Delphi's Death

My face distorted in horror as the knife whizzed past Estelle, narrowly missing her chest straight towards my lower abdomen.

I froze, fear clouding my vision and clogging my brain.

The knife lodged itself in my stomach. I heard an ear-splitting scream as I fell to the ground. I didn't even know if it was Estelle or me.

The cruel women in the blood red cloak laughed menacingly and in a puff of smoke she was gone. Her cackles echoed around the deserted car park.

"Delphi! Delphi! Delphine!"

Estelle rushed to my side as I felt the wet crimson liquid gushing out of my stomach. I shook violently as I tried to lift up my head, but the shooting pain travelling from my chest to my stomach forced it down again. I was faintly aware of a gurgling sound.

She kneeled beside me and stroked my cheeks; tears pouring down her face. I attempted to lift up my arms to do the same, but they were surprisingly weak and they slumped down again.

I closed my eyes only to be slapped awake again by the panicking 17 year old girl.

"No, no... Stay with me, the ambulance is coming, talk to me!" Estelle was frantic; every time I tried to focus on her face it blurred.

The white spots I was seeing danced behind my eyelids, but I could still hear Estelle's sobs ringing in my ears.

That's when the aching really started. It crept up from my lower stomach like snake wrapping around my insides stopping me from breathing.

"Delphi! Delphi! Please wake up,"

My girlfriend's heartbroken voice along with the combination of the feeling someone punching my chest made me even more determined to live.

Estelle's mouth connected with mine and a large surge of air painfully entered my lungs. When opening my tear-filled eyes it was like lead weights were pressing them closed and my entire body burned with the effort.

It was all worth it though; just to see the love of my life for the last time, to look into her beautiful blue eyes and tear-stained cheeks.

Estelle let out a sob and, mustering up all the strength I choked back my tears and said,"Shh, it's okay, Stelli. I love you so much. Please look after Laila and... and...,"

"I will, I will. I love you, don't die on me now; I won't let you, please, please! The ambulance is here,"

Her voice faded from my hearing and I knew then that I was definitely going to die; that's when the crippling fear really started to roll in, in waves.

She was shaking me as I was going in and out of focus as the ambulance lights flashed and blurred into each other.

I touched my stomach and the blood soaked my hands. I felt my body going  limp and my eyes fluttering closed.

Estelle gave me my last ever kiss on Earth and in my dying breath I wished I'd had more time.
