Chapter 18

"Delivery for Miss Montgomery," Henry says knocking on my bedroom door.

I'm hoping around the room with one leg in my pants as I open the door to my room. I'm not embarrassed because it's just Henry. He hands me a folded up piece of paper and I add it to the box on my desk. It's been two weeks since the boyband night, and I've received a letter every day that he and Henry have worked together.

"Does he ever give up?" I ask.

"You wanted him to fall for you and well I think you've accomplished that, and you may have just broken his heart," he says.

"Yes, but you said he's been dancing with random girls on the nights he hasn't been working. Or coming in high with a girl on his tail. He hasn't learned shit," I tell him.

"Have you even read any of the letters?" he asks.

"Nope and I don't plan it," I say buttoning my jeans.

"You don't have to keep giving them to me you know, you can just toss them when he's not looking," I say grabbing a sweater and my bag.

"Then I'd feel guilty," he says.

"You never feel guilty about anything," I remind him.

"True, but I'm tired of looking at his sad eyes. I don't think the dude's slept in week," he says.

"Probably just high as a kite," I say pushing past him.

I grab my boots next to the door and start putting them on my feet.

"I miss seeing your face at the club," he says.

"I miss yours too baby doll, but I'm not really in the mood to see his," I say.

"Just think about it, okay? Rock night is coming up and wouldn't want you to miss out on that." he says.

"Thinking about it...." I say strolling out the door.

As I walk up to the music store I see Charlene. She looks like she's sneaking in from being out all night. I haven't seen her much since that night and I'm pretty sure she's been sneaking out to see him again.

"Hey Char," I say.

"Faith," she says.

I grab her arm to stop her from going in to the store.

"Hey, you okay?" I question.

Her makeup is smeared on her face, and her eyes are a bit bloodshot. She had to have been with Jace. She was so different before she left for Washington, it definitely changed her. This isn't the Charlene I once knew and it's all that assholes fault.

"Why do you care?" she asks.

"Because I do. Look are you still mad at me for talking to Jace?" I ask. "I honestly didn't even know..."

"No, I'm not mad at you for that..."

"Are you still seeing him?" I ask.

Daggers shoot from her eyes. Well that answers that, I guess their fight didn't deter her one bit.

"Charlene, I'm honestly worried about you. You look like shit," I tell her.

She sighs and I can see her eyes welling up with tears. I hate seeing her like this so I grab a hold of her and pull her into my arms. She sobs like she did when she first came home. She was doing so well too. He's hurting her so bad and I'm getting the urge again to mess with him, I don't think he's hurting enough.

"I'm here for you Char. I love you, and I hate that that bastard is hurting you," I tell her.

"It's my fault, I'm throwing myself at him and he keeps telling me that he's seeing someone else," she sobs. "He never cared before," she says.

"So you knew he was with other girls and you?"

She nods and wipes her tears. "We never meant to get serious, or at least he never meant to. I just thought he actually might have loved me," she says.

"Char guys like that are not worth your tears. You need to find a guy like Henry," I tell her.

"Too bad that sexy bastard is taken," she admits.

I laugh, "You like Henry?"

"Who doesn't, I mean look at him," she says.

"He's my best friend I don't really see him like that, but okay," I laugh.

"You're missing out," she says with a slight laugh.

"Nicole's a lucky girl," I say.

She nods in agreement.

"Are you working?" I ask.

"Unfortunately, god I feel so awful," she says.

"Do you want me to cover your shift?" I ask.

"My dad would kill me if I skip, damn I need a real job," she says.

"I don't think a real job would let you stroll in whenever you want," I tell her.

"True," she answers.

"You ready?" I ask.

She nods and wipes a stray tear.

It's been a long day and I'm so ready to go home. Charlene wasn't really pulling her weight so my Uncle sent her home, or to Jace wherever she decided to go. The door chimes and I look up to tell the customer we have only five minutes till closing, but stop when my eyes land on the customer that has just walked in.

"Mom?" I question.

My mom Katherine Montgomery; not Kate, not Kathy ... Kathleen. You call her anything else and be prepared to have your head ripped from your body. Behind her the door opens and in strolls my father, Gerald Montgomery; not Gerri, not Ger ... Gerald. He comes waltzing in with his nose in the air and a disgusted look on his face.

"Ger," I hear Aunt Marjorie say from behind me.

Oh no hold onto your hat folks get ready for it.

"Marjorie," he says clearly annoyed.

"We've come to have a word with our daughter," he says.

I look back at her looking for some kind of help, but she just shrugs. Thanks Aunt Marjorie that's your brother the least you could do is help me out. Mom looks me over and as usual I can see her judging silently in her head.

"Got enough metal in your body Amelia Faith," she says and I cringe at her use of my full name.

I was the rebellious child and refused to go by my first name, I hated it. My mom will always use my first name. Aunt Marjorie locks the door and puts up the closed sign. She gives a half smile to my parents and then starts the closing duties.

"What do you want mother?" I question.

"Your sister has a thing coming up, she's in a very famous ballet and we have an extra ticket for you," she says pulling it out of her purse.

I look at her like she's gone mad, the last time I spoke to them was two weeks after the incident at the club. She called to tell me to come home because the city was too dangerous. She has always hated my choices, but I don't care. She's holding out the ticket at me, and I cross my arms at my chest.

"That's why you're here?" I ask.

"We were at a show and thought we'd stop in to give you the ticket," she says.

I look at the date and notice it's the same as the court date.

"I'm busy that day," I sigh.

"Busy? What working? I'm sure your Aunt will give you..."

"Court date..."

"What did you do now Amelia," she says. I shudder at the name.

"I didn't do anything, for your information the man who went after me decided that the restraining order wasn't enough to keep him away," I tell her.

"This is why you should just come back to Long Island," she says.

"And do what? Take out all of my piercings, cover my tats, and go to the country club with you and dad every day?" I ask.

"Ameilia..."

"Oh god I hate that name," I say rolling my eyes. "Thank you for the invite, but it's not like she would care if I were there anyway we haven't talked in years," I say.

"Fine I guess if your other plans are so important..."

"Important?" I raise my voice. "Important?" I scream again. "I'm pretty sure that finding out the fate of some guy who's been stalking me is more important than my sisters stupid ballet," I say. "You know what I'm done, Aunt Marjorie can I just..."

"Yes sweetie," she says.

Without another word I go into the backroom and inform Uncle James that his favorite in-laws are here, and then leave. My mom is talking in hushed tones with my father when I walk out.

"Amelia..." she starts, but I don't even listen I head right out the door with my middle finger in the air.
