up, her eyes falling on a laughing Belle. Melanie rolled her eyes, holding back the smallest smile as she walked passed her friend. "Don't laugh."
...
Even without the enhanced powers, Melanie ad Belle were very good at lacrosse; Belle used to watch Scott and Stiles play back when she was a little 13 year old werewolf and only hanging out with the two sophomores because Scott was one as well and once Melanie came into town, Belle dragged her in and the two grew good at the sport, wanting to try out.
"Terrible... Horrifying... Pathetic... Unbelievably pathetic." Coach groaned at almost every kid that passed. Melanie rested her hands on her knees at the finish line as she tried to catch her breath.
"Is that everyone?" Stiles ran up beside Melanie, leaning on her, making her quickly try to catch him before he brought both of them to the floor just as Scott and Belle ran up, each of them wrapping an arm around Stiles to keep him up.
"Who came in first?" Stiles asked, turning to Mel since she was in front of him. Melanie pulled her lips into a line, turning to Liam who was doing push ups on the ground, not even breaking a sweat.
"He isn't human. What is he? Like a Were-Cheetah?" Stiles breathed out at Melanie's brows furrowed. "Does it even exist?" Stiles looked at her a weakly shrugged. "Who cares?"
"I think he's just good." She replied, looking back to the boy. "I'm gonna puke, take me somewhere." Stiles said and Belle quickly let go of him, backing away as Scott pulled Stiles off the field.
...
After a small water break, everyone got into a line in front of the goal, practicing for throws. Belle was goalie, Stiles was first, Melanie right after him and Liam behind her. Stiles picked up the ball with his stick and Melanie patted his back lightly. He threw the ball and it went straight into the Belle's stick, not even having to move.
Melanie sighed as the line laughed. As Stiles went to walk down the line, he gave a pat on Melanie's shoulder like she had done for him. Melanie gripped her stick tightly, taking a deep breath before picking up the ball.
She twirled the stick in her hand as she watched the goalie. Her eyes squinted as her nose twitched and in a quick few steps, she threw her arms back, using the stick to throw the ball and much to her surprise, the ball passed Belle. Melanie smiled, throwing her arms up slightly as she let out a small laugh, the team and Coach applauding, Belle cheering from the goal.
Melanie walked towards Stiles and Scott as they all kept their eyes on Liam since he was next. "You know, maybe he's only good in goal. You know, just totally useless on the rest of the field." Stiles breathed out in an almost hopeful manner.
They watched as Liam did the same thing as Melanie, the ball whizzing passed Belle. Stiles groaned as Melanie shut her eyes, sighing. "Maybe he's just perfect at everything. I hate this kid!" Stiles grumbled and Scott pursed his lips, shrugging. "You don't have to hate him. The team needs new players."
Melanie turned to Scott, pointing at her and Belle across the field. "Right here. Two new players." Scott sighed, shaking his head. "You know what I mean."
"What about a new team captain?" Stiles asked and Scott's eyes went wide as he stepped up, picking up the ball with his stick. He threw the ball and the three friends watching stood on their toes in anticipation.
Until the ball hit the metal edge of the net.
Melanie shut her eyes as the team minus her, Belle and Stiles laughed. "Nice, McCall." Garret called out and Melanie turned to him with an evil glare. "Hey, Garrett... Shut up!"
Melanie turned backto Stiles, a small smirk on his face. "You know, when Garret goes I can make the grass all slippery and muddy, make him fall and mess up." Melanie whispered and Stiles straightened up at the mention of using her powers. "No. No. Not Garret. Maybe Liam." Stiles whispered as Scott walked up behind them. "No." The alpha announced, startling the two.
...
Practice went on like that for a while; Liam making every shot, Melanie getting almost every shot and Scott and Stiles missing every single one.
"Dude, what is going on with you?" Stiles asked as Scott walked back over to the three in line. "I don't know. I'm having a really off day." Melanies eyebrows raised at his words as she crossed her arms. "Off day? Dude... You suck!"
"I feel actual physical pain watching you." Stiles muttered and Scott turned to him. "I didn't see you make any shots." "Yeah, but he's terrible." Melanie said. Stiles turned to her, offended before realizing she was right and looked back to Scott. "You... You are the Alpha."
"Not on the field. I'm a human on the field." Scott said and Melanie let out a dry laugh. "Well, human you sucks." Scott glared at her and she immediately rose her hands in surrender, backing away slightly. "Do you think there is any way you can use just like a little tiny bit of wolf power?" Stiles asked and Scott shook his head. "It's cheating."
"I know it is! It's just I hate seeing this little freshman come in and steal all your glory after you worked your tushie off. I hate it." Stiles said and Melanie furrowed her brows. "Did you just say tushie?"
"He's not going to steal all the glory." Scott muttered as the team started to cheer again. Liam made another score. Melanie bit her lip getting back in line as she sighed, looking to Scott. "You sure about that?"
Coach blew his whistle, clapping his hands. "Hustle! McCall and Stilinski, grab the long sticks. You're covering goal for two-on-ones. Let's go! Line it up!" Coach screamed and the two boys went to walk away from the girl as Belle left the goal, walking towards the line as Melanie screamed after Scott and Stiles.
"Hey, I know you two are protecting the goal or whatever but I swear to God if you tackle me just for the hell of it, I'll break you!" Melanie's words were mainly directed towards Stiles, both boys knowing that. The Stilinski boy raised his arms in surrender when a chuckle was heard from behind her.
Melanie turned around, her eyes falling on Liam who was watching her yell and as soon as he realized he was caught, he cleared his throat, turning away.
Garret was up first, immediately being knocked to the ground by the two boys. Scott and Stiles did a little hand shake in victory as Melanie got ready to go.
She tried to steady her breathing as she twirled the stick in her hand before running to the net. She surprisingly made it passed Scott, he was trying to go high so she ducked under his arms, she spun around, chuckling at Scott while Stiles cleared his throat, sticking his leg out and since Melanie was running backwards, she tripped.
The team laughed as she groaned. Stiles stood above her, holding a hand out to help her up but Melanie closed her eyes. She slowly had a piece of grass by Stiles' leg grow, wrapping around his leg. Stiles yelped, jumping away, making the whole team turn to him. Melanie smirked, getting herself up, wiping the dirt off of her equipment before walking to the back of the line and when she turned around, her eyes went wide at who was next.
Melanie gulped as Liam stepped up, swinging his stick around in preparation. "Scott... Don't do anything stupid." Melanie whispered, knowing he could hear her. She could see Scott faintly nod his head as Coach blew his whistle.
Liam ran for the goal, Scott and Stiles trying to block him but he passed both of them, throwing the ball. Melanie and Belle's jaw dropped as the ball made the net.
"That was luck!" A voice screamed from the bleachers. Melanie chuckle at Malia standing up, yelling at Coach. "Do-over!"
"Sweetheart, there's no do-overs. This is a practice." Coach yelled back at Belle groaned from beside Melanie, cupping her own mouth. "Malia! Bet!" Belle yelled and Melanie quickly elbowed her in the ribs as Malia nodded. "Yeah! I'll bet! Ten bucks on Scott and Stiles." Coach nodded, pointing at Malia. "I'll take that action. Hey! Get back in there, Liam!"
Liam didn't hesitate to walk back up and as soon as Coach blew his whistle, he went running.
Belle straightened up, and Melanie could quickly tell she was getting worried. "What? What's wrong?" Melanie asked as Belle's eyes grew wide. "I think I just heard Scott growl." Melanie's face dropped as she looked back towards the field.
She watched as both Scott and Stiles ran towards Liam. Melanie tried to concentrate on the grass ahead of Scott, trying to turn it into mud so Scott wouldn't hurt the boy but he was too fast. In one quick movement, Scott flipped Liam over, a sickening crack echoing through the air as he landed.
Scott and Stiles ran towards Liam, Melanie and Belle right behind them. "Don't move! Don't touch him!" Coach screamed and the four skidded to a stop as Liam shook his head, trying to get up. "I'm okay, Coach. I'm all right." As soon as he put weight on his foot, he screamed in pain, falling back but Melanie and Belle quickly caught him since they were the ones directly behind him.
"I think it's my leg." Liam breathed out, mindlessly resting his head on Melanie's shoulder but she didn't mind, turning to Coach. "I think we better get him to the nurse."
Coach nodded, gesturing for them to go as he turned back to the rest of the team. "You guy's take a lap. Run around... Start running around the field!"
Melanie and Belle practically carried Liam to the nurse as Liam grunted in pain. "You guys don't have to do this." Liam groaned as Melanie readjusted herself so she could carry him better as Belle groaned. "Yeah, dude. You're gonna owe us. You're heavier than you look." Melanie whacked Belles shoulder, glaring at her from behind Liams head before turning to the injured boy. "You did well?"
Liam laughed, barely turning to Melanie. "Thanks. So did you." Melanie smiled as Liam turned to Belle. "You too." Belle rolled her eyes. "Yeah, whatever."
As soon as they got to the nurses office, the woman quickly pulled Liam into his own little room, leaving Melanie and Belle out in the little 'waiting room' as she checked on his leg.
The two girls sat in silence in the little waiting room for a few minutes until the nurse peaked her head out, waving the two girls into Liams room.
"Now, unfortunately, there is nothing I can do here to treat Mr. Dunbars leg. I've already asked him and he doesn't know anyone that could drive him. Do either of you?" The nurse asked and Melanie sighed as she nodded her head. "Yeah, we do."
