she crouched down behind the counter, slightly leaning into the opening underneath to move things over.
sadly, she didn't find what she was looking for, only extra packages of plastic bags, a small box of paperclips and an empty extra cash box among other random things.
huffing out a sigh, she rolled back on her heels and plopped down on the dirty tiled floor of the convenience shop. her hands went back to support her and she leaned her head back, letting her hair slip over her shoulders to hang down as she rolled her head around to stretch out her neck.
she contemplated laying down all the way but decided against it after worrying about how gross the floor was and what a customer would think if they walked into the shop to find her sprawled out on the floor behind the counter.
so, she opted to go back to sitting on the wooden stool, slouched over and letting her arms rest on the counter as she lowered her head to rest on top of them.
she thought of other places where she might find what she was looking for but the back room was too eerily quiet at this hour and there was no way that she was looking in there. and plus, there probably wasn't even anything in there that she was looking for.
so, she gave up on her search for a radio and checked her phone's battery life. four percent was unlikely to make it through her shift and there was no way it would make it ten minutes playing music. even if it was charged, she still had no idea what kind of music to play. she'd never really had the time to listen to music so she was clueless as to what was popular and what not.
sighing again, she thought about what sugar boy would do when he walked in. would he be mad that she didn't put music on like he suggested? wait? what was she thinking, she didn't need to listen to him. why was she worrying about this so much.
just as she was about to sigh again for probably the twentysomething time that night, she heard the door open. her head snapped up to see the boy who she'd just been thinking about.
his soft hair was tossed around and he looked tired, bags beneath his eyes hollowed out a portion of his face but he still had some color in his cheeks.
he shot her his usual quick smile, then walked over to the coffee machine who's hum had gone unnoticed to the girl.
he made his usual cup of coffee with four packets of sugar, snapped a lid on the cardboard cup, slipped on a burn protector sleeve thingy that she at the time realized she had no idea what was called, and made his way to the counter.
giving her another smile and placing his change on the hard surface between the two, he also pulled a piece of paper from his pocket.
“here. I made a short playlist for you incase you didn't have any music to play. you don't have to use it but here,”
he placed the paper on the counter, smiled for the third time that night and turned around.
"thank you,” she said just before he opened the door.
he turned around and nodded with a smile then made his way back to where ever he had come from.
