147. I Will Survive
It was the morning and we had meetings for chief resident today. I particularly didn't care if I got it or not. Jackson and I were getting ready together. "Listen you better tell them that you were a key part of getting the chief's trial approved for testing on humans. From mice to humans." I said to him and he looked at me in the mirror.
"Im not doing that." Jackson said to me and I looked at him
"Yeah, ok. I get it you don't like talk yourself up. But your helping with diabetes with this trial. You will go so far." I said to him before he started walking away.
"I got it." He said to me before leaving.
"He don't get it." I said to myself before I finished getting ready. The two of us then headed into work. This would be a stressful day. Especially since the only thing playing on my mind would be the whole 'interview with Hunt'. I then went to my patient from Africa.
"How are you doing today, Dr. Y/n?" My patients older sister said to me with a smile and I looked at them both.
"I'm doing good. How are you both?" I asked them both with a smile. They looked like they were doing well.
"We're doing good. Just waiting on the news on knowing when we can go." She said to me and I looked at her with a smile.
"Another week, and then your all free to go." I said to her with a smile and I was glad that they were happy about that.
"We'll hold on." She said before I got paged.
"I'll check in later. Be good you two." I said to them both with a smile and they smiled back at me. I then went to meet Callie. We had a motorcycle accident to help out with.
"Finally something we can do." Callie said and I was happy that we could have a surgery to do.
"I'm praying that we are actually needed." I said to her, that's all I needed. One surgery with her. But of course at the same time I did still have that meeting with Owen.
"If we're not and I can't break any bones I'm going to go crazy. Crazy Y/n." She said to me and I couldn't imagine how she was feeling. First day back and she was climbing the walls.
"It's ok, if there's not then we'll have something else come up." I said to her and I don't think that was to help anyone. We went to the emergency and there was no bones to break.
"Y/n, go and have that meeting with Hunt before you have to witness me doing something that I'll regret." She said to me and I nodded at her. I may have had ten minutes still to go but I'd be going now.
"I'm off. I'll be back shortly hopefully." I said to her before I walked off to the area that Hunt was doing the whole meeting in.
"Y/l/n, just in time." He said to me as he opened the office door for me and I walked in.
"Well you know, punctuality is one thing I'm good at." I said to him with a smile and he smiled about me.
"It is and that's one of your key things. Another thing is knowing exactly what your doing and when you don't. Your not afraid to ask for help." He said to me and I nodded at him. Asking for help was something that never scared me.
"Well, what's the point of having a mentor if you can't ask them for help when you need it." I said to him making him smile. He looked at me like he knew that I was right.
"That's a very good reason. I know that things haven't been easy for you recently with the whole Callie situation but you've still done well. You've taken on a case from Alex's whole project and you've done well at it. You've really proven that you can become one of the best ortho surgeons one day. We're lucky to have you here." Owen said to me and I looked at him.
"But it hasn't been easy. It's been hard and I've had to clear everything that I knew before." I said to him and he knew exactly what I was talking about.
"I get that your trying to build your own legacy up but you never had to, no one here is seeing you as the daughter of famous surgeons. We see you as your own person." He said to me and that made me feel so much better than everything. We continued this whole thing before I went back to my job. Knowing that I was seen as Dr. Y/l/n. And not the daughter of Kasia and Johnny Y/l/n. World class surgeons. When the shift was over I went home and saw Caleb asleep and Kennedy studying.
"I'm glad your here, can you just explain this to me." She said to me from the kitchen counter. Caleb was heavy sleeper not even a knock on the door would wake him.
"Show me the question and whatever it is and I'll help you." I said to her as I walked over and she showed me what it is.
"Its this, now call me stupid but it's complicated." She said to me and I looked at it. I could see exactly what she meant. It was something that was too complicated written down but easy when you do it.
"No it's fine to find it complicated, I will grab us a tequila and we will do this together." I said to her and she smiled at me.
"Grab the whole bottle and maybe another one as well. I have a feeling we'll need them." She said to me and I opened the cabinet with them in and I smiled at her.
"Well we are fully stocked and prepared. You shall pass this exam and soon you will be able join me." I said to her with a smile and she looked happy at me.
"And if you are looking after me there as well, then I'll have a good year." She said to me and she was right. I would make sure that she got all the help that she needed. We started drinking and studying together until Jackson came home.
"What a surprise. The two twins together again." He said to us both with a smile until he saw the tequila.
"And drunk. Because med school is hard and we needed the drink." I said to him while showing him the bottle.
"Now I think the two of you have had enough. I'll get the coffee." He said to the two of us. All I knew was I was definitely a candidate for Chief resident but I didn't want all that responsibility.
