Episode 48

"You think you've won Free? I can just order Brown Eye to corrupt those who are left." And with that the screen went dark leaving Valt and Free to their battle but Free knew despite the TV being off that Theodore was still watching somewhere.

Turning to Brown Eye, Free held out his launcher towards Brown Eye while he did the same. The room was dead silent with the only noise with them both counting down.

"3...2...1...Let it Rip!"

Launching, Valtryek sped around the stadium at incredible speed while Fafnir took the center.

Free was surprised at how quiet Brown Eye was, during normal battles Valt was never this focused or this powerful. The way he could tap into it so easily it was like he was a different person and in a twisted way he was too for Free but this version of Valt was in Theodore's image.

Valtryek sped up slamming into Fafnir unleashing a powerful attack draining Valtryek's power but with each strong attack Valtryek was gaining more and more power while Fafnir seemed to be the same.

It was strange that Valtryek, normally Valt would've unleashed a barrage of attacks but instead this version of Valt seemed to be focused on one attack.

Absorbing enough power, Fafnir started glowing golden and raced around the stadium but Valtryek was faster, knocking it opposite of the stadium. Slamming into the wall, Fafnir went back into the center racing towards Valtryek but before they collided Brown Eye called upon his power creating a corrupted purple aura around himself and his bey.

"Venging Strike Launch."

They collided in the center and a burst of power erupted from the stadium knocking them both backwards from the sheer power of the wind. Electricity arched and sparked causing Free to cover his eyes while Brown Eye stood holding his ground watching through the explosion of the power.

Finally the beys couldn't take it anymore causing them both to go flying out of the stadium the room quieted as Valtryek landed on the floor but a second later Fafnir bursted into pieces.

Free said nothing, picking up the pieces and putting his bey back together.

But before the second battle could begin Free noticed something with Brown Eye, he seemed to be struggling despite the fact that he almost beat Free but something was off, the way he was gritting his teeth and his power was flickering something was up but before Free could investigate Brown Eye held up his launcher silencing Free's thoughts.

"3...2...1...Let it Rip." Unlike the last battle Fafnir was starting out speeding around the stadium like Valtryek on the other side. But Valtryek was too fast and easily caught up, knocking Fafnir into the wall again and again. Valtryek did this easily, lapping Fafnir and each time Fafnir recovered not as quickly and a little closer to the edge.

The longer he watched the more he put together what was happening. What Valtryek was doing wasn't just trying to make Fafnir go out of the stadium no, this was the opposite of Dread Hades circle: Dread Gravity except Fafnir was on the outside instead of the inside.

Colliding into Valtryek Fafnir was able to get out but was sent into the center where Valtryek circled it not as fast but almost like a predator circling its prey.

But like before the glow around Valtryek started to waver along with Brown Eyes power causing Valtryek to stumble and move unpredictably around the stadium. The dark purple power took over again and Valtryek straightened, speeding towards Fafnir.

Free narrowed his eyes realizing why Valt was battling like this instead of his usual style, the quietness, the attacks everything was centered around Phi or rather Phi and Hyde. Phi battled quietly not Valt and Valt didn't focus his energy all into a single point. Phoenix did that through Phoenix Break.

What Theodore was teaching him was what Phi had taught him and now he was passing it down to Valt which explained why he had Phi's power. It wasn't just corrupted resonance, it was the power itself influencing Valt which was Valtryek had gone berserk earlier coupled with Theodore's knowledge from what Phi taught him. No, Thedoore wanted Valt to be his next Phi and now by using this variation of Phoenix Break he was going to try and break Fafnir.

Free narrowed his eyes and summoned up his own power, a golden aura surrounded himself and Valtryek as they braced for impact.

A blast of purple and golden energy spiraled into the room and for a second Free forgot where they were dazzling colors filled the room until it died down into the form of pure resonance lighting up the stadium but then the purple slowly took over causing Free to cover his eyes.

Fafnir flew out of the stadium bursting but over the sound nobody noticed the crack in the energy layer.

The TV turned back on and Free knew what his fate was going to be but before Brown Eye could corrupt him the door burst open with Drum, Delta, and Lui.

"Valt? What did they do to you?" Drum asked quietly.

"There's no time for that, we need to leave now!"

But before Free left he took one last glance at Valt expecting him to use his power on him or corrupt him but instead he did nothing letting them leave.

Before Free could think it over doors started shutting all of them prompting the group to move faster reaching the basement they managed to reach the machine only to find Theodore waiting for them blocking their exit.

He smiled wickedly as Brown Eye stood next to him.

All hope of escaping was lost as Theodore ordered Brown Eye to capture them but to the group's surprise Brown Eye held out his hand paralyzing him.

Brown Eye moved aside and the door opened.

"Leave."

Without any hesitation the group sprinted towards the exit only to slow down when nearing Theodore and Brown Eye.

"Why?" Lui asked, looking straight at Brown Eye.

"It isn't any fun to break an opponent when you're forced to."

Lui for once looked surprised at this response but kept moving.

"You've all think you've won! You will all be corrupted, I thought I could trust you Brown Eye but even you will be punished. As was Phi when he betrayed me after the tournament last year."

"But I thought Phi was gone after the tournament, I thought he was in that resonance prison." Delta said stopping between Brown Eye and Valt.

Free stopped on the staircase and so did Lui who was below him even Drum stopped hugging Brown Eye.

"Phi isn't locked up somewhere else no, no, no, no that was all an illusion, there is no resonance force or prison. I made it all up, the prison, the force."

"I simply killed Phi."

The atmosphere quieted in that second and the colored drained from everyone's faces including Brown Eyes.

But with everyone distracted Theodore broke free of Brown Eyes' grasp.

"And you, I thought I could trust you too Delta but it seemed you're too good at playing both sides."

Theodore tried to grab the closest nearby blader which was Delta but at the last second Drum stepped in front of him causing Brown Eye to lose his balance along with Theodore. As they all fell, time slowed down as Delta watched them all fall over the edge into the darkness.

But the whole time Delta eye's never left Drum's as he watched his friend fall both into the shadows and into Theodore's clutches along with Brown Eye.

Theodores laughter haunted the place and for a while nobody said anything to Delta who was still on the edge silently crying.
