Chapter 39
Jace's POV
Shit. I run a hand through my hair and sigh heavily. Robert and Michael are standing there in awe. If one of them talks I swear to god I will finish beating them to the ground. I walk to the edge of the wall and look for her. She's easy to spot as she runs in the direction of her apartment. I've got to tell Henry he'll be pissed off if I don't. I worry that she'll pass out on the street and some asshole will take advantage. Shit, I should probably go after her.
I don't though, I rush back inside leaving the two assholes I call my friends by themselves. I don't care that I gave Robert a black eye or that I probably broke his nose. You don't talk shit about someone I care about, ever. Care about, laughter fills me head because if I actually laugh out loud I'll look crazy. I push through the crowd, it's a bit overcrowded again tonight so it makes it a bit more difficult.
"Nicole!" I call out.
She's at the bar flirting with her man, if there was no one here she'd probably have him on the bar and have her way with him. Something I thought about doing so many times with Faith. Faith, I should be pissed at her for playing me, but I'm impressed more than anything else. What are the odds that I would meet my match? I wish I could tell her that her plan worked, a little too well.
Nicole looks my way as I call her name again. She looks angry when she see's me. I roll my eyes, this bitch has hated me this whole time but lately it's been worse. Her eyes change instantly, she must see the look on my face.
"What did you do to her?" is her first response.
She claws at my shirt and holds it in her fist pulling me towards her. Henry looks like he's about to jump over the bar and knock me on my ass. Fuck she's strong and her nail just dug into my chest.
"If you let me go I can tell you," I say.
She loosens her grip, but doesn't let go.
"I know where you sleep," she threatens. If this were any other day I'd laugh, but the girl I love looked like she was about to pass out, and I'd never forgive myself if something happened.
"Go find her, she didn't look good. She stumbled back towards the apartment. Don't ask questions just go," I tell her.
She looks at Henry who's trying to hear us over the loud bass. She nods and let's go not even turning to see her man. Pushing through the crowd I watch as she heads out the door. Henry's glare could literally kill me, if this were a sci-fi movie he'd be shooting lazer beams from his eyes.
"What did you do?" he questions his jaw tight.
I touch the scruff on my cheek and sigh. If I were him I'd have already jumped over that counter and smashed my dick in. He's not me though, even through anger he's a lot calmer.
"Fucked up what else is new?"
"Jace man please she's my friend just tell me," he says leaning over the bar.
"We're done her and I. We both played each other, she overheard. Not in the mood to talk about the rest, I'm sure you'll hear it all. She's not right tonight though, something is wrong. She almost passed out on the ground. I tried to get her to you, but she refused and I didn't want to piss her off anymore than she already was," I explain.
His eyes grow wide, he's torn between wanting to leave and knowing this place is his and he shouldn't leave. He touches his pocket and pulls out his phone. The look on his face nearly brings me to my knees. Something is wrong, but I'm not allowed to care or go after her. I brace myself for what he's about to say.
"I need to go," he tells me.
I nod, "I'll tell Roger there's an emergency," he says. "You're first official day as owner is tomorrow. This... she is more important," I say meaning it.
He starts to walk away to leave and I smack my hand on the bar. Vibrations crawl up my arm from impact. He turns to look at me with angry eyes, but he also looks thankful that I told them.
"Just tell me one thing," I say sucking in a breath. "Is she okay?" I say finally letting go.
He shakes his head, "Not sure, the ambulance is on it's way. Nicole said she passed out on the floor in front of her," Henry looks on the verge of tears. I feel them in my eyes too but force them away. I don't do that shit, cry. Pussy's cry, and that's something I'm not.
"Do me a favor man?" I ask. He waits, but I can tell his pateints is wearing thin. "Just text me to let me know if she's okay. That's all I need, I just have to know," I tell him.
He contemplates for a minute, and then nods. Without another word he slips out of the bar and out the door. My knees buckle under me so I sit at the bar.
"Yo Berman get me a scotch," I say holding up my hand.
Alex Berman nods and fills a cup for me. I chug it down and ask for another before he can walk away. I take three cups in under five minutes. My mind is one big cluster fuck right now. I head for the apartment, Roger stands at the bottom of the stairs.
"Henry had to go," I yell over the music. "Faith is in the hospital, might need you an extra day," I say.
"What about you? I'm supposed to finish packing, movers come Monday," he says.
"I don't think I'm staying," I admit.
"Running away again?" he asks.
"Fuck you Roger."
I have nothing left to say to him, and he's not someone I want to fight. All I want to do is go to my apartment and drink by myself. An arm grabs me just before I reach the first step. I can feel her sharp nails on my skin and cringe. I turn and Charlene stands there looking like a hot mess. Her tits pop out of her red top, and I can't help but stare.
"Looks like you could use some fun," she says.
She's both high and drunk, I know the crazy look in her eyes. There's only one thing she wants, but if I give in she'll want more. I already caved before I left the last time, only this time I've got nothing to lose. I already lost it all. I tug her arm and lead her upstairs closing the door behind us and burying my hurt inside of her. One last time won't hurt.
