Hiding Something
Melanie watched from one of the aisles in the library as Nolan walked in. Heads turned and whispers started to seep around the room. Nolan froze at the kids around him and Melanie felt a small sting of happiness, glad that Nolan is getting a taste of his own medicine.
Nolan texted Melanie earlier in the morning, asking if she could meet with him in the library during their free period. Alone.
Melanie said she'd meet with him, but he was crazy if he really thought Melanie would meet with him alone. Liam was one aisle over, hidden with his nose in a book so Nolan wouldn't see him.
Nolan's eyes stayed fixated on all the other students eyes on him as he backed into the aisle he was supposed to meet Melanie in. Melanie watched him with raised brows, her arms crossed and a small smirk on her face.
"Doesn't feel good, does it?" Melanie asked, making Nolan jump, a small yelp passing through his lips as he turned around. Nolan calmed down when he realized it was just Melanie and walked further into the aisle. "You know why they're looking at you like that?" Melanie asked and Nolan looked around the library before turning back to her.
"They're afraid of me?" He asked and Melanie shook her head. "They're afraid of what you're gonna say, and who you're gonna say it to. Nobody trusts you anymore." Melanie snapped and Nolan shook his head, taking a step closer to Melanie. "Then why are you here? How come you texted me back?" Nolan asked and Melanie immediately took an angry step closer to him, catching Nolan off guard, his eyes widening at how fast her demeanor changed.
"Cause maybe this time I'll kick your ass." Melanie warned before she sarcastically pursed her lips and shrugged. "Or maybe I'll just go all Kill Bill on your ass and use my katana."
Nolan quickly shook his head, holding his hands up out to Melanie in almost a pleading manner. "I said I was going to help. I can show you something. Something I know you're gonna wanna see."
Melanie squinted at Nolan, her eyes falling just past him to Liam, who was peaking over from the next aisle over, his brows furrowed in confusion. Melanie quickly looked back up at Nolan. "Where?"
"At the hospital." Nolan said, visibly calming. Melanie on the other hand, didn't calm. She did not want to go anywhere with Nolan.
"Why don't you just tell me what it is?" Melanie asked and Nolan shook his head. He looked up and down the aisle to see if anyone was listening in before he leaned closer to Melanie. "Because I have a plan." Nolan whispered.
Melanie held back her chuckle, raising her brows in curiosity and amusement. "You have a plan?" She asked and Nolan nodded again. "Yeah. Yeah, I... I'm gonna show you what you need to see at the hospital. Then you're gonna kick my ass so Miss Monroe thinks that you had to beat the information out of me."
"Yeah, I'm good with that plan." Liam said, walking into the aisle to make his presence known. Nolan's eyes widened, watching Liam for a couple seconds before he turned back to Melanie, his mouth opening and closing.
Melanie just smiled at Nolan, shrugging her shoulders. "He's coming too."
...
"Scott?"
Belle, who was in Melanie's room looking for a jacket to borrow, furrowed her brows at Lydia's yell. Belle was home alone so she grabbed the jacket and started heading down the stairs.
"Hello, Lydia." Belle heard Peter announce.
"What are you doing here?" Lydia asked Peter once Belle got to the bottom of the staircase. "Looking for Malia. What are you doing here?" Peter asked.
"Looking for Scott, obviously. Did you not hear her?" Belle asked, making her presence known to the two. Peter and Lydia turned around to Belle, Lydia letting out a small gasp seeing Belle.
"What are you doing here?" Peter asked, squinting at the blonde. Belle looked around the house before turning back to Peter. "I live here." She said before she crossed her arms, raising her brows at the man. "Why are you looking for Malia?"
"Parental concern." Peter snapped at Belle before he looked to Lydia beside her. "Why didn't you just call Scott?"
"I can't reach him." Lydia shrugged, her arms crossing over her chest. Peter sighed as he pulled his phone out of his pocket and saw he still had no reception. "Well, I can't reach her, or anyone. There's reports that several cell phone towers in the area are down."
"Monroe and Gerard?" Belle asked. There was no doubt that this was done by them. Peter turned to Belle and clenched his jaw as he nodded. "They're cutting us off from the outside."
Belle sighed. She ran a hand through her hair as she motioned between Peter and Lydia. "And from each other."
...
Nolan led Liam and Melanie through the back doors of the hospital. When they reached the end of the hallway, Nolan stuck his arm out, stopping Melanie and Liam from walking past him.
Melanie watched as Nolan peaked his head out from behind the wall before he turned back to her and Liam. "See that guy?" He asked, making Liam and Melanie copy his actions and peaking their heads out from behind the wall.
Melanie's eyes landed on a man she's never seen at the hospital sit behind the main front desk. Her brows furrowed and Nolan noticed. "That's why we didn't come in the front door." He explained.
Melanie turned around to face him, leaning her back against the wall. "Who is he?" She asked as Liam watched Nolan with a quirked brow.
"He's with Monroe. He was there last night. They handed him a gun like everyone else." Nolan said. His eyes fell just past Liam and Melanie and he straightened up, pointing at who he was looking at. "You see that, that nurse right there?"
Melanie and Liam turned around and watched a nurse walk across the waiting room.
"She was standing right behind me. There's more than you think and they're not just Hunters. It's anyone and everyone who's willing to pick up a gun. Last night they were teaching them how to use them, how to load clips, what to do if the gun jams."
Melanie shook her head in shock. Nurses, doctors, hell anyone that works in a hospital should be helping people, not getting guns to kill them. "Nurses?" She whispered and Nolan shook his head. "Everyone."
Liam could hear Melanie's heart picking up it's pace. He knew she's always wanted to be a doctor and seeing so many be so cruel in one moment was a lot for her. Liam turned around to Nolan, a small growl leaving his mouth as he glared at him. "So this is what you wanted to show us? That people hate us? We could've figured this out on our own." Liam snapped and Nolan quickly shook his head.
"But it's not just that." He blurted, causing Melanie to finally look away from the nurses and doctors passing by. Her brows were furrowed and so were Liams, making Nolan smile.
"Come with me." He said. With that, he turned around and started walking around the opposite hall. Melanie turned to Liam, quietly asking if they should trust him.
Liam looked back at Melanie, grabbing her hand and started to walk after Nolan, pulling Melanie along with him.
Melanie strayed to notice Nolan was leading them to the ICU. They walked further and further down the hall, the cold taking over little by little with every step.
Nolan finally stopped in front of one of the last doors in the ICU. He turned around to Melanie and Liam before he slowly reached for the cold metal door handle.
The door opened with a faint creak. Nolan walked in first, then Liam and Melanie last. Her eyes scanned over the quiet room, the only sound coming from it were the beeps of three heart rate monitors.
Melanie turned her head to the sounds and saw three men in hospital beds. Melanie's breath hitched at the sight, but the main thing that caught her eyes was the color of the liquid in their IV bags. They were purple.
"They brought them in yesterday." Nolan said as Melanie slowly started to walk towards the men. If there was wolfsbane in the men's IVs, that means they're supernatural.
And considering it was Monroe's men that took them, they're probably innocent. Melanie frowned at the thought, her mind making her think that this could've been Scott, Liam or Belle if they made one wrong move.
"Who are they?" Melanie asked quietly, her hand reaching out to the purple IV bag.
"I- I don't know." Nolan stuttered out before he realized she was holding one of the men's IV bags. "Do you know what that is?" He asked and Melanie nodded, looking back to Nolan and Liam, silently showing Liam the IV.
"Wolfsbane." The couple answered at the same time. Lima walked up to Melanie, his eyes scanning the IV, watching as it led straight into his arm. Liam's brows furrowed, reaching out to grab the end of the IV a that was in the man's arm. "Can't we just pull them out?" He asked and Melanie quickly grabbed his hand, stopping him.
"No, don't remove the IVs. You don't know what's gonna happen. Let's just... wait it out." Melanie said. Her eyes trialed up to look into Liams eyes and when their eyes met, Liam calmed down, nodding his head.
For their peripheral vision, Melanie and Liam could see Nolan walk out of the room. "Oh, hell no." Melanie muttered, walking away from Liam to follow after Nolan.
Melanie quickly caught up to Nolan. She grabbed his shoulder and pushed him up against the wall, her eyes darkening as she looked at him. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Not so fast." Melanie muttered almost tauntingly.
Nolan's eyes widened in fear as she tilted her head. "What about our deal?" Melanie asked, talking about when Nolan had said she and Liam gets to beat him up.
Nolan let out a shaky breath, going to try and shrug his shoulders, but couldn't under Melanie's grasp. "Nobody saw you come in with me..."
"So?" Melanie asked and Nolan's fear reappeared on his face. "So..." He repeated Melanie's words. Liam shrugged from behind Melanie. "Well, that was the only part of the plan that we liked." He said and Nolan's face paled.
Melanie suddenly felt guilt start to deep across her conscience. She was scaring him. She never truly wanted to scare someone, even if that someone was Nolan. Sure, she wasn't a fan of him, but she would hate for someone to actually think that of her.
Melanie blinked a couple times. She looked at Nolan with big, almost regretful eyes. Nolan started to calm at the look spread across Melanie's face. She let go of his shoulders and took a step back, accidentally bumping into Liam.
She stumbled, still in partial shock. Liam grabbed Melanie's waist, holding her steady as Melanie looking to her right down the empty hallway. Melanie turned back to Nolan and gestured her head in the direction she was just watching.
"Go." She whispered. Nolan's eyes widened. He looked back and forth between Melanie and Liam before he ran down the hallway.
Melanie watched the boy run and once he was out a sight, Melanie let out a shaky breath. Tears started to pool in her eyes and Liam quickly pulled her into his chest.
Melanie wrapped her arms around Liams waist, pulling him closer as if they weren't already chest to chest. "He was scared of me." She whispered. Her voice was shaky and weak.
Liam moved one of his hands to go to the back of her head, running his hands through her hair as she let out another shaky breath. "They're all scared of me." She whispered again and Liam frowned. He looked down at Melanie and kissed the top of her head as the hospital lights started to flicker.
Melanie slowly removed her face from Liams body, looking up at the flickering lights above them. The lights turned off and commotion from everyone's confusion across the hospital started to echo down the hall.
Liam looked down to Melanie as she looked up at him. The emergency lights turned on, not as bright as the normal ones.
...
Belle, Peter, and Lydia walked into the back room of the clinic, hoping to find... well, anybody there, but it was empty. Belle sighed when she didn't catch any recent scent of Scott or Malia's.
"They haven't been here." She said as she leaned forward against the cool metal table, Peter coming to stand beside her while Lydia stood across from them, her eyes darting in almost a panicked state. "Maybe we should go to the school." She suggested and Belle's face fell, worried for the girl.
"Lydia, you never said why you were waiting for Scott." Belle said and Lydia finally turned to look across the table to Belle. It was the first time today Lydia actually looked her in the eyes. She looked terrified to be looking at Belle
The eye contact barely lasted five seconds before Lydia moved her gaze to Peter, keeping them on him instead. "Last night, I woke up saying two words that might just be from a dream, or it might be something else."
"What two words?" Peter asked and Lydia bit her lip before she spoke.
"'Where's Jackson?'"
Peter's brows furrowed as Belle frowned in disgust. "Ew." Belle muttered, remembering the boy from when she was in the eighth grade and Scott and Stiles were sophomores.
"That is disturbing on multiple levels. What else?" Peter asked and Lydia almost instantly clamped her mouth shut, not wanting to share any more of her dream. Peter groaned, tilting his head at Lydia's antics. "Lydia, don't hold back on me, I never held back on you." He said.
Lydia looked up at the two across from her, looking Peter in the eyes and not meeting Belle's before she sighed, her eyes staying trained on Peter again. "I saw you... Turned to stone." She said and both Peter and Belle straightened up as Lydia continued.
"I was in a storage container. It was steel. There was a blue wall. I saw everyone, even Derek and Ethan. All of you turned to stone. Except..." Lydia stopped herself and quickly looked down. She couldn't say the rest of her dream.
"Except what?" Belle asked. Lydia swallowed, her eyes still on the table as she quickly shook her head. "Nothing." Lydia said, still not looking at Belle, her eyes falling on Peter. When Peter's eyes locked with Lydia's, he put two and two together. He finally started to understand why she wouldn't look Belle in the eyes and why he could smell the fear off of her.
He knew what she was hiding.
Peter eyes flickered to the young girl next to him before he turned back to Lydia with a sigh, not wanting to think about what Lydia saw. He bit Belle when she was so young, he watched her grow up even though he was never really on her side much. He almost saw her like a daughter figure. "Storage... Do you mean shipping container?" Peter asked, and Lydia perked up. "Yeah! I was surrounded by them." Lydia said and Peter slowly nodded.
"I think I know where that is." He said and Lydia smiled, nodding her head eagerly. "Then you know how to find Scott." She said and they all quickly walked out of the backroom of the clinic, heading towards the parking lot.
As they walked towards Lydia's car, Belle felt her phone buzz. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and looked down at Melanie's text telling her to come to the hospital immediately.
Belle looked up from the text to Peter and Lydia ahead of her before turning off her phone and pushing it back into her pocket. Lydia and Peter were hiding something. And she was gonna stick with them to find out.
