Chapter Thirteen
Melione couldn't help but feel annoyed at how the High Priestess had treated her. She talked to Melione as if she was an animal. She also didn't appreciate the way that she was threatening Grym. If Melione even walked away from Grym for a second, the High Priestess would make sure that Grym was stripped from his title and position.
Melione crossed her arms as she leaned back against Grym's chest. They had already rode across the border and been traveling for over an hour. Her mistbeast wouldn't survive the environment of the Emerald Realm making Melione leave her behind. There wasn't another horse for her to ride, making her have no choice but to ride with Grym. She was having a hard time keeping her eyes open. It was extremely bright in this realm. Each realm would be considered bright to her after growing up in darkness.
Melione was starting to feel weak. Her skin felt as if it was burning. She tried to cover her skin as much as she could, but nothing was helping the burning sensation. Melione took a deep, shaky breathe and leaned back further against Grym, leaning her head against his shoulder. "Grym," she sighed.
Grym quickly stopped his horse as he cursed. "Fuck, Melione." His hands touched her skin. "You're burning up." He ruffled through his saddlebag and found a blanket. "Maybe this will help." He moved her so she was facing him before covering her up with the blanket. "We're almost there, Melione. I promise."
Melione felt Grym's horse move faster as she rested her head against his chest. She could hear his heart beating harder as her strength continued to fade. She didn't know when they had arrived at the capital, but all of a sudden she opened her eyes to a dark room.
"Thank the gods," Grym sighed as he fell to her knees beside her.
Melione slowly sat up in the bed. She pushed back the covers and looked at her skin. No blemishes or burns were on her skin. She looked as if nothing had happened to her. She looked up at Grym with a confused look. "What happened?"
Grym's eyes moved over her, his hands rubbing her skin. "You had passed out, Melione. Your skin was burning up, you were so hot."
"I can't be out in your sun again, Gym," Melione said slowly. "How are we going to finish the investigation?"
"I'll find something for you to wear," he explained. "Your skin and eyes need to be covered at all times."
Melione nodded as she slowly moved her legs to the edge of the bed. Grym moved in between her legs, rubbing his hands up and down her calf's. She looked around the room. To her surprise, it was extremely nice. The green and gold trim matched the natural aesthetic of the Emerald Realm. Dozens of blankets draped over the bed. She turned her head and noticed that the drapes were closed, blocking the light from coming into the room.
"I went throughout the house and blocked any light from getting into the house," Grym explained to her.
Melione returned her attention back to him. He was staring at her intently with great concern on his face. She hadn't remembered the last time someone looked at her this way. She reached out and cupped his cheeks, pulling him up. She leaned forward and connected her lips to his. "Thank you," she breathed.
Grym smiled at her before grabbing her hand. "Come on. We've got some investigative work to do." He led her through his home. Melione looked around her in awe. His house was extremely nice, not at all how she imagined. Plants lined every window, full and healthy. The curtains were drawn tightly, barely letting any light in. The small strands of light that was allowed to slip through the curtains caused sharp pains to pierce behind her eyes.
Grym led her into a large office. Shelves filled with books lined each wall, except for the wall on their left. That wall held a ginormous window. Melione wanted to look out and see what his city looked like, but know that it was a wrong decision. Grym led her over to a large desk and sat her down into a large green, leather chair. On the desk laid out a large map of the Emerald Realm. There were four red circles placed on the map at different locations.
"I circled different places on the map that fit the description of your vision," Grym explained as he pointed at each of the red circles. "I think that we should go to each of these until we find the deity."
Melione nodded. "I agree." She leaned forward and stared at the map. "Do you think that we will find what I saw?"
Grym placed his hands on her shoulders and gave them a tight squeeze. "There's nothing wrong with trying this, Melione. Any kind of tips that we could get, we have to go and look at them. We cannot be picky." He placed a soft kiss on her temple. "How are you feeling?"
Melione leaned back against his touch. "A little," she answered and that was the truth. She was starting to feel better as long as she wasn't in the view of sunlight.
"That's good," he responded as he took her hand again and led her through the house. "There's an underground pool that my father had built before I was born. There is no way that any sunlight can shine down there."
Melione smiled as she let him lead her through the house, down a couple of staircases, before leading her underneath the house. The sound of water echoing off stone walls reached her ears. The air around them was cool, causing the hairs on her arms and the back of her neck to stand up.
"The only thing that my father forgot to add to this room was light," Grym grumbled.
Melione smiled at him as she reached her hand out, an orb of light rising from her palm up to the top of the room. Grym smirked down at her as he stripped out of his clothes before jumping into the water. Melione slowly removed her clothes, setting them beside his before getting into the water with him. The water was freezing, but nothing her body couldn't handle. Her people were good at regulating their body temperature.
Grym came up behind her, pushing her up against the stone wall. "I can't get enough of you," he whispered in her ear. "I'm obsessed with everything about it." His lips pressed lightly against her neck. "Your body." His lips continued to moved down her neck to her shoulder. "Your taste." His hands moved down her body. "Everything."
"Grym," Melione groaned. His touch alone made her entire body feel hot despite the freezing water.
Grym chuckled lowly. "Melione. I'll give you ten seconds for a head start."
Melione looked over her shoulder at him, her eyebrows scrunched together. "What?"
"The tunnels under this house are completely empty," Grym began to explain. "Start swimming. If I catch you, I get to do whatever I want. Deal?"
Melione turned around to face him. Her hands moved up his chest, her body excited about the thrill of him chasing after her. "Deal."
Grym leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her lips. "Swim."
