124. Shiny Happy People

There was an event at Mer's place so I had to wear a dress. Once I got Mer's place I saw Jackson. "You haven't missed much." Jackson said while handing me a bottle.

"I can tell. It's obvious it's Derek's party." I said to him before drinking something.

"Why's that?" He asked me while wrapping his arm around me.

"No ones dancing on a table." I said to him before seeing Mer.

"That happens?" He asked me and I nodded.

"I gotta go and speak with Mer." I said before I left to go and speak with her. When the night ended I realized that it was the worst party I'd gone to. When it got to shift I did rounds as soon as I arrived. That was before being paged by Callie.

"Yes, Andrew, I said 'surgery.' Now, wait, wait. Would you explain to my son why he doesn't need to worry?" The old lady said while putting the phone Callie's ear.

"Hello? Hi. Um...your mom has some broken bones in her forearm, but, up, we're gonna put some small metal plates in, and then she'll be discharged tomorrow. Ok, bye." Callie said before she took her phone back.

"See, dear? So don't jump on a plane. No, I'm gonna call you right after surgery. Well, love you, too, darling. Bye-bye." She said before hanging up, I saw Lexie laughing in the corner of my eye. "Oh, my son, the lawyer. He's single, very nice, a little bit older." She said to us, I think she was trying to get him a date.

"I'm in a serious relationship already." I said to her with a nod.

"I'm dating someone...kind of. What about you, Reed? You go for older guys, right?" Lexie asked before Reed walked away.

"What was that about?" I whispered to Lexie.

"I'll tell you later." She said to me, I nodded.

"Was it something I said?" The old last asked us.

"Oh, no, no. It's not you." Callie said while looking at Lexie. We then get her prepped to move.

"Betty?" A guy asked as we passed his bed.

"Yes." She said to him.

"It's Henry. Henry Stamm." He said to her, we stopped moving her.

"Henry? Henry Stamm? Oh, my god. It's...That- -that's Henry Stamm." She said to us, they must've known each other.

"Betty Flynn." He said to her with a smile.

"Oh, but my last name is Donahue now." She said to him.

"You...you married Mike Donahue?" He asked her, so he knew her husband as well.

"May he Rest In Peace. And you? Oh, how...how is Irene?" She asked him, so she was a widow.

"Oh, she died...ten years ago this August." He said to us, so he was a widow as well.

"I'm so sorry. Are...are you ok?" She asked him, there was a spark between them.

"Just a little fall. You?" He said to her, Cristina looked over at us.

"Fender bender." She said yo him with a smile.

"You look good, Betty." He said making her scoff.

"I'm an old lady, Henry." She said to him, Webber and I shared a look.

"Well, you look pretty damn good for an old lady to me." Henry said complimenting her. So this is how old people flirt.

"You know, maybe we should keep this area clear for emergencies?" Cristina asked, it made sense.

"We...we haven't seen each other in half a century, miss." He said to her, but we were blocking the path in case of an emergency.

"Oh, well, all the more reason for you to wait a little longer for your reunion." Cristina said to him, a few hours.

"Yang." Webber said to her.

"She'll be in room 3128. Ok?" Callie said to them with a smile.

"Betty Flynn. Oh, my god." Henry said while laughing. We then moved her to room 3128. After that Lexie and I walked away together and she told me about Reed sleeping with Mark. Now I understood why Reed walked away. When we went back to her room she told us about Henry.

"I figured that I would write her eventually and try to explain, but how do you say, 'I couldn't stand up in your wedding because I fell in love with your fiancé'?" Betty said to us, I loved hearing stories from patients. "It just...happened. I felt terrible. It was wonderful. He was my first." She said to us, they seemed sweet. "For the first time in my life, I felt complete. Being with Henry, I felt complete." She said to us before continuing on. "Ans it would've ruined my friendship with Irene. A- -but of course, the friendship was ruined anyway. I told myself there'd be plenty of Henry's in my life." Betty said to us, this was getting really sad.

"And were there?" Callie asked her.

"My husband was a good man- -kind, funny, smart- -but he was no Henry. There was never...another Henry." She said to us, I wanted to cry.

"Dr. Torres...I have an idea." Webber said while walking into our room. His idea was to put them in the same room together. So they could catch up. Lexie and I walked away together and she told me about her and Alex.

"Alex is over. Go and talk with him." I said to her. She hesitated but walked over to him. I saw them kiss before she walked over to me.

"We're a couple." She said to me.

"That's another guy we've both dated." I said to her, she looked at me confusedly.

"I completely forgot about that." She said to me before realising. We then went to get lunch. Cristina waved me over to here and we spoke. I was confused as to why she wasn't with Alex and Mer.

"Cholesteatoma...or temporal lobe tumor." Cristina said while looking at Alex.

"For God sakes, will you just come over here?" Mer asked her, I was staying out of whatever was happening.

"No." Cristina said while slurping her drink.

"I'm just not going to ask." I said to her before my pager went off. It wasn't long until Lexie was behind me.

"At the end of the trail, there's an overlook. You can see the entire bay from up there. Of course, the view would be even nicer if I had someone to share it with." Henry said to Betty, now that was a good line. "Come live with me." He said to her with a smile.

"Henry." She said to him.

"It's a nice place. Warm, quiet." He said to her.

'We barely know each other." She said to him, but they were getting to know each other again.

"We know each other. We missed our chance once, Betty. I'd hate to make the same mistake again." He said to her with a smile.

"Betty, I need to...I need to get you up to surgery." Callie said to her, we really did.

"Think about it. That's all I ask." He said to her, she placed his hand on his.

"I got over you...Henry. I married Mike, I had four kids, now grandkids that give me such joy. I got over you. I'm sorry." She said before letting go of his hand. I felt bad for Henry now, as we left the room I looked through the window. He looked sad.

"Wow. Impressive technique, who taught you that?" Callie asked Lexie, I know who taught her that because he taught me the same thing.

"Mark. He taught me one-handed ties, mattress stitches, dual onlay bone grafts. Now he can teach his techniques to Reed." She said to us, I could tell it was troubling her.

"Lexie..." Callie said to her.

"It's fine. I'm fine. I don't care. I'm with Alex. I do not care about Mark and/or who he sleeps with." She said to.

"I said the same thing when Mark was with you." I said to her, she looked at me.

"That's the same thing I keep telling myself about Arizona, that I don't care. And you know what? Sometimes it works for the most part. But then a patient gets asked to move across the country for a man she barely knows, and all I can think is how stupid they were to let each other go in the first place. All I want is for her to change her mind and say yes. I want to believe." She said to me, I know she did but the chance of her changing her mind would be a lot. Once we finished up we took her to her room and I went off with Lexie to talk for a little bit. It wasn't long until we saw Cristina who told us that Betty was going to move in with Henry. That was a bittersweet ending for them. When shift ended I saw Jackson.

"How was your patient?" He asked me, I took his hand.

"She was good, moving in with the guy she let go for 50 years." I said to him as I looked at him.

"50 years? And they still like each other like they did?" He asked me and I nodded.

"They do, even if they did both move on at some point." I said to him. We then went to the car park. When I got him, Mer texted me to come over. Derek sent me up to their room where I saw Cristina on their bed. I joined them.

"Well...I'm not moving in with Owen." Cristina said to the two of us. I wonder what happened.

"See this right here?" Mer asked us, I nodded while looking at the plan.

"Uh-huh." Cristina got out.

"This is your room. You have a room at the new house in the woods. And Y/n, this is your room. Your escape when you need one." She said to me, I loved Mer. She didn't have to give us a room but she did.

"Our own rooms?" Cristina asked while wiping her tears.

"Yeah." Mer said to us with a smile.

"Thank you." Cristina said to her.

"Thank you, Mer. You're so thoughtful." I said to her with smile. We then cuddled Mer and looked at the plans.
