nine
It had been nine days. Nine whole days since Remus was turned into a five year old version of himself. Dumbledore found the lot of them in the infirmary on the morning of the ninth day.
Regulus Black was the only one of them awake when Dumbledore arrived. "What has happened that's got you lot in the infirmary?" He asked.
"That one broke his wrist," Regulus said, pointing to where Remus lay curled into Sirius's chest on a hospital bed.
"Ah," Dumbledore said.
"Yeah," Regulus agreed. "It was...an accident."
Dumbledore fished in the pocket of his robes and pulled out a shimmering vial of potion. "Well if they would all wake up quite shortly, I have some very exciting news."
Regulus eyed the vial and grinned, walking over to shake his brother's shoulder. Sirius groaned and blinked away and sat up before he had time to remember Remus laying on his chest. Remus blinked awake as his pillow moved and rubbed his eyes tiredly. It was a bit (only just a bit) earlier than he would normally wake up.
Once everyone was awake enough to process that Dumbledore was there, they gave him their full sleepy attention.
"It seems that after nine days of trial and error that we have found the antidote to the de-aging potion," Dumbledore announced happily.
Sirius's face split into a grin and he hugged little Remus close to him. Remus wasn't quite sure what all was going on or what all this cheering was about, but he just knew that if Sirius didn't let go of him soon he might just die of suffocation.
Luckily, Sirius let him go pretty quickly. He was glad for it because he would've preferred not to die of suffocation.
Sirius held out his hand for the potion and Dumbledore gave it to him. Sirius uncorked the vial and was about to give it to Remus to drink, but Dumbledore called for pause and waved his wand, enlarging Remus's clothes in preparation.
Then Sirius really did hand the potion over to Remus and watched him carefully to make sure he didn't spill it. He wasn't sure how much of the potion Dumbledore had or if this was all there was.
Remus sipped at it, wincing at the taste, but Sirius tipped it back for him, forcing him to drink it all in a gulp. He coughed and spluttered and his body began to grow. And soon, sitting on the hospital bed with Sirius, was a grown Remus.
"Moony!" Sirius yelled, launching himself at his boyfriend and squeezing him tight in a hug.
Remus was so shocked and startled that he fell right back flat on the bed. Sirius laughed and helped him sit back up. He held his hand tightly in his.
"How are you feeling?" He asked him.
"Alright, I suppose," Remus said, looking around and realizing he was in the infirmary. "Why are we here?" He asked.
"You broke your wrist last night sweet cheeks."
"Sweet cheeks?" Remus questioned, blushing just a little.
Sirius shrugged like it couldn't be helped.
"Well I will leave the lot of you to reconvene after such a long hiatus. Remus, I do ask, do you remember anything of the last nine days?"
Everyone looked at Remus anxiously as he thought about it. "I...I remember bits and pieces, I think. Like..." He looked accusingly at Sirius. "You honestly let James babysit me? In what world did you seriously think that was a good idea?!"
Dumbledore chuckled and made his leave while James turned a little red and tried to defend himself.
"I had everything under control!" He said.
"Did not," Remus argued.
"You let him have candy AND you let him out of your sight, therefor breaking not one but TWO of my very sacred babysitting rules!" Sirius exclaimed, pointing at James accusingly.
James scoffed. "Your sacred rules? You've never had to babysit anyone before Remus, you made that up."
"Did not."
"Did too."
Did NOT!"
"DID TOO!"
"Will you too please SHUT UP you're giving me a headache," Remus interrupted.
Sirius leaned over the peck Remus on the lips. "Sorry, Moons. Prongsie's accusing me of terrible things."
Remus rolled his eyes, amused and trying to hide it.
Later that day at lunch, the Marauders got a lot of attention. Sirius grinned at Remus and reached up to pat his head.
"Hey, you can see over the table!" He said, like he was so surprised.
The tips of Remus's ears turned red and he shoved Sirius's shoulder. "Shut it."
"But you couldn't before. That's why it's funny. Because you couldn't see over the table," Sirius said, laughing.
"Wow, you're so funny!"
"I know right? Wait, was that sarcasm?" Sirius asked.
Remus rolled his eyes and turned back to his food with a satisfied grin on his face. In truth, he was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the recent events. He couldn't quite wrap his head around the fact that he'd been five years old for a total of nine days. It seemed bizarre to him. He definitely felt weird about not being able to remember everything that happened. There were vague details, but not enough to feel like it had really been him to have gone through the whole ordeal.
That night, he and Sirius went for a walk across the grounds. They snuck out of the school in the invisibility cloak and stashed it in Remus's bag once the coast was clear. Their hands swung between them, fingers intertwined.
They were silent for a time, basking in the calm of the night with only the moon and stars to guide them. Finally, Sirius spoke.
"I'm just glad you're okay. I missed you. I missed being able to kiss you all the time."
I smiled. "I don't know if I missed you, honestly, but I would if the roles were reversed. Thanks for taking care of me, Pads."
"I'll always take care of you, Moons," Sirius assured, squeezing his hand.
"Always?" Remus challenged.
"Always," Sirius said, finality clear in his voice as he leaned over to kiss Remus.
