Baby Monster (Korean: 베이비몬스터) is a three-member South Korean co-ed group that was formed in 2017 and debuted in 2019 under Alex Entertainment. This group is composed of Soyeon, Lia, and Felix. Baby Monster debuted with the single 'Crazy' (미쳐) on October 18th, 2019. This was followed by their first mini album 'Got That Boom' (그 붐을 얻었다) on January 1st, 2020, a self-produced five-track EP consisting of title track 'Got That Boom', 'Dazzle Dazzle', 'So Bad', 'Yes Or Yes', and 'Zombie'.

The group's official positions are as follows:

You know how they always tell you to step out of your comfort zone? Yeah. I f#king FLEW out of it.

Okay, so my original concept had a lot more members. Baby Monster was actually supposed to have six members: Soyeon ((G)I-DLE), Mark (NCT), Lia (Itzy), Felix (Stray Kids), Giselle (aespa), and Hueningkai (TXT). However, after I did the typography, I realised I wouldn't have enough space for six members, so I just picked three and rolled with it. Sorry Mark, Giselle, and Hyuka 😭

The group name was inspired by the Baby Monster team from Girls Planet 999, who performed 'Crazy' by 4Minute. (That performance was probably my favourite GP999 performance, honestly.) For the 'Baby' part, I went for a funky, hyperpop style using lots of bright colours and hand-drawn stuff. I kept the childish, young vibe with candy, neon, and only used members of 4th gen groups.

The title was styled with a dragon clipart. (The 'Monster' part.) I put the dragon there, used mesh form to bend the letters in the shape of a dragon, and then deleted the dragon itself. After that, I added stroke, glow, and the PNGs. (Made by yours truly, tqvm.) Then I doodled on them for that kinda poppy, funky style. After that, I hand-drew all the candy (and the little action bubbles!) and finally doodled random stuff all over the crumpled paper base.

I made about seven 'groups', but ended up going with Baby Monster as it was the coolest. Other options included Boss B!tch, made of: Namjoon, Moonbyul, Jin, Seulgi, Rosé, Yoohyeon and Chaeyoung with an elegant suit concept. Another option was Scarlet Hearts, made of: Ni-ki, Ryujin, Yuqi, Beomgyu, and Chan, who would go for a vampire concept. A third option was Rose-Y, made of: Sana, Joy, IU, Jisoo, JiU, and Yeri, who would embody the classic cute pink fairy concept. There was also Blossom (mystical fairy concept), Alice (psychedelic concept), and Angel Baby (elegant sakura concept), but again, I ultimately went with Baby Monster.

I assigned them positions based on what I think they'd suit best, and also according to their original group positions. I originally didn't want to give Lia Lead Dancer (since I think Soyeon's dancing is still better) but I didn't want her to have only one position so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I also didn't really wanna give Felix Lead Rapper (since I personally think his actual rapping is still quite weak, no hate Felix ily i'm sorry 😭) but he's definitely better than Lia. Soyeon is the Leader because she's (G)I-DLE's leader already. Their Main positions are self-explanatory. Felix is the Visual because he's part of Skz's visual line. He also got FOTG cause I think he's the most famous. (However, Soyeon got Centre cause she's the ace of the group.)

Overall, this is one of the hardest designs I've ever made, especially since it's wayyy out of my comfort zone. I'm not so confident in my art skills, so I usually don't hand-draw so much, but I did. I drew up a concept sketch, but ended up straying completely from it and no one is surprised. However, I'm quite proud of how this turned out, and I think it really turned out well. It's bright, it's poppy, it's original, and it works.
