168. The Girl With No Name

Who would've thought that my time would be spent in airports now. "Call me when you land in Los Angeles. Then tell me how it goes for your interview for the Rams." Jackson said to me over a call.

"I will you don't have to worry." I said to him. I had a very successful interview to say the least and coming home to Seattle. I wanted to change things in a way. Going into work after I had a bunch of gifts for me. From every interview I had.

"This is getting ridiculous." April said as Cristina carried in her bread basket. And I had all the Rams merchandise an American football fan could ask for. All signed as well.

"The NIH? Since when does the NIH bribe residents to come work for them? Same goes for the Rams." Jackson said to the both of us.

"I mean they all had a laugh and welcomed me to the team." I said to him with a smile, I had to take it. I really did. The offer was just too good to say no to.

"They don't, except when you're me, a God." Cristina said to him and I put the stuff in my cubby. I saw Alex steal one of Cristina's cookies. "Hey." She said to him.

"Cookie's stale." He said to her, he was a bit salty today wasn't he.

"Karev. Is this hard for you, having to beg for interviews while some of us just sit back and get wooed?" Cristina asked him, it had to be.

"It will happen don't worry." I said to him with a smile.

"No one's begging." Alex said to her.

"Oh, yeah, maybe you should. Maybe that way, you'd actually get an interview." April said to him. I smiled at her remark.

"Why can't you be like this more often April." I said to her, she needed to be mean. It was the only way I'd like her.

"I love mean Kepner." Cristina said I smiled. I did too.

"I got an interview." Alex said to us and I'm sure he did. In his dreams.

"Really, where?" April asked him with a smile.

"At...places. Whatever! Look, this sucks, ok. I mean, we got boards in a couple of weeks and now they want us to go on freaking job interviews? There's only so much crap a guy can have thrown at him before he snaps." Alex said to all of us and I took a cookie from Cristina. God knows I deserved it.

"There's a trauma coming in on the roof. Kepner, Karev, come with me." Owen said as he walked into the room, at least I wasn't on it. I needed to be on another plane in four hours.

"I gotta leave for my Northwestern interview in an hour. I told you yesterday." April said to him after Alex had left the room already.

"Avery?" Owen asked him.

"Sloan's got me all day, Chief. Sorry." Jackson said to me, Owen then looked at me.

"Y/l/n?" He asked.

"I'm leaving in three hours, I'm catching a flight to St. Joesph's I mentioned it yesterday." I said to him, at least it wasn't my flight to Warsaw. That was going to kill me.

"I'm free." Mer said speaking up to him.

"Great. Thank you." He said before leaving the room with Mer. I couldn't even do a surgery. I had to go, but before hand I managed to help a few patients in the ER. I then changed before flying out to Ontario. When I got to St. Joesph's I let out a sigh. This was nerve wracking.

"Dr. Y/l/n, it's a pleasure to have an amazing ortho surgeon in front of us. I've heard many great things. I'm Dr. Billings." He said to me and I shook his hand.

"It is a pleasure to be here. I hope that I can make some groundbreaking things here. If you take a look at my file you will see that I've done a lot in the field. Like amputating a lady's leg's in a sinkhole and in my first year I worked on a ferry boat accident all on scene." I said to him and he started to read some of things.

"Everyone seems to love you and Dr. Torres. People fly all over to just to get an opinion. Now that, that's a talent. We'd love to host you here." He said to me and we started to talk more. Once the interview was done I then headed back to Seattle. I would only have a few hours until I'd start my way to Warsaw. Of course I had a stop over in NYC which I would be using to have another interview for in Manhattan. But when I did finally making to Warsaw. I slept at the hotel. In the morning I called Jackson.

"Hi, I'm in Warsaw. I'm a bit jet lagged but I have my interview in two hours and then I fly back home home again." I said to him and I could tell that he was thinking of something else.

"As in Oxford home or Seattle?" He asked me and that's when I had to come out with the truth.

"I'm going to Oxford and then I'm coming back to Seattle. I got another interview." I said to him and I heard him sigh. He wasn't impressed by that.

"Just whatever it is, just make sure you come home soon." He said to me. It was the way that this was turning into a long trip. I'd done, so many interviews that not even I knew where I would want to go.

"I will but I promise, the Rams is my number one so far." I said to him, we continued our conversation all the up to when I had to go for my interview. The interview went well, I was glad I got to stay another day here. I saw my family, staying there the night before flying to Heathrow so I could catch my cab to Oxford. When my interview came around I was glad to see a familiar face.

"If it's not my favourite student, Y/n Y/l/n." My old lecturer Dr. Bayliss said to me and I wrapped her in a hug.

"Dr. Bayliss I'm so glad to see you again." I said to her and we sat down at a table. She'd made coffee.

"Now, catch me up on everything and is that a ring. Congratulations." She said to me and I looked at her with a smile.

"Thank you, me and my fiancé are very happy together." I said to her and then we had our catch-up.

"I'm happy to hear that, I'm so sorry for the loss of your brother and your father as well." She said to me I looked at her a nodded.

"Thank you, I think what made it worse was I was at work. Trust me I've lost a lot of friends as well, all in that hospital." I said to her she looked down. Almost like I'd gone away and experienced more pain then I would have anywhere else.

"I truly am sorry. Let's make the subject more lighter, how have your patient reviews been?" She asked and I displayed the file to her.

"If you take a look, you'll be able to see that everyone that I have worked with has adored me. From my calming bedside manner to my work of getting them back on the right track again." I said to her and she started to look through it.

"'Without the help of Dr. Y/l/n I wouldn't be able to use my hand ever again. Her and Dr. Torres made it so my completely destroyed hand would work again, I will forever thank her for what she did' that sounds like an interesting case. Care to share more about it." She said to me and we conducted the interview. I would be staying the night in Oxford before flying home. I was glad I was getting picked up from the Seattle.

"There she is. You look rough." Jackson said to me as I went over and hugged him.

"Well I've been on numerous flights with no resting and now I can." I said to him and he put his arm around me as we walked out.

"How did all the interviews go?" He asked me as we left the airport.

"It went well. Warsaw said they've never seen anyone with the accomplishments that I have. Oxford, she said she misses me and would love for me to come back. She even said they have space for someone in plastics. And New York the place in Manhattan, it was good but I don't think I'll go there." I said to him and he looked at me.

"Where's your number one choice so far?" He asked me and when I looked at him. There was a look of wordy on his face.

"I think the rams still. It felt like home." I said to him with a smile.

"I'm so glad to hear that." He said to me making me smile. When I was finally starting work again I saw all the gifts. There was too much stuff. Taking it home was hard as well. I had to make two trips. Then when I wasn't at work I was on planes. I was getting ready to fly to Yale. I then found the others.

"Alex I'm so glad we're on the same flight and sat next to each other. Maybe I'll have a less boring flight like the others." I said to him and smiled.

"Thank you I think. But at least we can run things through with each other." He said to me. Mer then came walking over.

"Hey. So I rescheduled my interview at Brigham, and I leave in an hour." Mer said and I ordered myself a drink.

"Cheers to that." Cristina said to her.

"Jackson, we gotta go." April said and the two of them stood up. Jackson came over to me.

"And we're out." He said.

"Text me when you land." I said to him and he kissed me.

"Same goes for you, now I love you good luck." He said to me and I smiled and kissed him again.

"I love you too, good luck." He said and he was gone. "Happy interviewing, losers." He said to the others. I then finished my drink and looked at the time.

"We need to go as well." I said to Alex and I stood up.

"We should go, too." Alex said to them and Mer looked at the two of us.

"Don't leave." Meredith said to us. But we couldn't miss our flight either.

"It's Yale. No way in hell am I missing that flight to hand out with you two drunks. Later." Alex said as he stood up.

"Trust me we will get drunk another time but now when Yale's waiting." I said to to them. I then walked away. Tomorrow I had an interview for Harvard so I was even more nervous. But at least I could put space between Seattle and me. Maybe somewhere less dangerous.
