Fox Fire
Melanie chest was tight. After the Nogitsune ripped the ring from around Melanie's neck and threw it into the distance, she has been too petrified to even move let alone look at the rest of the pack who had witnessed the scene.
She felt like she was in an out of body experience, watching everyone else around her as if she wasn't there with them.
As the sound of the fighting came closer, Melanie turned her head and realized it was Scott, Eli, and Allison fighting the Oni. Melanie shimmied up in her spot against the ground, catching Liam's attention. The boy looked down at Melanie before turning his head to the three fighting.
"We can't kill them. Not without Silver. We need Parrish. We need to buy him more time." Scott yelled as he knocked an Oni to the ground. Theo turned to Melanie. "Can you make something silver?" Theo whisper yelled from the rock a couple of feet away from Melanie.
Melanie turned to face him, wiggling her fingers from behind her back for him to see. "I can, but since my hands are behind my back I may... you know... stab myself on accident. Then I won't be any good!" Melanie sarcastically snapped, making Theo roll his eyes.
Scott was thrown towards Melanie and Liam by one of the Oni. He groaned when he hit the ground. At the same time, an idea popped into Melanie's head.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Melanie hadn't mastered it yet—hell, she's only read about it, but she put her fox into Scott. She opened her eyes and they flashed green for a split second. Scott's eyes widen as he watched Melanie, feeling her fox enter his body.
Melanie grew lightheaded at the loss of her fox, but kept herself up so it wouldn't look suspicious to the nogitsune. It didn't help at all when Lydia's wail echoed throughout the forest, bursting her eardrums.
"Allison!"
Melanie groaned in pain at Lydia's wail, holding back everything in her not to scream in pain. She dropped her head in hopes it would silence some of the girls cries, but since she didn't have her fox, Melanie lost her ability to heal faster. She felt blood run down her ears, and all she could hear was a constant ringing.
Out of the corner of his eyes, Liam could see Melanie. After some maneuvering, he found a way to be able to hold onto Melanie's wrist even with his hands still tied and take her pain.
"We're not done yet." The nogitsune's voice echoed. Melanie slowly turned her head, getting a little dizzy at the action. She was barely able to hear him, but her hearing was slowly coming back. Melanie's eyes widened at the sight of the nogitsune, his hand to Eli's throat. "The game is mine."
Scott shook his head, taking a step closer towards the two, but when the Nogitsune pressed his claws a little tighter against Eli's neck, Scott took an immediate step back. "Take me. Let the others go." Scott tried to reason.
"All the lives here belong to me." The Nogitsune hissed. Scott shook his head, pointing at his own chest. "All you need is me."
"Scott, don't do this." Allison said, but Scott ignored her, keeping his eyes on the Nogitsune in front of him. "Allison kills me, I die in her arms, the same way that she died in mine. That's the move that wins the game, isn't it?"
"I've already won." The spirit taunted, only angering Scott. "You lose! Until I'm off the board! And I'm still standing. And I'm still the alpha." Scott screamed and Melanie could've sworn the ground shook a little from how loud he was. The nogitsune was taken aback by Scott's words. Even though the spirit didn't have a face, Melanie could tell he had become intrigued by Scott's words. "An arrow to the heart to save everyone else? All the other players go free."
Scott turned around to face Allison, his eyes landing on Melanie as he did so, silently asking her if this was going to work. Melanie nodded her head and Scott nodded back.
The nogitsune didn't notice the gesture between Scott and Melanie. He raised Allison's bow into the air and into her hands. Allison looked down at her bow and turned back to Scott. She shook her head, her mouth opening and closing as she tried to speak.
"No. No, I... I can't... I cannot... no." Allison said, her voice hoarse to hold back any form of a cry. Melanie tried to get Allison's attention to reassure her that Scott would be okay, but Allison couldn't look away from Scott.
"Allison, please. Don't make me watch my friends and my family die." Scott begged. Tears were in the Argent girls eyes as she slowly raised her bow.
Even though she knew the plan, Melanie couldn't watch Scott get shot. She turned her head and hid in Liam's shoulder. Melanie felt her heart lurch at the sound of Allison's bow getting drawn back and Scott's groans seconds later; by the third arrow, Melanie's eyes were squeezed and her jaw was clenched so tight in attempt to not hear Scott's groans, her head started to pound and she was sure her teeth were close to shattering.
She heard Scott collapse to the ground and seconds later, the nogitsune spoke. "The wolves howl to signal their position... To the rest of the pack. Tell me, Scott McCall, what is the sound of the wolf who is ready to die?"
Melanie unclenched her jaw and let her eyelids relax, still keeping her head against Liam's shoulder, awaiting Scott's answer.
"I'd tell you, but I'm not ready to die." Scott grunted out. Melanie slowly opened her eyes and brought her head out from its hiding spot in Liams shoulder to watch as the three arrows in Scott's chest burst into green flames and he started to heal.
"Fox fire." The nogitsune breathed out as Melanie's fox started to appear around Scott in a bright green hue before leaving his body and going back into Melanie's.
Melanie felt a wave of relief take over her. Her body started to heal as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She opened her eyes again and she smiled at Scott.
"Where'd you learn to do that?" Liam asked. Melanie turned to face him at the sound of his voice and smiled at the look of pure astonishment on his face. She shrugged, her smile turning playful as she tried to hold back a laugh. "I do my research."
Liam breathed out a laugh as he looked down at Melanie. A bright light behind her made him wince. Melanie turned her head in the direction of the light and squinted to try and see what it was,
When it started to die down, they saw Parrish, Malia, Melissa, Peter, and Chris. One by one, Chris, Melissa, and Peter all start to kill the Oni. The nogitsune watched his Oni disappeared with a dropped jaw. "What is that?"
"Silver, you motherfucker!" Chris Argent screamed, shooting and killing two Oni. The Nogitsune disappeared from the top of the landscape, leaving Eli standing alone and untied. Immedaitely, Eli ran towards his dad and after a couple attempts, he cut Derek's ties.
Eli then jumped off the landscape and ran over to Liam and Melanie. He cut Liam free from his bonds and once he was untied, Liam freed Melanie. Liam stood up and held his hand out to help Melanie up. She hesitated for a second, but took his hand fairly quickly.
"Thanks." Melanie muttered as Liam pulled her up. Liam had pulled her up so fast and with so much force that Melanie stumbled into him. Liam was quick to catch Melanie, placing his hands on her waist to keep her steady.
"Hello?" A voice yelled a couple feet away from them on the floor, hoping to get their attention. Melanie and Liam turned their heads to the voice and saw Theo still tied up. The boy raised his brows at the pair, gesturing to his tied up body with his head. "Some help?"
Liam sighed as he walked towards Theo. He crouched down beside the boy and cut his ties. Theo grunted at the fact that Liam had nicked his a little bit with claws. He removed the ties off of his hands completely and watched as the cut healed.
"Thanks." Theo grumbled as he stood up. The two boys walked to stand on either side of Melanie as they watched the Nogitsune reappear in front of them and the rest of the pack. "Do you remember, Scott, the gift that you gave me? The bite of the alpha, the power of the werewolf."
Slowly, the Nogitsune started to remove his bandages. Melanie cringed at the sight of the Nogitsune, his skin a dark grey and slimey. The spirited eyes flashed a bright green that resembled Melanie's fox eyes as he roared.
Derek, Scott, Liam, and Eli lined up as they transformed into their wolf forms. All at once, they ran at the Nogitsune. Once they got to the spirit, they all disappeared. Melanie gasped, her heart sinking as she took a wavering step back. Melanie felt someone come up behind her and place a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and noticed it was Theo.
Immediately, Melanie pulled him into a hug, glad he was okay, but now also worried about the others. Theo hugged back in seconds, one of his hands cradling her head as the other went around her waist. "They're okay, Mel. They're gonna be okay." Theo hesitated for a second. "Liam is okay." He whispered.
When Theo felt Melanie relax, he squeeze Melanie into a tighter hug. They stayed like that until the four werewolves reappear on top of the nemeton. Melanie practically threw herself out of Theo's hold as Parrish ran up to them, pushing Liam and Eli out of the way and off of the nemeton so he can stand on the trunk of the tree with Scott, Derek, and the Nogitsune.
The the spirit started to thrash in the three mens arms, Scott growled. "We gotta hold him!" He screamed, but Parrish almost instantly shook his head, looking at Scott from over the Nogitsunes shoulder. "You can't! You'll both burn up with him! He's got to be weaker."
At those words, Melanie put her hand out by her side. She watched as her katana appeared in her hands with a small smirk before she threw it. Everyone watched as the katana soars through the air and stabs the Nogitsune through the chest. Melanie was aiming for his head, but considering she had never thrown her katana before, she wasn't expecting a perfect shot. The Nogitsune roared in pain, but was still too strong compared to Scott, Derek, and his wound.
"He's still too strong! One of us has to hold him." Scott yelled and Melanie was considering stabbing the Nogitsune again.
"Scott!" Derek yelled, stopping Melanie from creating another katana. Scott turned to Derek. Derek's eyes were watering as his eyes stared in to Scott's. "You're the alpha. He's part of your pack now.
With one hand, Derek pushes Scott off of the nemeton. Melanie runs up to Scott to help him up as Derek turned back to Parrish. "Parrish! Light this fucker up."
In seconds, Parrish, Derek, and the Nogitsune were in flames. Melanie felt sick to her stomach watching the flames around Parrish disappear, Derek and the Nogitsune gone with it.
"Derek..." Melanie whispered under her breath. Her eyes were glued to the nemeton in front of her as she helped pull Scott up off the ground. Her throat started to burn and her eyes started to water as she held back any form of cries.
Liam and Allison walk up to Melanie and Scott, Liam beside Melanie and Allison beside Scott. Allison reached over and grabbed Scott's hand just as Liam grabs Melanie's.
Finally letting out all of the emotions she's been feeling since coming back to Beacon Hills, Melanie started to cry. Without thinking, she turned to Liam and hugged him. Liam almost immediately hugged back, his hand going to the back of Melanie's head to run his hand through her hair as she cried into his chest.
Slowly, the forest around them started to disappear until they were standing in the middle of Beacon Hills Lacrosse filed. Melanie pulled herself out of Liams shoulder to look around the field. She let out a small breath of air, turning back to look up at Liam.
When Liam looked down at her, Melanie had finally realized how close they were. Their noses touched and Melanie felt a chill go down her spine. Melanie's eyes were glued on Liam's eyes, too scared to to even look down an inch, let alone look at his lips.
Liam wasn't as careful as Melanie. His eyes continuously went back and forth between Melanie's eyes and lips. He pulled her into a real hug. Liam's arms snaked around Melanie's waist and he lowered his head to put it in the crook of Melanie's neck.
The hug was tight, but Melanie's always loved tight hugs. She hugged Liam back, taking everything in. The hug was long. Needed. And when they pulled away, neither of them could look away from the other.
It was just like before. One of them staring into the others eyes, too scared to look down to their lips while the other couldn't look away from their lips.
Only this time, Melanie couldn't look away from Liam's lips. Melanie didn't know it, but Liams heart rate was picking up by the second. Melanie started to think back on her moments with Liam; the dates, the stay in dinners, the kisses, the fights, the reconciles, all of it. Melanie missed it. She missed him.
Melanie finally pulled her eyes away from Liam's lips and looked up into his eyes. Liam's eyes were soft and relaxed when they met Melanie's. Her mind started to race a mile a minute, her eyes bouncing just as fast between Liam's eyes and lips.
Without a word, Melanie closed the gap between them, leaning in and capturing Liam's lips in a kiss.
Time seemed to stand still as their kiss deepened, igniting a rush of emotions and memories. It was as if their love had been waiting for this moment, the universe conspiring to reunite their souls after only just months apart.
When they finally pulled away, breathless and wide-eyed, a profound sense of serenity washed over them. The love that had never faded still lingered between them, reigniting a spark they were worried would dimmed after the breakup.
Melanie let out a breathless chuckle, her lips curling upwards into a smile. Liam smiled with her, holding on to her a little tighter and pulling her closer.
When Melanie felt a hand touch her back, she jumped a little, not expecting anyone to come up to her, but she smiled when she turned around and realized it was Mason.
"Mason." Melanie breathed out, pulling herself out of Liam's grasp and reaching up to wrap her arms around Mason's shoulders to pull him into a hug. Mason smiled, hugging her back as he muttered a small "Hey, Mel."
"You okay?" Melanie asked, pulling away from Mason to look over him for any injuries since he was human and couldn't heal like some of the others.
Mason chuckled, looking down at himself before looking back to Melanie. "I'm okay." He laughed out.
"Are you okay?" Theo asked, walking over to the three. Then, all three boys stared down at Melanie, waiting to hear if she was okay. The girls eyes widened at all the eyes on her and immediately started to let out a nervous laugh.
"Feeling extremely out numbered." Melanie chuckled out. She looked around the three boys before she turned to just Theo since he was the one to ask the question. She held onto her right ear and pulled it. "Eh.. Lost my hearing for a bit there. But I'm okay." Melanie shrugged.
Melanie's phone started to vibrate wildly in her pocket. She pulled her phone out and her eyes widened at all the calls and texts from Corey just coming in. Melanie let out a low whistle just as Theo's phone started to vibrate crazily as well.
Theo pulled out his phone and chuckled at all the texts and calls from Corey he got as Liam looked over Melanie's shoulder. "Guess there was no reception back there." Liam muttered and Melanie chuckled, looking over she shoulder to Liam. "Shocker." She muttered back sarcastically.
"Are you okay, sweetheart?" Melissa asked as she ran up to the four, She cupped Melanie's face and checked her body for injuries. Melanie laughed at the woman's worry. She grabbed onto Melissa's hands and took them off of her face. "I'm okay, Melissa." Melanie laughed out, calming the woman down.
Melissa eased. She looked around at who Melanie was standing with and sighed at Liam. Even though Melanie and him were broken up, Melissa had spent enough time with the boy all these years to still care about him. She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, rubbing it. "You okay, Liam?"
Liam was taken aback by Melissa's concern. He figured that because of his and Melanie's breakup, she wouldn't care. Liam blinked a couple times before nodding his head crazily. "I'm... I'm okay."
Melissa nodded, turning to face Theo and Mason. "How about you boys? You two okay?" Theo and Mason quickly nodded their heads, both of them muttering their own versions of "I'm okay" and Melissa smiled, grateful that the two of them were okay before she headed towards Scott to check on him.
Melanie looked around the field at everyone hugging. Liam and Mason, Scott and Melissa, Allison and Chris. Her eyes then fell on Eli, who sat on the floor all alone crying. Melanie felt her heart sink a little. She looked down at her wrist. To Belles bracelet before she looked back up to Eli, blinking away the tears that were starting to form in her eyes.
