Imagine Thirty
Siddharth hated social media. The only time he ever really went online was from Shehnaaz's account, because her accounts were super fun, or to post gift stories, the latter he did with a huge smile on his face, with his Naaz gushing over all the love that the two of them received from their fans and on some occasions (and cheat days) sneaking a chocolate from the huge everpresent pile in the kitchen.
Occasionally, he'd go to Twitter. Tweet something intelligent, or something witty (it went over Shehnaaz's head on the first try 90% of the times and he'd catch her laughing/scowling hours later, after finally figuring it out.)
But most of the time, he didn't need social media to kill time or to entertain himself. Shehnaaz had taken up that responsibility a long time back. Shehnaaz was the entertainment queen of the country, but to Siddharth, she was his personal ball of light and energy, and she could never let a moment pass between them that she didn't make him smile.
Siddharth sighed tiredly, rubbing his temple gently and then shaking his head.
He missed her!
He missed the freaking way her soft fingers felt on the sides of his head when she pressed his forehead to relieve him of the building headache after a long day at work.
Siddharth felt like an idiot. It was not like he hadn't lived alone before, but today, the room felt like it hadn't felt in ages. It felt deserted. Devoid of life.
He whined. Siddharth wanted to call Shehnaaz and scream at her, scold her for leaving him alone and going thousands of miles away after making him so habitual to her constant presence to the point that he felt like an addict!
But, the rational side of him rebuked him. He knew that he couldn't just call her and make her anxious about himself when she herself was so far away from him, and thus, the Sensible Shukla-ji found a different way to vent his frustration.
Twitter.
He looked back at the phone that lay discarded on the bed and unlocked it. A smile formed on his lips on seeing his recent app, the gallery. Full of Siddharth & Shehnaaz's pictures. He quickly exited the gallery and switched to Twitter, where he was currently on a spree of witticism.
He could almost almost envision the look of surprise on Shehnaaz's face when she read all of his replies.
After a few minutes of going through more tweets, he found his next target. A smirk lit up his face. This was a good way to de-stress. He was about to press the tweet button when his notification buzzed with a message from Shehnaaz..
Bebu, good morning.
Siddharth grinned like a child, switching applications, and opened Shehnaaz's chat head.
Good morning. Tu uth bhi gayi?
Nahi.. sote-sote message kiya hai tujhe 😒
Tere standard ke hisaab se bhot jaldi hai sweetheart. Isiliye bola mene. 😅
Mere standard ki tu chod, yeh Twitter pe konsa bhoot replies kar raha hai?
Mein hi kar raha hoon yaar..
Bebu.. teri tabiyat theek hai na?
Tujhe mere canada mein hone ka sadma wadma toh nahi lag gaya kutte?
Kya zaroorat hai aise replies karne ki?
Time-pass kar raha hoon. Bore ho raha tha mein. Mera all-india-radio canada mein jaake jo baitha hua hai.
Aww, kullu ko yaad aa rahi hai?
Haan na.. call karu abhi?
Siddharth had barely seen the ticks on his massage turn blue when his phone buzzed with an incoming video call.
Guess she was missing me too.. Siddharth mused. He quickly accepted the call and saw his little baby girl grinning on the phone screen.
Siddharth's heart quickened.
"Meri jaan.."
Shehnaaz smiled shyly. "Missing missing."
"Mein bhi baby. Shoot khatam hone waala hai. Tu bole toh mein aa jauin?" Siddharth asked hopefully.
"Offer accha hai, but mein shoot karuingi toh tu bore ho jaayega. Tu toh punjabi bhi thodi-thodi samajhta hai. Yahaan par left-out lagega teko bebu."
"Mujhe yaad aa rahi hai Shehnaaz.." Siddharth whined to her. "Meko neend bhi nahi aati tere bagair."
Shehnaaz sighed. "Mera baccha, mein samajhti hoon na. Thode dinn ki baat hai. Mein bhot jaldi aa jaungi, promise." She explained to Siddharth.
Siddharth almost protested again but then stopped himself.
There was no point in getting her upset when she barely had anyone familiar around her.
"Accha.. baby tu saara dinn kya karti hai udhar hotel mein?" Siddharth asked curiously.
"Phone chalati hoon, T.V. dekhti hoon, soti hoon. Bore hoti hoon. Terko aur maa ko miss bhi karti hoon." Shehnaaz counted everything off her fingers, looking like an adorable little kid.
Siddharth smiled at the bundle of cuteness and blew a virtual kiss in her direction.
"Brush kari ya subaah uth-te hi phone pe baith gayi?" Siddharth asked firmly.
"I have brushed, bathed and eaten, teri tarah nahi ki uthne ke baad dus ghante lagauin-gi sochne mein ki nahaana hai ya nahi.."
"Aye.. mein roz nahata hoon samjhi!" Siddharth exclaimed, faking offense.
Shehnaaz grinned. "Mera kullu. Tu bada cute lag raha hai abhi, pata hai."
Siddharth rolled his eyes, while a small smile tugged at his lips. "Baby tu theek hai na udhar. Zyaada problem nahi ho rahi hai na?"
"Mein pehli baar nahi aayi hoon canada akele Siddharth. I'm fine. Pareshaan mat ho." Shehnaaz said softly.
"Mere paas se toh pehli baar gayi hai na aise itna door." Siddharth responded in a quiet tone.
"Mein theek hu kullu! Sacchi.."
Siddharth nodded. "First schedule kab hai?"
"Sonam ke saath hai intro shot, woh log pehle apne individual khatam karenge. Mera five days baad start hoga." Shehnaaz informed him.
"Fir tu holi ke time tak aa jaayegi?" Siddharth asked hopefully.
Shehnaaz nodded. "Hanji. Idhar ka schedule 25 ya 26 ko khatam hoga, probably 28 tak aa jaungi but udhar aakar quarantine karna pade maybe. Covid cases are spiking again, na."
Siddharth pouted. "Tu aur time door rahegi baby?"
"Haaye. Aise sad hoke mat bol na kullu. Tu hi bola tha na mujhe ki hum hamesha physically saath rahe ya na, mann se, emotionally hamesha ek doosre ke paas rahenge. Tujhe yaad hai last jab tujhe typhoid tha biggboss mein? Hum saath nahi the, but mujhe poora time lagta rehta tha ki tu kaheen paas hi mein hai aur jis dinn tu waapis mere paas ane waala tha tab mera mood kaise ek dam khush ho gya tha.."
"Tab toh mein roz aise tera sir bhi nahi na khaa sakti thi puttu.. ab toh mein tujhe kabhi bhi phone kar sakti hoon. Baat kar sakti hoon tujhse aur tu bhi mujhse. Tu bola tha na ki hamaari duniya alag ho jaayegi, par dekh baba-ji ne hum dono ki duniya ek kar di Tujhe meri duniya bana diya.. mujhe sab kucch de diya. Jab woh yeh kar sakte hai, humaari khushi ke liye toh woh mujhe aur tujhe sad bhi nahi karenge heina Mein cheti-cheti tere paas aa jaungi aur tujhe bhot tight se hug kar loongi. Bilkul nahi chodungi tujhe." Shehnaaz said with a watery smile on her face.
"Bilkul mat chodna.. mein bhi nahi chodunga. Tujhe chupa ke rakh loonga apne paas.. apne ander phir kaheen nahi jaa paayegi tu. Dekhna." Siddharth said, childishly, making Shehnaaz giggle.
"Tu mera sab kucch hai baby. Tere baba-ji ne mujhe mera sab kucch de diya tujhe de kar. Hamesha aise hi rahegi na Shehnaaz?"
"Haan. Bilkul aise hi rahoongi aur tujhe pareshaan karti rahungi. Bas tu bhi bilkul aise rehna.. okay?"
"Done. Oye gadhi.. tu kab itni samajhdaar ho gayi bey? Tu toh bilkul mature-mature baat karne lag gayi hai. Mujhe samjha rahi hai.. logic laga rahi hai.." Siddharth looked pleasantly surprised at the maturity of her words and demeanor.
Shehnaaz giggled. "Jab hum door hote hai na baby, toh tu sana bann jaata hai. Teri logical side mujhe shift ho jaati hai aur mera emotion tujhe.."
"Toh abhi tu Siddharth hai?"
Shehnaaz nodded with a childish grin.
"Bilkul gadhi hai tu.." Siddharth rolled his eyes at her.
"Teri gadhi hoon mein."
At those words, Siddharth could help but smile contentedly.
"Meri hi hai. Hamesha ke liye."
Shehnaaz sighed. "Mann kar raha hai Maa ke saath baat karne ka.. woh jaagi hai abhi?"
Siddharth nodded. "Haan abhi uthi hai Maa. Ruk mein leke jaata hoon room mein unke paas.."
Shehnaz nodded, and Siddharth got out of his own bed, walking towards his mother's room.
"Bebu.. love you.."
"Love you too, moti.."
Something of how the babies might have been, for the duration of Canada trip. I hope you like.
Let me know, ig
