{Part Fifty-four}
The next day was Monday. On a break from both work and school, I went home to eat lunch, to save money. I made myself a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and thought about last night.
After we had left my parents' house, Josh drove me home. He'd come up to my apartment for a bit, but we hadn't talked much. Instead, we cuddled on the couch under a fluffy blanket. It had been really nice, and I think it calmed both of us down.
After some time had passed, I nestled closer to Josh. "Do you think it went okay?"
Josh had nuzzled his face into the top of my head. "Me meeting your parents, or letting them realize you're non-hetero?"
"Both, I guess."
"I'm not really sure." Josh sighed quietly. "Sometimes it's hard to tell when somebody first finds out, you know? If they're surprised or confused, it can hide anything else they might be feeling."
"I think my mom liked you."
"Oh, please." Josh stuck out his tongue at me.
"No, really! Especially at the end, when you shook hands the second time. I think you're growing on her."
"I tried to be extra polite so they wouldn't hate my guts."
I kissed his cheek. "Who could ever hate someone like you?"
Josh left around ten thirty, and I fell asleep on the couch soon after. When I woke up, the only proof that last night had happened was the fact that I was still wearing my dress clothes.
As I let my mind wander on to other things, I finished my sandwich. There was a knock at the door. "Coming!" I swear, I thought to myself as I put my dish in the sink and headed to the door. I've had more visitors since I met Josh than I've had at all since I've moved.
I opened the door.
"Hello, Tyler."
It was my father.
