135. Slow Night, So Long

It had been a long night. I woke up to Jackson screaming next to me. "Jackson! Jackson! It's ok!" I shouted at him until he woke. He instantly started looking around.

"Where's Charles? Charles! Where's Charles?" He asked me, I looked down.

"Jackson, it's okay. But you need to stop. Wake up, it's me Y/n." I said to him and he sat up.

"It's time for work." He said before kissing me and getting ready.

"You make a fair point." I said before I got out and got ready. It was 6pm but it was time for shift to start. While everyone was sharing car whilst I drove myself.

"Did you just yawn? Was that a yawn?" Mark asked April, I then yawned. I was exhausted.

"Don't tell us you're tired after getting to sleep all day." Teddy said to us, it was hard to do.

"It's not as easy as it sounds." April said to them.

"It's a skill I haven't acquired just yet." I said to them while stretching,

"Not easy? Not...when I was a resident, I actually worked for a living. I did every other night call for five years." Bailey said to me, that was something I could get behind.

"There were days I didn't go home for 72 hours. I loved it." The new attending said to us, I liked the sound of that as well.

"As you trudged through the snow while you whittled your own scalpels." Alex said making us all snicker apart from April.

"Sorry, I didn't quite catch that, Karev." Stark said to us, I was glad that he didn't.

"Uh, Karev and Y/l/n, I need you to follow up on my post-ops, and here, take this research divide out all the fistula cases." She said while handing us the files.

"Avery and Little Grey, Hunt is waiting for you in the pit." Teddy said to them, I just wanted a drink.

"All right. Try not to screw up our patients. Good night. And good luck." Callie said to us as they started leaving.

"We'll be over at the bar. Try not to need us." Mark said to us, on it.

"Dr. Grey. Shepherd's wife. You're with me tonight." I heard Stark say before we all started leaving. We all got changed and then Alex and I headed to see our patients. Of course there wasn't much to do so I went to check on Callie's patients as well, even though she hadn't asked me to do that. After a while Alex and I headed to get pizza. Mer was in there as well.

"What are you doing in the attendings' lounge? You could get in trouble." April said while walking in.

"What are you doing in here? That's the question." I said to her while biting into my pizza.

"Pizza?" Alex asked while offering her a slice and she sighed.

"I have stupid teenage patients who Super Glued themselves together so their parents can't tear them apart." April said to us, I'd do something like that.

"Hm! That sounds romantic." Mer said to her, I looked at her.

"Now that's something I would do." I said to them with a nod and a smile.

"Yeah, more like moronic. I have no idea how to get them apart without taking off half their skin." April said to us, clearly she wasn't thinking properly.

"Try acetone." Alex suggested, that would work.

"Try going away!" April said with a sigh. "Meredith, Y/n, any ideas?" She asked us and we looked at her.

"Mm...Acetone?" We both said at the same time.

"Thank you." She said with a smile. She then left us.

"So, what's the deal with Stark?" Mer asked, I hadn't been told anything about him.

"A lazy, back-stabbing weasel. Why?" Alex said to her, he was really that bad.

"Because I called him in to examine this patient..." Mer started before Alex cut her off.

"You called him in? Ha! I wish I could've seen that. You don't call Stark." Alex said to us, I really wasn't liking this guy.

"Well, my kid just had pectus excavatum surgery and he was in serious pain." Mer said to us, I hope the kids feeling a bit better now.

"Yesterday, my fundoplication patient was vomiting. You don't call Stark." Alex said to us, what a jerk this Stark guy was.

"Well, this kid's mother is a nurse at Seattle Pres." Mer said to us, so would know exactly what's happening.

"Let's play a game. There's one rule: you don't call Stark." Alex said to her, sounded like an easy game to be fair.

"Alex, I'm serious. Normally, I would handle this myself,  but I haven't been on Peds in a while. You know the complications with these kids." Mer said to us, there was no point asking me when I mainly dealt with bones.

"Did you order blood work and a CT?" Alex asked her, I was just enjoying the pizza.

"Mm-hmm." She hummed in response.

"I'd add a LDH, a CRP and a sed rate. With Stark you have to cover all your bases, so of you do end up calling him, he has no excuse but to get off his ass and come in." Alex said before eating the pizza. Tonight was just quite with nothing for me to do. Especially with no people to talk to. I just kept checking on all these patients I had been tasked with. Nothing was happening with the patients or the whole floor at that matter. Once it got to the morning, I went straight to where my new place was.

"So, Dr. Y/l/n, any final thoughts?" The real estate agent said to me after I looked around the new place.

"Where can I sign?" I asked her with a smile. She went and got me a pen.

"Right here." She said to me and I signed the document. She then handed me the keys to the have. And just like that I could start moving in soon. I could leave the frat house behind. But not today because I'm too tired for that crap.
