Nemeton Hunters

"She's right there, Mel. We just have to go over there and tell her." Belle breathed out as her and Melanie were squatted behind a car at the Sheriffs Station, watching as  Valerie Romero walked to her car.

"Oh, and say what? Hey, your little sister just died but hey, you can't see her because your colleague, Parrish took her away while he was on fire?!" Melanie whisper yelled back to Belle. The Parker girl looked at Melanie with wide eyes. "Well, when you put it like that..."

"What do you think you're doing?" Liam whisper yelled to Melanie and Belle from behind them, making the two girls jump slightly, turning to look back at him and Mason. The sound of an engine starting made the girls look back to their previous target who was driving away.

"Someone's got to tell her about Hayden." Belle said and Liam nodded before turning to Melanie. "Okay. And why are you here?" "I couldn't leave her alone like this." Melanie whispered and Belle groaned, rolling her eyes as she turned to them. "I can hear you."

Liam sighed, looking down at her. "Belle, that somebody that tell's Valerie... doesn't have to be you." Mason nodded, squinting at all the dirt and blood on her clothes. "Especially looking like this. I mean, what if they think you killed her?"

"Maybe I did." Belle whispered and Melanie instantly shook her head, grabbing her hand. "You didn't." Mason nodded, squatting down so he was at the same height as the girls, Liam doing the same right after him. "And while the last few hours haven't been your best... This isn't the way to fix it. She's going to find out, and it's not gonna hurt any less coming from you."

Liam straightened up abruptly, almost falling over from his squatted position, making Melanie turn to him from beside him. "What?"

Liam squinted his eyes as if it would help him believe what he was thinking was true. "It's Hayden." He whispered.

Belle's head whipped to Liam as Mason whacked the back of his head. "Dude, don't egg her on." Belle shook her head, jumping up from ground. "No, he's right. It's her scent. She's here."

Melanie sighed, standing up to meet Belle's height. "Belle, you held her body in your arms. We... We watched Parrish carry her out of the hospital." "She's... She's gone..." Mason added and Belle sighed, looking down at her feet.

"Hey, come on. Let's go. Let's go." Melanie whispered, wrapping an arm around Belle's shoulder and pulling her up to walk away from the parking lot.

...

"No, there have not been any other bodies brought in tonight, thank God." Liams stepdad said as he walked down the hall, the four sophomores trailing after him.

"No one named Hayden?" Belle abruptly asked, making Melanie whip around to face her. Liam's stepdad slowly turned around to face her. He sighed, looking to Liam. "Liam, take these girls home. It's 6:00 in the morning."

"Dad, you're sure there have been no other dead bodies?" Liam asked, still believing Hayden could still be alive. The man gave his stepson an 'are you serious' look before gesturing towards the exit of the hospital. "All of you. Home. Now."

Liam sighed, grabbing Melanie's hand and pulling her out of the hospital, Mason and Belle following after them. Belle ran to walk on the other side of Liam as Mason went to the other side of Melanie.

"We're not going home, are we?" Melanie asked. Liam and Belle both quickly shook their heads. "No." They said in sync, making Melanie sigh, resting her head on Liam's shoulder as they walked. "Well, we all know where Hayden's body is. And if you want to find her, you're going to have to find the Nemeton."

Liam pursed his lips, looking down at Melanie as he shrugged. "Okay. Let's find the Nemeton." Liam quickly kissed Melanie's forehead before walking faster, pulling Melanie after him since their hands were conjoined.

Mason sighed, leaning towards Melanie. "You need to learn to shut up." Melanie rolled her eyes, turning to Mason with a small smile on her face. "You think?"

...

The four ran into the library, following Mason as he ran towards a bookshelf that he had been to hundreds of times to learn more about the supernatural. He immediately grabbed a book off the shelf, running towards the tables and opening it up.

"All right. This is the one. You see these. These are Ley Lines. They're mapped according to telluric currents." Mason said as he pointed at the red lines on the map. Melanie nodded, looking up at the group. "Stiles said that he and Lydia were looking at the intersections."

"Probably... This one." Belle said, pointing down at a spot where two red lines met. Liam sighed, nodding his head. "But they never found it. They kept going out there to look, but they said the Nemeton has to want to be found."

"It's a supernatural tree that has to want to be found in order for you to see it?" Mason asked, a small smile on his face. Melanie chuckled, looking up at Mason. "Yeah."

"That's awesome. We should just make a copy-" Mason was cut off by Liam ripping the paper out of the book, making Melanie and Mason's eyes go wide as Liam and Belle walked away. Mason sighed, turning to Melanie. "Or... that works too..."

...

"This is it. There should be a clearing here. Maybe the clearing doesn't want to be found either." Mason said, throwing his hands in the air as he looked around the empty woods.

Belle sighed, kicking her feet in the dirt. "I couldn't save her." Melanie shook her head, walking towards Belle. "No one could. I was standing right there. Melissa did everything medically possible-" "While I was crying to Scott." Belle interrupted, making Liam shake his head.

"You can't take all the blame." Mason nodded, walking up to Belle from beside Melanie. "I mean, there was, like, 800 extenuating circumstances."

"It wasn't just the moon." Melanie whispered, putting her hands on her shoulders and moving her face in front of Belle's so she could look her in the eyes.

"It was losing Hayden. In fear, anger, and Theo took advantage of it." Liam said and Belle instantly shook her head. "Or maybe it was just me."

Liam shook his head, tilting his head. "Belle, you're a werewolf. There was a full moon, a Super moon. And you can't let yourself..." Melanie slowly turned to Liam after his sentence slowed. "What?"

Liam turned to Melanie, a small smile on his face. "The Nemeton's a beacon for supernatural creatures, right?" Melanie's brows furrowed, nodding her head. "Yeah."

"So what if it takes a supernatural creature to find it." Liam said and Melanie squinted at him, shaking her head slightly. "Liam, three out of four of us are supernatural creature and we can't find anything."

"But we've been looking with your human eyes." Liam said, flashing his eyes yellow at her. Melanie's eyes went wide in realization, turning to Belle who already had her yellow eyes. Melanie let her kitsune eyes glow a bright green, slowly standing up.

Melanie's eyes widened at the Nemeton just passed a few rows of trees. "Awesome."

"What?" Mason asked, looking back and forth between the three shocked supernaturals. "Look." Belle whispered.

Mason turned to where they were looking, shaking his head. "I don't see any-" Mason was cut off by Melanie, Liam and Belle grabbing Mason; Belle and Liam grabbing Masons arms from either side him as Melanie, who was standing in front of him, threw her hand back, landing just above his collarbone, letting them see what they could see. Mason gasped, a small smile growing on his lips. "Intense."

The four ran to the Nemeton, looking over all of the bodies. After double checking three times, Belle groaned, throwing her hands into her hair. "There's only four here."  Melanie nodded, rechecking the bodies again. "That means four Chimeras are missing."

"I only care about one. Hayden's alive. She has to be." Belle said and Mason slowly walked towards her. "Okay, maybe you're right. Either way, we gotta tell someone about this." Liam nodded in agreement with Mason, walking up beside Melanie, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "We get the cops down here and they can figure out who's dead, who's alive and who's whatever. Sound good?" Liam asked Belle. The blonde sighed, going to answer his question before flashlights blinded them.

"You four. Stay right where you are." The officer behind the flashlight said as the four slowly started to raise their hands. Melanie squinted as a figure walked in front of teh flashlight before they could finally make out the person. Hayden.

"That's it. That's where I found the bodies. Four of them." Hayden said, keeping her eyes on Belle who looked like she had seen a ghost. "Holy shit." Melanie breathed out, Liam nodding his head from beside her.
