Quick Note. This takes place BEFORE Day of the Departed. Also, Nya & Jay never dated. They were just close friends in the universe of this book. PIXAL & Zane have never had any kind of a romantic relationship and she was never entered into his biometrics. She was just linked to them. She still has her original, though rebuilt, body. Cole & Jay's big fight that started in season 3 with all the nindroids and the digital overlord and what not was not over Nya, but instead over Jay feeling betrayed when Cole outs that he's gay. Plus Cole is pissed at Jay for outing his gayness as well. And no... JOLE is not a thing in this book unless you count their very much cannon bromance. Now that you know what your getting into, go. Chapter One: Medicine

Kai wakes up in his room yawning. Today Sensei Wu was giving them all a day off. It was nice to have a break from training and saving the world. Especially now that Cole was human again. The red ninja looks to Zane's side of the room. The Nindroid was already up and making breakfast. Kai smiles and walks over to his window, opening it up and looking out at the sky. It was nice and relaxing. His alarm goes off and he walks over to shut it off before heading to the bathroom and going under the counter to pull out a small box labeled: KAI'S. DO NOT TOUCH.

Kai opens up the box on the sink after locking the door. He pulls out a pill bottle labeled: 'AVATRAXCITE' And he opens it, spilling a single pill on his hand. He closes the bottle and uses the water in the sink to take the pill. He immediately puts the bottle back in the box where lay a bunch of papers labeled with the Light Mental Institution logo on each one. He closes the box and locks it before putting it back under the sink. He then does the rest of his normal morning business before heading out to breakfast just as the others wake up.

Once everyone is at the table, things carry on as per usual. Kai jokes around with everyone happily when Sensei Wu takes them out to the deck for training they all groan, even Nya. First Wu has them doing stretches and they all line up. Nya is on the far left with Kai to her right then Jay, Cole, Zane, and Lloyd in that order. Kai looses his balance for a second and falls on Jay, taking both males to the floor. Kai looks below him at the blue ninja and sees the way Jay's cheeks heat up quickly as his eyes never leave Kai's. Kai smiles for a second before remembering where they are and getting off quickly. "Sorry bud. I lost my balance there." Kai says normally as he helps Jay up. Jay, who is a blushing mess, suddenly finds the floor very interesting. "It... It's okay. I.... Um... Y-your cool. I-I get it." Jay stutters out. Kai raises a brow before shrugging and going back to stretching after patting Jay's back in sign to start stretching before Wu yells. Jay keeps an eye on Kai the whole of training after that. The blue ninjas blush over taking his cheeks. Cole gives him a confused/knowing/understanding look.

In the middle of training Kai starts overheating and removes his shirt. Jay immediately starts drooling and Cole snickers a bit at his best friend. Jay's eyes never leave Kai as Cole approaches. "Let me guess. You like Kai, don't you?" Cole asks him and Jay blushes. "M-maybe..." He says. Kai starts walking over and Jay freaks, whipping the drool on his GI. "Hey guys!" Kai says happily and Jay can't stop drooling. Cole face palms after looking over at Jay. Kai looks to see Jay and snickers a bit. "Got a drooling problem?" Kai asks, leaning in and whipping some drop off Jay's chin. Kai lets his eyes go half lidded and his voice lower as he does this, lifting an eyebrow as he smirks. Jay gulps with wide eyes and becomes flushed. Cole watches the scene in front of him with an amused smirk. Seeing what Kai could do to Jay was all to amusing.

Kai starts leaning in to Jay when the alarm goes off and he becomes pissed. The hot head sighs and moves away, heading to the brig. Jay stands stock still as if he were a statue. "Nice going." Cole says, bringing Jay out of his trance. "Yeah, yeah. Go ahead. Make fun. I'm such a looser for freezing.............. And drooling." Jay says, thinking Cole was picking on him as per usual. "No man. I mean it. Kai was obviously flirting with you man." Cole explains. "Y-you think so?" Jay asks with a small and hopeful smile. "I don't think so..." Cole starts with an angry look. "I KNOW SO!" He ends off happily. Jay chuckles at his friends theatrics. They make it to the brig and stand around the table as Misako gives them the down low on the mission.

"There are reports of a man in a white hood icing over Ninjago City." Misako says. Kai seemed in thought. "Icing over the city with what?" Nya asks. "He seems to posses the Ice element." Is Misako's answer. "How?" Cole asks. "Don't know" Is Misako's reply. Lloyd walked to the door. "Let's go guys." Lloyd says. The other ninja nodded and went with him.

Once in the city, Lloyd decided to split up in teams. "Okay... I guess we can pic our partners." Lloyd said, sounding a bit unsure. Cole thought. "I'll take Zane. Jay, go with Kai." Jay looked confused. "Why? Don't we usually team up on these things?" Jay asked. Cole sighed. "I wanna change things up. Nya, go with Lloyd. Part of being a team is being able to pair with any member of the team if need be. We can't keep falling in the same sets if that's to be achieved." Cole explained. Zane thought it over. "Cole stands correct." He tells the others. 

Once that was decided they split into their three teams and took off. Jay stuck close to Kai and could't seem to focus on the mission. Kai kept looking at the ice around them and using his fire to melt it. Jay snapped out of it after a bit when some water from the melting ice hit him in the face. He watched as Kai focused on the task and noted their differences. He noted how easily he could get distracted and how unwavringly focused Kai could get. He noted how carefree he was in comparison to Kai's natural serious nature, even if his ego and temper could mask it. He noticed how easy going he is in comparison to Kai's such hot temper. He also noted how much stronger Kai was then him both mentally and physically. Even emotionally. Kai was so put together. To the point that Jay was honestly jealous, but it just made the blue ninja fall for Kai more.

Kai soon turned around and smiled at his companion. He honestly loved Jay. Jay was just so quirky. A trait he liked. He also liked how intelligent Jay was. Jay was just so accepting, intelligent, quirky, fun loving, honest, kind, and over all an odd ball, but that's what Kai liked so much. He admitted that Jay could be immature, but he didn't mind much. Jay had this spark of life that Kai couldn't help but be attracted to. Didn't help that Kai was bisexual. One thing did scare him though. What if he finds out? Would Jay accept Kai's disorder?

After a bit Kai walked over to Jay. "Are you gonna do anything besides starring at me like a creep?" He asked his blue friend and crush. Jay blushed in embarrassment. "Sorry, but you don't seem to need any help." He said. Kai sighed in annoyance. "Then go ask questions. We need as much information as we can get Jay. I thought you were smarter then this!" Said the hot head. Jay pouted and left to go do as Kai asked.

Mean while...

Cole and Zane were walking down the streets. Zane was questioning as Cole smashed the ice apart. The two seemed to be a perfectly in sync team.

Nya and Lloyd also had little trouble. Nya questioned the people as Lloyd smashed the ice and melted it. Nya had some trouble tho. Few of the men took her seriously so Lloyd had to step in often.

After clearing the city they met up and the three teams went over their gathered intel, but not all was peaceful. The culprit showed back up and put the ninja in a block of thick ice before disappearing.

After a bit Kai used his fire to melt himself out of the ice. Kai then freed the others, starting with his dear sister. Once back at the bounty Zane found a note in his pocket that had only one word on it. ZAN.
