167. Support System

Before I had my shift today I went on a run. I was listening to all study recordings made by mum. She would record the step-by-step of every kind of surgery and then all the complications that could happen. I'd been running so much that I ended up at work. I showered before getting changed. "How did you get to work? I didn't see you leave the house." Jackson said as he joined me in the halls.

"I ran. I put my mum's tapes on and just ran." I said to him and he looked at me. I mean the house was 5 miles from the hospital and that was up to me if I'd run it back.

"I forgot that you had access to that. Some of us are lucky that we get parents tapes or Callie's mentoring or both." He said to me and I looked at him. Well that wasn't my fault at the end of the day.

"Y/n, your going to girls night. No arguing." Arizona said as she walked past me.

"Okay then." I said to Arizona and I then looked at Jackson.

"Look, you can listen to my mum's tapes whilst I'm at girls night." I said to him and I kissed his cheek. He then got paged.

"It's Mark. He's the chief today and I'm his bitch." He said to me and I started laughing.

"You really suit being the chief's bitch. I like this look in you." I said to him. I then walked out. I had to go and read my case files.

"Dr. Y/l/n, you here for anything special?" The lady at the desk asked me at archives and I looked at her with a smile. I just needed one stack and that would be enough for me.

"I'm just looking for my case files. I'm thinking of cramming it all in. Especially with boards coming up soon." I said to her with a smile. She looked at me with a smile. She then got up.

"I'll go get them for you." She said to me with a smile. She went to retrieve them and when she came back I took the stack of them.

"Thank you, I'll bring them back later." I said to her and she nodded at me.

"Take your time with them. I can't imagine how stressful boards must be." She said to me and i was grateful that she could trust me for looking after this.

"Very stressful which is why I'm so thankful for these. I'll see you later." I said to her before I left the room. I saw Callie down the hall and I stopped her.

"Callie, I can't make it to girls night. I have a lot to study for, I thought I was going to do well but now I'm second guessing so I need to cram. I promise after boards, I will very much go on a girls night I swear to you. But not tonight." I said to her and she stopped. She looked confused. "I guess that Arizona never told you. But just pass that along to her please." I said to her and she looked at me with a smile.

"Don't even worry about it Y/n, we're trying to get out of it as well. We're all bad ladies let's face it. Even Bailey's not coming now. Now go cram." She said to me and I went off to the gurney in the hall we all used to sit at when we were interns. How the times had changed. As I looked at the wheelchair I could see George rolling around on it. Talking about now knowing what to do whilst the rest of us would all laugh. Izzie eating food whilst talking about Denny. Now they were gone. Never getting to the point we did now. After studying I went to the pit to help out before my shift was coming to an end. I wanted to catch Callie before I left and that's when I saw Bailey with her. Two for the price of one. Arizona walked in and then closed the door.

"We are bad, selfish people. A woman is counting on us. She is leaning on us when she is feeling vulnerable and alone, and we are talking about dancing, studying and getting it on and not even being halfway decent friends to her in her time of need." Arizona said and Bailey and I looked at each other.

"You were gonna ditch her so you could get it on?" Bailey asked them both and I looked at them.

"I have no words." I said to them, but secretly that's why I also wanted to get out of tonight. Not just because I needed to study.

"Where do you think we got the idea?" Callie asked Bailey.

"I don't know what you're talking about. Anyway, look, I only canceled because I knew the two of you would be there. Now what's your excuses?" Bailey asked while looking at the remaining three.

"I needed to study so I'd do well." I said to Bailey. She gave me a look like I was crazy. She knew I would do well.

"I wanted to salsa." Callie said to Bailey. I kinda wanted to salsa now.

"No, nobody gets salsa. We get ladies' night with Teddy. And you will be there and you will be there and you will be there." Arizona said and she pointed at every single one of us at the end.

"Well, I have..." Bailey started and she was then cut off by Arizona.

"No excuses. No excuses." Arizona said to us. Once I got home I then changed and put something nice on. Thankfully we were only going to Callie and Arizona's place. I brought over some pie.

"I got those ginger cookies for dessert." Callie said as she saw that Bailey was holding them.

"We have some pie as well." I said to them with a smile.

"No, no, no, no dessert. No, we're having a glass of wine, plate of food, then everybody!s on their way." Bailey said before the doorbell rang. "School night." Bailey said to me.

"Don't even remind me." I said to her, I didn't even know if Caleb had done his homework.

"What'd you tell Ben, you'd be outta here in like an hour?" Arizona asked Bailey as Callie walked over to the door.

"Forty-five minutes." Bailey said to her and I looked at her.

"I told Jackson the same thing." I said to her with a smile.

"I'm late. I'm sorry. I couldn't figure out whether we wanted red or white or rose. And then I realized, why choose? I mean, we've got the whole night." Teddy said as she started passing the bottles around. I happily took the bottle of red.

"That we do." Callie said with a smile.

"And movies. Dirty Dancing and Beaches." Teddy said and maybe I'd stay for Dirty Dancing.

"Movies." Bailey got out. She wasn't too happy, I then texted Jackson telling him that I was going to be late home. I also made him make sure that Caleb had done his homework and to check. The next morning I was called over to Mer's place. I had my head rested on Jackson's shoulder. It was 5 am. I had to leave Caleb with Kennedy.

"So do you know why I brought you all here this morning? To help you, because even through we all take the boards alone, if we work together, we can all pass." Mer said and she gave us all a different coloured marker. "If you're not at the hospital, you're here. You sleep here, you eat here. There are no distractions, no breaks. This is the Grey method, and it starts now." She added. The doorbell went, reminding me of last night. Mer then went to answer it. It was Cristina. I budged up and let her sit next to me. Putting my arm around her. I'd heard about what had happened with Owen. She deserved so much more.
