Episode 21
"Let the trial begin."
Fubuki nodded absently lost in his own thoughts, Sasha's eyes were fierce and unforgiving. Aiger and Rantaro just looked mad like either one of them wanted to hit something. Free seemed dead, no emotion at all and Shu was angry and distraught. The twins were in the crowd watching. While Drum was quietly watching from the sidelines.
Delta stood at the front of the gym with everyone in BC Sol watching him.
"Everything's packed up." Kris said, whispering to Shu as she entered the gym.
"Good."
Now all that was standing between Shu and Valt was Delta.
That and the Snake Pit and they hadn't even left or knew that Valt was there or not.
"Our interrogation is simple. We have prepared a list of questions and each member of our court or jury will ask a question."
Everyone standing on the side stood up holding a single piece of paper with ripped edges.
The night before, Fubuki, Shu, Rantaro, Drum, Free, Sasha, and Drum had put together a list of questions as a group for Delta.
"Sasha, you have the first question."
Standing up Sasha crumpled up her piece of paper angry.
"Which side are you really on?"
Delta paused at the sight of Sasha's anger, he didn't even know her and yet she seemed so crossed.
"I'm on your side now." He said simply.
Sasha clenched her teeth but didn't say a word but Delta could tell she didn't believe him.
She wanted to ask why but someone else already had that question and the majority had agreed to start with easy questions.
For Sasha she didn't care about the interrogation she was just mad that Delta was on Theodore's side. Even though he claimed to be on their side she still didn't believe him.
Next up, Free stood with an emotionless expression.
"Why did you join with Theodore?"
"He came to me a long time ago after Phi, he told me he sensed a great power in me and he said he could make me stronger. In exchange for my loyalty Theodore offered more power but over time I realized that was something I didn't want anymore. His way with power it's not natural...all he does is just take until there's nothing left."
The room had quieted down at the mention of Theodore.
Next, Fubuki stood up with one of the most important questions the group had to offer.
"What is Theodore planning?"
Delta looked straight at Fubuki with a serious expression.
"He wants to finish what Phi started by controlling the blading world including it's bladers which is why he needs the mask. Theodore may be able to copy others powers but he wants to control the power by controlling the bladers and their power he'll be able to control society. He'll truly have all the power."
"Then why does he even need the mask?" Shu asked
"Theodore has to have the mask in order to make an army without it he can only control one blader. Which is why he wants certain bladers because of their powers. It's all in the technology, the reason why you weren't able to break free was because of the mask. It wasn't just something to hide behind, it was controlling you. It made you yearn for it and once you were too far gone you didn't need it anymore."
"But why does he need Valt?" Rantaro asked once Delta was done.
"I don't know." Delta said simply.
"But why are you helping us now?" Kris asked, stepping in.
"Because Theodore has gone too far and he needs to be taken down. He's slowly going mad, seeing things that aren't there. It's almost like he's Phi the way he acts..."
Finally Drum stepped up to Delta and out of everyone Drums expression was unreadable.
Clenching his piece of paper Drum hesitated and instead asked: "Are you sorry for what you've done?"
For a while nobody said nothing, not even Delta himself. Out of all the questions this one had caught him off guard.
For everyone at BC Sol Drum was the one who was closest to Delta, always trying to hug him or just talk. And each time Delta would push him away wanting to be left alone.
But now, Delta could tell that Drum out of everyone still trusted him even though Theodore had used him.
"Yes. I am sorry, which is why I'm helping you guys now, it's the least I can do."
And with that everyone who asked a question huddled up in a circle.
"I think we should trust him," Fubuki started."He seems to be sorry and he knows a lot about Theodore, maybe he can help us."
"True, Sasha, did Norman ever tell you what the location on the map is?"
"Yes it's a Snake Pit, if we go there then we run the risk of walking right into a trap. But I disagree with Fubuki. We also run the risk of trusting him."
"Yeah! Besides, he doesn't know everything about Theodore!" Rantaro spoke up.
The group or huddle broke out into arguing.
"Enough. All those in favor of letting Delta come with us?"
Drum, Kris, and Fubuki raised their hands.
"And those who don't?"
Rantaro, Shu, and Sasha raised their hands.
"It's a tie,"
"Wait, Free hasn't voted."
Everyone turned to Free.
"I don't really care what we do with him as long as we leave soon." He said walking away.
"Then what about Aiger? He didn't ask a question." Rantaro added.
"I do have a question."
Walking through the group Aiger stopped in front of Delta holding out his bey.
His resonance flared around him and Achilles could barely be seen behind him.
"We'll settle this with a battle, you you and me."
Delta narrowed his eyes, Theodore had told him all about Aiger and how he once fell victim to the dark power Phi had planted in him.
Back then Aiger and Fubuki were Phi's first experiments or test subjects for his power but now Delta could tell Aiger was different now. But like all bladers light and darkness never truly went away even in bladers like Aiger or Shu.
"I accept."
Delta's resonance flared up causing Sasha and Fubuki to back away.
But Aiger held his ground wearing a smile holding out his launcher.
"3...2...1..."
"Let it rip!"
The second both beys took off they collided in the center sending off sparks and light in every direction.
The room held its breath until both beys were pushed to opposite ends from the explosion of power.
Recovering, Devolos came with a mirage of attacks for Achilles.
Back then when he was still working for Theodore, Devolos had often demanded that the opponents he fought would satisfy Devolos craving for beys light.
But the truth was one could not exist without the other. They relied on each other and needed each other. It was balanced and it always has been.
And for a while Theodore had suspected Delta had the same power as Phi. Which was why Theodore had taught him all about corrupting his opponent from the inside out. Turning them into his own puppet.
But consuming other beys light wasn't his power, no doing that required survival that had barely kept afloat back when Theodore still had a grip over him.
"Devolos, now!"
"What?"
Glowing Devolos entered a Golden state shimmering towards Achilles.
"But I thought you were on Theodore's side! I thought you were the bad guy!" Sasha said.
"Achilles!"
On the opposite side of the stadium Achilles glowed Golden heading towards Devolos.
Both of them yelling, hair or eye glowing red, and shimmering Golden power both beys collided.
For Delta he wasn't scared that he would lose the battle or be kicked out of BC Sol because deep down he was actually more scared that Theodore would drag him back into the darkness.
At the point of collision a burst of energy rose out of the stadium and exploded causing everyone around the battle to fall or be pushed back. Both Delta and Aiger stood watching the energy explode and come out of the stadium.
Finally the energy dimmed and through the fog both beys were near the center lying still. The stadium however was beyond repair with cracks running up the sides and center.
Delta hunched over heavily breathing, his forehead drenched in sweat. Meanwhile Aiger's hair was still standing strong but he too was exhausted.
"It's a tie."
All of a sudden Aiger started laughing.
"You're quite the blader, Delta. I think we could use someone like you on a team like this."
"Yeah but can we really trust him?" Shu asked.
Aiger paused considering this.
"I'm cool with him joining, it'll give me plenty of time to have a rematch but we won't know for sure until he's fighting with us."
Looking back down at Delta he smiled but Delta could tell it wasn't just a smile, it was a smile of respect.
