Steven looked up at the ceiling. The gems were gone on a mission. That was a good thing. Sometimes just being alone was good. At least to Steven. He went back To a question he always thought about when the gems were gone. Did he need to exist? He knew that he had helped the gems in many ways but still there is always another way to solve a problem. A lot of times he thought it would just be better to not be there. For his mom to this be there. She was amazing. Himself he was just a science experiment. To be or not to be? A huge question that he had no answer. Then the warp pad went off. He sat up and went down stairs.
"How was your mission?" He asked trying to sound normal
Pearl replied with "Good."
The three gems realized the boy wasn't acting like himself.
"Are you ok Bud?" Asked Amethyst
He nodded. Now they knew something really was wrong.
"Steven we know something's wrong." Said Pearl.
"Yeah we're not idiots." Amethyst almost shouted
"Amethyst." Garnet said "Can you please tell us." Garnet asked Steven.
He was staring at anything but them.
"Can I go up stairs?" He asked quietly
"Of course." Replied Pearl
He went up stairs and cried into his pillow.
The gems went into Garnet's room.
"We need to do something." Pearl pleated.
"Yeah P except we can't help him if we don't know what it is!" Amethyst shouted
"Alright you two I get it." Garnet started. "But we simply can't ask him because he no going to reply." "Something is seriously wrong." "And terrible things can happen if we don't find out what's going on."
"But how are we going to find out?" Pearl Asked
"We're going to have to get direct information from him."
"Then let's go than!" Shouted Amethyst.
As they got up stairs they got quieter and quieter. The child was under his covers  and his face against his pillow.
Pearl took off the blanket and took the pillow away from his face.
He stared at them for a second before covering his face with his hands.
"Steven can you please tell us what's wrong we can't help you if we don't know what's going on." Garnet said
He took his hands away from his eyes stared at them and told them "Self doubt." Before putting his hands back on his eyes.
Then gems thought for a second.
"Are you doubting if you should be alive?" Pearl asked
He nodded. Then the three gems enveloped him in a tight hug.
They all whispered "Your important to us."
"Really?" He asked
"Really."
