Chapter Six~ Closer

(Your POV)

By the end of the meeting, I'm very close to tears. There's so much tension between me and everyone, it's painful. Everyone besides Jared. Throughout the meeting he's been flashing me comforting smiles and grabbing my hand. It's kind of getting easier to handle that, since we've been around each other more. My fangirl wall is falling down.

"Okay, everyone," I tune back into Max's conversation, "Meet back here tomorrow, same time." Max directs this at me, "We're going to be doing measurements for costumes, and then you won't need to come back for five weeks. Within these five weeks, you should have your lines memorized, then we'll start rehearsals! You're dismissed!"

Everyone stands up and shuffles out of the room. As I'm walking down the hall, trying to keep from crying, Shailene jogs up next to me, "You okay, Y/N?"

"I'm fine." I lie, trying my hardest to keep my voice from shaking.

She stops in front of me, causing me to stop so I don't run into her, "Cut the crap, Y/N. We're going to be working together for a while, and we're going to be friends, and you're going to tell me what's wrong." She finishes with a smile and her hand rubs my shoulder.

I look down, "Just anxiety. It's normal for me."

"Is it because you were late? It happens. Don't be so hard on yourself." She tries calming me down, but she isn't too successful. It's not that easy.

"Max fired me, Shailene. It is bad. If it wasn't for Jared, I would be out of the movie." I sigh, the two of us starting to walk again.

"Speaking of Jared, I think-"

I cut her off by screaming. I'm lifted off my feet from behind. Tight arms are wrapped around my waist, and I recognize his cologne.

"Sorry, Shai! I need to talk to Alex!" Jared apologizes as he carries me out the door.

"Jared!" I laugh, my mood brightening, "Put me down!" He ignores my demand.

"Jared? Who's Jared? Alex, are you cheating on me?" He asks as we step into the parking lot.

I roll my eyes as he shifts me in his arms, "Put me down, Jayden!"

"But where's the fun in that, babe?" He pouts, quirking his eyebrows.

I crane my neck to look him in the eyes, butterflies in my stomach, "You do know our characters aren't this close, right?"

"Characters?" He smirks.

I playfully slap his arm, "Whatever, but can you seriously put me down now?"

He just grins and places me back on my feet. I fix my shirt then turn around to face him, "Thank you." I chuckle.

"Whatever." He mocks my tone from before.

I scoff, "Wow, you're a dick!"

He pokes my cheek, "I made you smile though."

A blush quickly rises to my face, "Yeah, I guess you did."

"You should smile more often, it suites you, Y/N." He says sincerely, making me blush harder. I'm surprised the butterflies haven't exploded out of my stomach yet.

Realization hits me, presenting me apon a golden opportunity, "Y/N? Who's Y/N? Jayden, are you cheating on me?" I smirk innocently, pushing out my bottom lip.

"Who's the dick now?" He mocks like a child.

"Well, wouldn't that make me a vagi- nevermind."

He laughs and playfully pushes me. When I steady myself, I shove my hands in my pockets and roll my eyes.

"You're weird." He says with a wink.

And you're sexy.

"So I've been told." I reply casually.

His face softens, "So... is it true? What the news articles and websites say?"

My smile drops, and so do the butterflies. I break eye contact, embarrassed, "To an extent. Some of the articles totally exaggerate and lie completely."

"I kind of figured that out. I mean, you don't really resemble what the articles said about you."

"You think?" I say, trying not to sound too hopeful.

He nods, a small smile playing at his lips, "I'm sorry about your parents. They'd be proud of you."
A bit of sadness takes over at the mention of my parents, but my emotions mostly consist of shyness, lust, and giddiness. Needless to say, I'm not usually involved in conversations, but ones with Jared are just calming.

"Thanks, Jared."

He smiles and wraps his arm around my shoulders, "Okay, enough of the sappy depressing stuff, how about we get to know each other better, other than what the internet says?"

I look up at him. He's pretty tall compaired to me, "How do you mean?"

"Well, I could go for a veggie burger. There's this cool place to grab some five minutes from here." He says, his blue eyes shimmering. My god, he's so perfect.

Wait...

"Are you asking me on a date?" I raise my eyebrows, regretting asking. If he says no, I'll be crushed. Why did I ask?

He shrugs, "I guess I am. Let's keep it professional.... for now." The last part was mumbled, and I don't think I was supposed to hear it. I can't help but smile, and it takes every ounce of me to keep myself from screaming.

"Cool," I reply, trying not to sound like I'm freaking out, "So, I'll follow you there?"

"Okay."

He pulls away, and his arm falls back to his side, my posture straightening slightly. We walk to our cars, and even though I can still see him, it feels lonely without him by my side.

I follow his car out of the parking lot and down the road. Like Jared said, it only took about five minutes to get there.

We park then both get out of our cars. When Jared gets out of his, he immediately puts his jacket hood up then jogs over to me.

"Have you ever been here before?" Jared asks.

"Nope." I answer shortly.

As we're about to go in, I notice a camera flash from our side, so does Jared. We both look over and see a man from the paparazzi across the street.

Jared sighs, "They're fucking everywhere all the time."

"It must get annoying." I state, trying to avoid the camera.

He grabs my hand and pulls me inside, "Yeah."

A small ring of a bell alerts our presence, and we take a seat down at a booth. I just hope I don't say anything to fuck this up.
