{Part Thirty-eight}

A few days later, on Thursday afternoon, I was sitting on my living room floor, watching cartoons. Even though it was only four o'clock, I'd put on my pajamas, because my regular clothes were being washed in the slightly iffy washer downstairs. For pajamas, I wore a plain dark gray t-shirt and, a bit embarassingly, a pair of dark blue pajama pants with green dinosaurs on them.

I simply sat there, on the floor, watching Phineas and Ferb and texting Jenna on the commercial braeks. She'd gotten over her flu, and we were currently talking about some boy she met at Target the other day. (A/N: Told you she's not dead xD)

When the timer on my phone went off, I knew it was time to get my laundry out. I texted Jenna a brief goodbye and left my apartment.

I walked at a casual pace down the hallway, and then down the stairs leading to the first floor. I walked through the hallway there, and into the laundgry room at the end of the apartment building.

The laundry room had a washer and a dryer, which, in return for a few quarters, would do your laundry for you. The dryer worked fine, but the washer was kind of sporadic. It could stop abruptly during the washing cycle and not continue until you put more quarters in it, even though the timer on the back stated that you had more time left.

Also in the laundry room was two vending machines, one for drinks and one for snacks. Sometimes if I didn't feel like cooking, I'd come down there and get myself something to eat. The drink machine had the basic brands of soda as well as water, and the snack machine had candy, mini bags of chips, and snack bars.

I wouldn't have dinner for at least another hour, but I was hungry, so before I got my laundry I paid for a bag of Skittles. I liked both chocolate and fruity candy, but that day I was in more of a fruity candy mood. I put the bag of Skittles in my pocket and went over the washer. (A/N: TASTE THE RAINBOW)

The timer on the washer was seemingly frozen on twenty-one minutes, and there was no sound coming from it. Sighing, I took three quarters out of my pocket and put them in the machine, but nothing happened.

I opened the lid of the machine to find that my clothes were just floating around in the washer, which was filled with soap. Clearly, they weren't done yet, and the washer seemed to have finally quit. Now what?
