Chapter 13

McKinley's POV

(a/n: this chapter discusses one of the characters having her period if that makes you uncomfortable, then please skip this chapter)

As the end credits played for Lost: The Core, I sighed, reminiscing the days when her parents would watch this with her. Now, they saw the patients in the E. R. more than me. I paused the movie and turned off the projector.

"All right, the class is over, so, bye? You are dismissed." I was still getting the hang of this "teaching" thing. It's not as easy as it looks. Mia Grace had hung around until most everyone was gone, and pulled me into an unexpected hug.

She continued that awkward moment by looking me straight in the eye and saying, "Whatever you need help with, please, ask me." And then leaving me, confused.
"Okay?" I replied, unsure of what just happened. Did my grandma die? Besides, how would she know, she hasn't met my parents.
Oh, snap! Mom and dad said they had something to tell me today after school.

I scrunched up my face, the acne on my face feeling more weird than usual.
Did they find out about my social studies grade?
Normally, I was great at social studies, but this year's class was harder. Due to the fact that it was harder, I ended up with a C on my last test. I sucked in a breath. Mia Grace came back to the classroom and was crying.
"McKinley,-" she snorted, snot flying out of her nose. Yes, it was as gross as it sounds.
" -why isn't there a bed or pillow in the classroom? And where is my blanket? " Mia Grace wailed while I grabbed the tissues and have them to her.

"And why don't they have Titanic? Or a T.V.?" She sobbed even harder.
"Then there's the part where my stomach wants to kill me" Mia Grace groaned, and it suddenly occurred to me that she was on her period. I was touched by this, considering I am of the female gender myself.
"How about we go to the nurse's office MG?" I tried my best to have a soothing tone, but it's when your best friend was crying and snorting and sniffling all over you.

"Fine, but don't call me MG, " Mia Grace whined, crossing her arms. I held in my laugh and dropped her off at the nurse's office before heading to the office.
"Hello, would you mind if I spoke to the principal?" I requested as the secretary sighed. She looked about 100 years old. Maybe even older!
"Sure doll, as long as you go tell her yourself. I'm not your secretary after all," Her raspy voice filling the air.
"Actually, you-" I paused earning a glare from the secretary.
"-have a very nice day ma'am," I scurried over to the prince's office and opened the door. You could see Principal Stevenson stacking and signing some papers, but then her half-moon glasses caught my gaze.

"Ah, Miss Dallas, so what do I owe the visit?" She smiled and you could see the twinkle in her eye.
"It's my friends, ah, how should I put this?" I wondered aloud, wondering how to say this without embarrassing Mia Grace.
"-time of the month? Yes, I know" She chuckled as she saw the look on my face.

"The nurse just called, he said that she would probably prefer to go home," I cringed as I remembered out school nurse was a man. Mr. Malloy must absolutely hate when this happens. Either that or he just doesn't care.
"Well, I believe she has no one to take her home or to watch over her," I began, but Mrs. Stevenson interrupted.

"Of course you can go home with her sweetheart, just make sure neither of you die," She smiled as I looked at her in shock. Did she just get married or something, because she is way happier than usual.
"Now run along dear, you wouldn't want to keep her waiting!" I nodded, and walked out to the main office, but not without hearing her ring the phone.

"Yes, Mr. McKiee, could you please send Brady up to the office? I need a substitute teacher for a class and he seems fit, " I could not believe it. I even snorted at the thought!
Brady, fit to teach other human beings? When pillows fly!
I was in shock at how she basically just said that Brady was at the same level of intelligence as me. So shocked that I walked straight into a pole.
