108. I Saw What I Saw

I don't think that anyone was expecting the course of events that would take place today. We had traumas coming in but one of them died after not be attended too. Now we were trying to solve who was at fault. But let me be the one to tell you that it wasn't me. We were all waiting to be interrogated. I was sat in between Cristina and Lexie.

"Someone's getting fired." Reed said, she was right. And it wasn't any of us Seattle Grace lot.

"Stop it." April said from beside her.

"She wasn't even my patient." Charles said, that didn't matter an innocent woman still died in the ER.

"What?" Cristina asked.

"Now, please tell me my eyes aren't acting up and that he really didn't just say that." I said to Cristina.

"Nothing." Charles said to us.

"Good." I said to him.

"How long is this gonna take?" Alex asked us.

"As long as possible apparently." I said to him, I needed to pick Caleb up soon.

"Why, you need to make a phone call?" Jackson asked him making Charles snicker. I wasn't happy with him after today. Alex got up and started fighting him.

"Whoa!" Owen shouted.

"Alex stop!" I shouted at him.

"Get off of him!" April shouted, Owen then managed to pull them away. Mark and Derek had to step in as well.

"That's enough!" Webber shouted whilst entering the hallway.

"Are you kidding me?" April shouted at Lexie, she hadn't done anything wrong.

"I said enough!" Webber shouted. We all stopped what we were doing. "What happened here tonight, what happened to that patient was inexcusable. And we're gonna be here till I find out who's responsible for it. So until then, you will sit down, you will shut up and you'll wait to be called. Hunt." Webber said before calling Owen in. This was gonna take a while.

"I'm not going down for this." Cristina said to him.

"Someone is." Owen responded. I was just waiting to be called. I was just waiting to be called in. When I was I just wanted to leave.

"Y/l/n, what were you doing when the patient came in. Please start from the beginning as well." Webber said to me.

Earlier that night

I was talking with Callie when my pager went off. I made it to the pit with Cristina. "Try to keep the burn unit and the trauma rooms clear. And call respiratory. We need ventilators on standby." Owen said to the nurses when we arrived.

"I'm on it." A nurse said to him.

"I got a burn victim and her kid. Take your pick." Owen said to us. Bailey then walked over to us as we were reading the charts.

"Yang, Y/l/n, come with me." Bailey said to us. I was just hoping someone would be taking care of them and soon.

"Oh, we can help." Someone said to us, Cristina handed them the charts.

"Make sure to check them both out throughly." I said to them, not looking back to see who it was.

Now

"Who did you and Cristina hand it to?" He asked me, I thought for a second.

"I think it was Adamson." I said to him while nodding.

"Are you sure?" He asked me.

"Yeah, I'm sure." I said to him with a nod.

Back to earlier

Another case came in and I was put on that. A teenager was severely burned up and I was put on the case. Along with Arizona, we had to get  Mark with us.

"Evan Lang, 16, second and third-degree burns over 60% of his body. Hey, Grey. Come on when you're done, 'cause we need hands." Arizona said as we got him into a trauma room. The only thing we could hear was Evan whimpering which was upsetting to hear. We heard him shout and groan in pain the poor kid. No one deserved to be in this much pain. Lexie then joined us. "It's okay. You're gonna be ok." Arizona said to him he then screamed in pain. "We're just gonna examine you, then we're gonna get you warmed up again, ok, Evan?" Arizona asked him, he groaned.

"You're in good hands, Evan." I said to him softly.

"My dad. Where's my dad?" He asked us, I was hoping that he was alright.

"You just give me his name, and we'll find him, ok? 'Cause he's gotta be looking for you, too." Arizona said to him. I started talking to him to calm his nerves. Mark and Lexie were talking, I didn't think that she would be able to cope.

Now

"Who was working on Mrs. Becker at the time?" Webber asked me.

"I don't know, I was working with Sloan, Robbins and Grey all night." I said to him.

"So you never heard her complaining of pain?" He asked me, never.

"Not at all. The last time I saw her she was dying." I said to him, this night was terrible.

2 hours earlier

"All right, people, people, listen up. The burn unit and the ICU are full. All patients are staying here until some beds open up, all right?" We heard Callie shout from outside. Mark then leaned outside the door.

"Let's keep the trauma rooms clear for the burn cases, please." Mark said before shutting the door again. Evan was crying and screaming which was just utterly heartbreaking. Lexie wasn't holding up to well.

"I can't get a pulse on the doppler." Arizona said to Mark and I.

"Ok, Evan, I have to do an escharotomy. Now I have to cut into the burned skin to restore circulation to your arm, ok?" Mark asked him, he was about to be in so much pain.

"Did you find my dad?" He asked us while crying.

"You know what I'll ask again in a sec, ok? Push another 25 of fentanyl. Ok, Evan, you're just gonna talk to me, all right? So you said you're in town looking at a college?" Arizona said, it was good to keep him talking about things to take his mind off of everything.

"Yeah, I got a scholarship to Cornish. I'm not sure I can take the rain." He said before screaming as Mark was relieving the pressure.

"No! No!" He shouted.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I know. You're ok, pal. You're gonna be ok." Mark said to him.

"That's what I thought at first, too. About the rain. Dr. Grey, you grew up here, right? So you get used to the rain? And Dr. Y/l/n, you grew up in England so there was a lot of rain right?" Arizona asked us.

"Yeah, there was a lot of rain but you get used to it." I said to Evan with a smile. We heard Lexie crying. She wasn't coping.

"Lexie." Mark whispered to her.

"Dr. Grey, step out. Come back when you've got it together. Go." Arizona told her, she then left the room. We stayed to help Evan. After some time Lexie joined us again. Arizona then went to get her, that's why she joined us again.

"Ok, here's the thing about the rain, it usually just drizzles. It's-it's not like tonight. But when it stops, everything is super green, and it's beautiful, and it smells like trees. You know that smell?" Lexie said to him with a smile, I was glad that she collected herself. We then all managed to work on Evan and help him through his tough time.

Present time

"Thank you, Dr. Y/l/n for telling us everything that happened." Webber said to me, I nodded.

"I'm sorry if I was no help." I said to him before heading back to the hallway. Reed went in and when she came out the atmosphere changed.

"What?" April said while standing up and looking at her.

"I'm sorry. I am so, so sorry." Reed said to her.

"Dr. Kepner." Webber said calling her in.

"What-what did you tell them? What did you say?" April asked before Reed walked away. I stopped reading my magazine to look at April go into the room. We all started talking with each other. When all this was over Lexie and I went to go and talk with Evan before I went to start heading home. April had been fired which didn't bother me in the slightest, she messed up and let a woman die. I had no sympathy.
