Mer was still bing taught by the Chief. Whereas she was teaching us all the techniques she'd learnt. When I got to the hospital today I was tired. I'd barely gotten any sleep due to Caleb waking up every night screaming and crying from a nightmare. I saw Alex in the changing room.

"You look tired." He said to me before we went to get coffee.

"That's because I am." I said to him we barely got coffee before a trauma came in.

"Adamson, you're with me. Meredith, you're with Bailey. Karev, Y/l/n, you're with Torres. Tom Kates is in this ambulance." Derek said to us, I'd heard that name before.

"The quarterback?" Alex asked with a smile, that's how I knew him.

"Yeah." Derek said to us without looking back.

"If you see photographers, call security." Callie said to us, I nodded.

"Tell your interns no autographs, no pictures. I see anyone pull out a camera phone, it's going in the toilet." Bailey said to us, I understood that. You wouldn't ant people taking pictures of you when you're in pain.

"So there are four of us on one patient?" Meredith asked Bailey, that was for reasons.

"Oh, come on." Adamson said to her.

"He's a high profile patient. He gets a lot of attention." Bailey said to us, that was true.

"I thought we agreed to stop meeting like this?" Derek asked him with a smile, so this wasn't their first time meeting.

"Hey, what can I say, man? I missed your smiling face." Tom said to him with a smile.

"Good to see you." Derek said before nodding.

"Head trauma, but GCS 15 since regaining consciousness. He got high/lowed by a couple of their linebackers. Dropped like a rock." One of the guys told Derek, that wasn't sounding so good, we got Tom to a trauma room.

"Ok, get X-ray in here for a trauma series." Bailey said to us.

"Tenderness in the upper left quadrant." Mer said to us.

'I'm gonna need a CT." Derek said to us.

"Got it." Adamson said to him, so much was happening in this small space.

"There's a pain and crepitance in the knee." Alex said to us, this was a lot.

"Uh, get an X-Ray of the left knee with the trauma series." Callie said to us.

"On it." I said to her before getting the X-Ray ready.

"I saw that hit. That was a bad hit. I...I knew it the minute I saw it. I k ew before you even hit the ground, that was bad." Tom's wife said while entering the room.

"Hey, hi, sweetheart. Oh, and that's my boy." Tom said with a smile, his son was very cute.

"Oh, he's very cute." Derek said to them with a smile.

"Dr. Shepherd..." She started at him.

"He's gonna be fine. He's gonna be fine. Now I can't have you in here with the baby, ok?" Derek said to them both with a nod.

"Ok, um, littlest high-five in the world." Tom said before he got the littlest high five.

"Hey, we'll come and find you the second we know what's going on." Bailey said to her with a nod.

"I love you, babe. Don't give him too much morphine. It makes him goofy." She said to us before going to leave.

"I won't, I won't." Derek said as she left.

"How great is that kid, huh?" Tom asked Derek with a smile.

"He's pretty great." Derek said before patting Tom's shoulder. People left except from a few of us, then went to watch what happened. Once I was finished I saw Addison.

"Oh, my god. Addie." I said before giving her a hug.

"How have you been?" She asked me with a smile.

"Not good, how about you?" I asked her.

"I've been fine, tell me about what's going on." She said to me and we began talking before she had to go. It turned out that Tom just had a concussion but hopefully there was something Ortho related. I saw Alex and he told me about Reed wanting to go on a date. I knew her plan. Kind off. When it got to lunch I had it with Addison, we discussed California. She asked me if I was seeing someone and I told her about Jackson. She then had to go to her surgery on Sloan. There wasn't much for us to do today. Callie and I had an easy shift. So did Alex, I was asking him about what he was going to do with Reed. He said he had plans. He then went to watch Cristina's surgery and I went to talk with Addison. Callie told me that they're might be a knee replacement surgery to go ahead. It was agreed and we started it.

"Drill, please, you'll log enough hours with a scalpel. At some point, you'll be surgeons. And one day...you'll look up and realize, 'wow, there's more in the world than cutting.' Tom Kates' career is ending. That is what's happening in this room. So could you for one second think about something other than yourselves? Bone saw. God. I can't believe I'm taking out the best quarterback Seattle's ever seen." Callie said to us, I could tell she was going to feel guilty.

"You're not. He was out of the game a long time ago." Derek said to her trying to make her feel a bit better. I was starting to feel guilty about this now. When shift was over I went to Joe's.

"You look rough." Joe said me.

"I just helped end a man's career. That apparently was already ending." I said to him, he handed me a drink. I was gonna need a few to drown out this guilt.
