Imagine Twenty Two

Now you see her!

Shehnaaz tapped incessantly at her phone screen, a very prominent frown etched on her face. She leaned against the railing, shifting her weight to her right foot.

Take my damn call.

She groaned quietly to herself and pressed the device to her ear. Last chance, Shukla.

After what felt like hours of ringing, she heard a click on the other end of the call and music blasted through the phone, causing her to pull the phone away from her ear before she pressed the end call button. She pursed her lips, displeasure clear as day on her face.

Is se accha toh mai khud cab bula leti.

She sighed, clicking open her smartphone and tapped on the cab application when she heard a pair of familiar voices call out for her. She glanced wearily to her right and saw Kushal and Jay walking-- scratch that-- running towards her

"Sorry sorry.. sorry. Late ho gaya-- Shehnaaz tu theek hai na?" Jay asked frantically, scanning her from head to toe while Kushal caught her into an embrace making her giggle and return the gesture.

"Jisko phone karke bulaaya tha, woh kahan hai?" Shehnaaz asked, once she had pulled away from Kushal. Her eyebrow raised in a look of pure intimidation & authority.

"Venue pe. Party hai na aaj darling, toh kisi ne usko nikalne nahi dia. He wanted to. Usne bahot try kia, but at the end of the day he's the host. Tera phone aate hi usne hum dono ko bheja." Kushal explained. Shehnaaz's eyes narrowed, just for a second and Kushal bit back a grin.

"I came back from toronto after three months and.." She grumbled, frowning adorably at a distant point in front of her. Usko toh mai dekhti hu baad mein.

"Ghar pahunch ke, tabiyat se laga lena uski class. Abhi chal." Kushal said knowingly.

Shehnaaz sat in the back of the car while the boys made their way towards the front. A few minutes after Jay began to drive, Shehnaaz's eyes fell on a bouquet of her favorite white roses and a soft gasp left her mouth.

"Sidharth ne rakhwaaya tha, aate waqt. Yeh pick karne mein hi late ho gaya." Kushal explained and flicked the car lights on. A small smile fought its way towards her lips as Shehnaaz reached for the bouquet. A printed card stuck out from between the flowers.

Sorry I couldn't be there to get you. Trust me, I tried. I know tu bhadki hui hai.. and rightfully so. I'll make it up to you, I promise. Jaldi aaja, I miss you ♡

She rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "Aisi harqatein karta hai, gussa bhi nahi rehne deta kameena."

Jay and Kushal laughed from the front of the car

The party was in full swing. Music practically pulsing through the walls of the place. Shehnaaz bit her inner cheek before stepping through the entrance of the discotheque.

"Migraine pakka hai aaj.."

Jay wrapped a protective arm around her shoulder and walked in, chuckling softly at her remark. "You love parties."

"Wrong. I love having fun with people that I love and people who love me. Lately, parties and social gatherings are the only place for that." Shehnaaz informed him.

Jay nodded thoughtfully.

Once they were inside, Jay made a beeline for Sidharth who was mingling in a quiet spot at the very far end of the room. Shehnaaz followed his line of vision and smiled once Sidharth's eyes met hers. He excused himself from the company and reached them in a few hasty strides.

"You're here."

The way his eyes lit up on seeing her was worth watching, needless to say, Shehnaaz melted a little.

"Sambhal ab isko. Mai baad mein milta hoon tujhe." Jay said, finally letting go of Shehnaaz following which she was immediately wrapped into a tight, warm hug.

"Flowers mile?" Siddharth asked Shehnaaz eagerly.

Shehnaaz nodded. "They were very beautiful."

"They were your favorite. Of course they were pretty, like you!" Sidharth said, kissing her cheek.

"There's no point in buttering me up now. Mai wahaan poore aadhe ghante wait kar rahi thi aur tujhe mera phone uthaane ki fursat bhi nahi mili." Shehnaaz complained.

Sidharth clicked his tongue and looked back at her with his best puppy eyes. "I'm sorry, please forgive me." He said with a cute, baby voice.

Shehnaaz chuckled, "Mera nona baccha.." and kissed his lower jaw affectionately.

"Thoda upar baby.." Sidharth continued in the same tone as before, making Shehnaaz utter a soft coo at his expense before shaking her head. "Baad mein. Ghar jaake."

"Promise?"

Shehnaaz nodded, almost completely in awe of her man.

How did she end up with him?!

Shehnaaz was talking to a friend, a few feet away from Sidharth, who was busy entertaining his own gang of boys. She was stealing glances every few minutes.

"Go.  You're not interested in this conversation anyway." Jia said, teasingly. Shehnaaz's cheeks turned pink.

"Uh.. no-- I.." She stuttered, embarrassed.

Jia shook her head good-naturedly & pushed her. "Ja baba.. sab pata hai humein."

Shehnaaz bit her lower lip, her face now completely red.

"Hey there." Sidharth felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around, expecting to see his girlfriend standing behind him with an expression, half exasperated-half adorable.

Instead, he was met with a woman he had never had the chance of seeing before in his life, giving him a flirty smile.

Sidharth cleared his throat, blinked a few times and smiled at her "How can I help you?"

"You could take me dancing. The party is looking lifeless." She said with half an eye roll.

"Excuse me?" Siddharth raised his eyebrow at the woman.

Was she trying to flirt with me?

The girl was taken by surprise, clearly not used to her advances being rejected. She looked at him startled for a second before she found her composure & walked closer to him. "Don't disappoint a lady. Dance with me."

The woman ran her fingers across his right cheek, looking into his eyes invitingly.

"He has a girlfriend, you know."

Sidharth was indebted, God's honest truth-- indebted to whoever had said that, for the woman's eyes flashed panic for a tiny second, the second that he needed to respectfully distance himself from the woman.

The woman, however, seemed to have a different plan, for she practically pounced on him again. "I don't see her." She purred, smiling seductively.

Sidharth chuckled, pulling away. "I do."

"She's not here." The woman, clearly drunk and stubborn, was getting restless now. Sidharth clicked his tongue as he watched, almost amused, as his lioness practically tore the clingy woman away from him.

"Turn around." She commanded with ruthless authority.

Siddharth's eyes went wide as the woman readily obeyed, half smug and overconfident, half driven by instinct to obey the authoritative tone in Shehnaaz's voice.

F**k. The woman was ancient history now.

"Now you see her." Shehnaaz said coldly.

The woman's eyes flashed fear. "You are.." She gasped halfway through her sentence for air, "You're his girlfriend."

"No sh*t sherlock."

Sidharth almost howled in laughter at her quip.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know.."

"I'm pretty sure Jay informed you, and so did the man you were flirting so hard with." Shehnaaz said, her voice dripping with contempt.

"I should.. I should leave." The woman said, her voice getting smaller and smaller, every second that passed.

Shehnaaz smirked. "That's actually the best idea you've had since your pathetic attempt at trying to steal my boyfriend."

The woman gulped, ready to bolt out of there, at a moment's notice. Sidharth walked over to Shehnaaz and pulled her in for a kiss, right after "the evil witch of the west" left for her dungeons.

"You have no idea how much I wanted to do that." Siddharth mumbled against her lips before he plunged deeper into her mouth, as if making a point.

Once they were breathless, Sidharth reluctantly pulled away. "Kahan gayab thi tu itni der se?"

"Teri tareefein sunn rahi thi guests se. I know I  missed the premiere, but I'm glad for that now. Theatre mein seetiyon ke saath dekhne ka maza hi kucch aur hai." Shehnaaz grinned, excitement shining in her eyes.

Sidharth smiled at her. "I was thinking of arranging a private screening. Just for the two of us. Tujhe theatre mein dekhni hai toh.." Siddharth shrugged, his smile dripping with mischief.

Shehnaaz raised her eyebrow at him. "Private screening huh?"

Sidharth nodded.

"Are you sure we'll be watching the movie during that time?" She asked, feigning curiosity.

Sidharth took on a look of pure offense. "Gandi baatein."

Shehnaaz shrugged, chuckling softly.

Sidharth sighed, pressing his forehead gently against hers. "I missed you, sweetheart. Don't ever go away for so long again." He demanded.

"I can't help it, can I?" Shehnaaz said quietly.

Sidharth pouted, "I know you can't. It's not fair."

"I know its not."

"Let's say our goodbyes and go home. I'm tired." Shehnaaz said cutely. Sidharth brushed a strand of her hair away from her face. "You took the words right out of my mouth. This party is long dead."

Shehnaaz laughed.

"Kitne dinn baad tujhe hug karke sone ko milega." Shehnaaz sighed, still grinning widely.

Sidharth leaned over to kiss her head.

"I missed you, mera baccha."

"I know you did. Ab mai bahot daer tak kaheen nahi jaane waali." Shehnaaz told him firmly.
